i allways just assumed that the new "NEMO" ride would just basicly be a Submarine Voyage 1.2 with Nemo , Marlon , Dory , some sharks etc throughout. Then i got thinking " wow they could to this really cool" here is my vision( and i dont even know if it is technologicaly able to be done) instead of looking through the glass porthole you look through a transperent "screen" like a hi-def tv screen, you would still see the lagoon and fishy inhabitants , but on the screen would be Nemo , he would introduce him self to you , and while he is technicly on the screen , he would appear to be swimming in ( and interacting with ) the lagoon , you see what i'm trying to describe?? anyway... i hope its just not more of the same

That would be really cool! Like you first mentioned, though, I do wonder if it will just be the old ride with new theming. Can't wait to see!

I think it's going to be the old ride with new theming because they would have dug up everything from the original by now.

VERY cool idea! You should be an imagineer!

I have a feeling in will not be just the old ride with new theming, but will incorporate something new. If it is just a rehash of the old ride, why would they have needed that big box that they put out to test some new possible show elements. I mean, they already know how to do all of the underwater AA stuff. I have a feeling they were testing something a little more than plastic aa figures under water.

Two mature products exist that would be able to accomplish this. First, projection sources could project images onto glass that you could still see through. This would be tough because of space constraits. Even better are TOLEDs. http://www.universaldisplay.com/toled.htm How ironic that their example includes a picture of a fish! Same with the projection company I was looking at. And with the projection company, it even kinda looks like Nemo. http://www.holopro.com/

WOW thank you... the only downfall is that it seems like for the affect to work ( nemo to talk to eveyone in the sub ) you would have to wear headphones... no matter , thanks for the nice words

Maybe they were testing a new kind of cardboard that works underwater so they can make an attraction every bit as good as Pooh ;)

why does everyone hate the pooh ride?

I figure they'll make it JUST like the old ride, only the Sub Lagoon will become the new home of a small, REAL clownfish, and each guest will be invited to sit through the old ride, and see if they indeed can find Nemo.

for me, i am a pooh fan but the ride is worse than snow white or toad or pinocchio. it loads slower, the story is a mish-mash thrown together and i would have expected more with the ability to use new technologies. if they had put this ride in fantasyland, it could have been viewed as a homage to the old rides. it should have been a lot better when put in the same location as slash.

It is the worst ride at the resort. And to add insult to injury it replaced a legendary attraction called the Country Bears. It also is probably one of the cheapest dark rides I have ever seen with all the 2d sets unlike Tokyo's version which does not even have a track, it is guided wirelessly and the vehicles cross eachother with the music and they have the ability to bounce. Getting back on topic the Submarine Voyage will be mostly left the same due to the fact they cannot modify the subs too much or they will have to be accomodating to the handicaps which requires new standards.

Because I miss Big Al and 3 dimensional Animontronics and can see cardboard paintings of the 100 acre wood at my local library :)

I would say it might be the worste at DL but not at the resort. DCA has some rides in Route 66 that I think need to go.

And back on topic of the subs: here is an article from Jim Hill. If it turns out like this I will be very pleased.

why does everyone hate the pooh ride?

First, I hate most dark rides, and Disneyland already has way too many of them. They are exceptionally cheap looking because they use painted stage flats, and the paint really never fluoresces a true color under the ultraviolet light. Pooh additionally suffers from overly static figures that are anything but convincing.

Second, the choice of location is totally wrong. Winnie the Pooh; Tigger; Eeyore; and, the rest are not "critters" in a Frontierland/Splash Mountain sense; they are "toys" that come alive in the imagination of Christopher Robin who is very British and envisions the Hundred-Acre Woods as something much more akin to an English countryside. These facts sound like prime Fantasyland material. Both Critter Country and New Orleans Square are parts of Frontierland.

Third, "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" is a film that is driven by character and not by physical action, so the choice of creating a ride-through Attraction is puzzling. The plots of the A. A. Milne stories have always been about relationships, and ride-through vehicles do not do a good job of developing character or portraying those relationships.

Fourth, people loved Country Bear Playhouse, and the Attraction was quite popular. Over the last ten years, it seems like every change that was made to Disneyland was for the worse. People like changes when something better comes along, but, repeatedly, Disneyland has been bastardized and torn asunder. The Critter Country area especially needed Country Bear Playhouse because the area is a dead-end, and Guests who get FastPass tickets for Splash Mountain need a high-capacity Attraction that is long in duration to occupy their time upon reaching that section of The Magic Kingdom.

Fifth, the cheapness is accentuated by the fact that the shops in the area were transformed at great expense to nothing but Pooh in a blatant attempt to move more merchandise. This commercialism is unbelievably crass. The purpose of the Attraction is nothing more than to deliver Guests to a shop, and that fact is obvious and offensive to many people.

wel i'm just going to take a sec to defend the pooh ride , i think we have to remember that this ride was / is directed at kids , it reminds me of the first time i rode Mr Toad or Peter Pan , it suspends belief and takes you into the 100 acre wood , i personally think the effects are well done , the " rain " effect on the ceiling in the first room is super cool , disney doesnt " owe " me anything , if they do something i dont particularly like or enjoy , i simply dont ride that ride or see that attraction , as long as its making someone happy then who am i to say " OH YOU MADE THAT ALL WRONG!! ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!!" , plus i never liked the CountryBearJamboree , i remember seeing it every year growing up and all i wanted to do was leave to fantasy land and ride a dark ride

If it is just a rehash of the old ride, why would they have needed that big box that they put out to test some new possible show elements.

That's the really intriguing thing about it.

I heard somewhere that the imagineers had come up with a way to isolate elements of the show from the ravages of highly-chlorinated water (thus the "Big Box"), while still providing an illusion that they were existing in their aquatic surroundings.

That sounds cool, but how would that actually work? I mean, wouldn't these "Boxes" stand out like a sore thumb?

I have heard the glass boxes will only be in the cavern so they wont be standing out in the lagoon. And because of this new method to keep things dry they can become more detailed and impressive.
