I work with Web sites, and I just got a travel site that's offering a tour of Disneyland. They say "Zoom through the future on Rocket Rods," so I was wondering how old this copy is! Did Indy come in after RR was closed? They mention Indy and Toontown as well.

Laughing Place sez:

Note: Closed permanently in April 2001

Indy opened in 1995, if I recall correctly.

As I remember, Rocket Rods opened May, 1998 and closed in the Fall of 2000.

It was supposed to reopen in "Spring, 2001", and there were several signs around Tomorrowland with that reopening date on them. The Rocket Rods had closed twice before for lengthy repairs, so people had a bit of hope that "Spring, 2001" would actually see a version of Rocket Rods that could work long term. But when the spring rolled around, rumors started circulating that Rocket Rods had been axed permanently. In April, 2001 the Resort offered a brief and meek press announcement that Rocket Rods would not be reopening in "April, 2001" and that the ride had been closed for good and would never operate in Disneyland again.

"April, 2001" was just the final, official date when Disney confessed that it wasn't going to reopen the ride.

Indy opened in March, 1995. Toontown opened in January, 1993.
