Hi all! Could some of you give some suggestions for things to do other than the theme parks. My DH and I are going to DL June 20-26 but I am attending a seminar at the PPH on the 21st and 22nd and he will be on his own both days. We are driving down so he has a car. Just some fun things to do while I am stuck in an accounting seminar. Also, where is the Disney outlet store? I want to check it out while we are there. If someone could give me the "official" name of it I can get the phone number and call for store hours and directions or if you know the number and can give me the directions, that would be great. We are staying on Katella Ave about a block from DL. Thanks for your help.

If you have a car, the options are virtually endless, with LA, Hollywood, the beach.... all practically next door.

Tell him to head over to Long Beach and Tour the Queen Mary. I was dragged over there the first time, as I wasn't interested in seeing it and it was a very good tirp. I have teken many people over and they have all enjoyed it.

There is Knotts, a very nice movie Theatre in DD, Hollywood, Universal Studios, countless things to do and see in LA, Balboa Island/Newport, any beach, etc. Lots of things to do there.. just wish I had as many options in Portland..... =(

Okay GO to Harbor blvd. And go north! SO if you are at disneyland Kattella is south of DL and Ball is north. GO through Down town Anaheim. You will Cross over the 91 freeway. After crossingover the freeway you will start seeing shopping strips on both sides of the freeway. I believe the road is Orangethroup (sP) turn right. If you pass a costco you went too far.

You will see the outlet store on the right at the end of the strip mall it is behind a fitness gym. Do not go past Lemon st. Again you will have gone too far. Oh and After the outlet mall is a car hop Sonic BUrgers. They have good food. It is across the street on lemon.

If you are interested in things to do in the immediate vicinity, Old Towne Orange; The Block, at Orange; and, the Crystal Cathedral are within three miles of Disneyland.

Just travel east on Katella Avenue to State College Boulevard. Make a right. When you cross Chapman Avenue, The Block and the Crystal Cathedral are to your right, and, if you make a left on Chapman, you will be taken directly into Old Towne Orange.

If you travel north on Harbor Boulevard, you will leave the resort district of Anaheim and enter its business district where you can find the Frank Gehry-designed DisneyICE ice rink, as well as the Anaheim Museum. There is also a railroad museum a mile or so farther in Fullerton.

You all are awesome. I know I will be visiting the Disney Character Outlet and probably Old Towne Orange cuz I wanted to see that the last time we went down in August. Thank you all so much for helping out. This site rocks cuz everyone is so nice to each other. If everyone were a Disney addict wouldn't the world be a nicer place to visit.

Thanks again for all your help

Are there other things to do in Anaheim besides DL? Hmmm, I can't imagine what they could be!

This is a funny thread! When I saw the title, my first thought was "nope! there's nothing else in Anaheim to do!" Then I figured I should give it a chance, so I didn't reply yet...(I grew up in anaheim - there's nothing to do there...)

Then...everyone started replying and none of the suggestions are in Anaheim!!! Amazing how some things never change!

For the record...all the suggestions are great. I second the suggestions on the Orange circle for antiques, the beach, queen mary, knott's berry farm, wax museum, the water park by knott's, and so much more...it's just not in Anaheim :p

The Queen Mary is great. I enjoy "exploring"...which means trying every door and going in every nook and cranny. I have only been caught twice...once they asked what I was doing nd I said exploring ...they said continue on,.,,the other time I was escorted out of the area. On my last trip I found the halloween mazes down in the old boiler rooms and down behind where the second class pool use to be. Those were freaking walking through alone at night. Oh, and bring a flashlight....

(yes, my other passion besides DL is the Queen Mary...:))

Lots of things to do there.. just wish I had as many options in Portland..... =(

Really? I wish I had the vibrant urban environment you have in Portland; The Pearl District. NW Portland. Downtown. Old Town/Saturday Market. Rose Quarter. Hawthorne District. Washington Park. Free streetcars and light rail trains in the urban core. Powell's Bookstore. Downtown arts and nonstop shopping. Bluehour and some other fabulous restaurants and bars. Plus the mountains, the rivers, the ocean, the forests, the beach towns, the Gorge, and all of the other scenic wonders that are 90 minutes drive from Portland proper. I don't think you are appreciating what a fabulous American city Portland is. Sure the weather gets grey and drizzly in winter, but have you ever dealt with -20 degree snowstorms in Boston or Chicago? I'd take 50 degrees and drizzle in January any day.

As far as Anaheim goes; day trips are to be found by going down the coast from Newport to Laguna and Dana Point. Angels baseball is about a mile away. Long Beach offers the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. Los Angeles has endless stuff, but traffic up and down the Santa Ana Freeway is a nightmare 18 hours out of the day.

Try checking out a Fodor's or any Disneyland travel guide at Barnes & Noble for more day trip ideas.

And I just got back from dinner tonight on the patio of Rutabegorz in the Orange Circle. I highly recommend it!

If he's got a bike, he could ride with the Orange County Wheelmen (http://www.ocw.org/). I did that on one trip and a great time.

speaking of bikes...I just found out my new job has a bike club. they go out riding once a month...I thought of you when they mentioned the club

if you want a day trip you can always catch the ferry to catalina island. IMO it's just a tourist trap, but it is pretty there and driving the golf cart around the island was fun.:)

Anaheim does have its world-class convention center, as well as the stadium and the arena with the respective Major League Baseball and National Hockey League teams. There is also The Grove of Anaheim, which hosts live entertainment.

It's just the nature of many cities in southern California to have indistinct borders and close proximity to each other. Even though the Crystal Cathedral and The Block are just a few feet from each other, they, themselves, are located in two different cities, neither of which is Anaheim.

GardenWalk was supposed to have opened across the street from Disneyland a couple of years ago, but I am not sure that project will ever be completed. (Does anyone happen to know its status?)

Someone mentioned MainPlace Santa Ana; that city also has the Bowers Museum. A little farther down the 5 is Irvine Spectrum as well as The Irvine Museum. South Coast Plaza is close, as is the Orange County Performing Arts Center. And, in a couple of months, Laguna will present the terrific Pageant of the Masters.

Yorba Linda does have the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, but, unless you are a staunch Nixon-supporter, most of that attraction will leave you frustrated and angry. The gardens and reflecting pool are nice, though.
