QuikQuote: California's Supreme Court on Thursday heard arguments on whether Disney and other theme- park companies should be held to the same heightened safety standards as train and bus operators. The case stems from the death of a 23-year-old woman after riding on the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland in Anaheim.
California is home to some of the nation's most visited amusement parks including Universal Studios Hollywood and Disney's California Adventure and Disneyland. If Disney loses, lawyers for injured riders may have an easier time getting their cases before a jury or negotiating settlements.

Train and Bus operators? You mean Diz can lose the seatbelts and body restraints? Cool!

i think that might be referring to someone who died when the ride first opened due to a brain aneurysm presumably caused by how rough the ride used to be, if i'm not mistaken.

She must have died recently because she had been quoted when the first major accident hit (columbia) about other accidents at the park. She was living with a shunt in her brain to provide drainage - if I remember correctly.

The case involves a claim filed by the estate of Cristina Moreno, a tourist from Spain who visited Disneyland in Anaheim on her honeymoon in 2000.

Her family says she suffered a brain hemorrhage after riding the Indiana Jones Adventure, which simulates an off-road jeep ride. She died a few months later.
so it's not all that recent, but evidently the ride had been operating for years before. interesting. i know the ride originally was extremely rough, but i thought it was quickly toned down.

The 23-yo woman died in Sept. 2000. From Theme Park Insider (http://www.themeparkinsider.com)
A 23-year-old Spanish woman felt like her "head was rolling around" after riding. She passed out a short time later, never regained consciousness, and died on Sept. 1, 2000. She had a preexisting brain aneurysm, and her family is suing Disney, claiming the ride triggered her collapse and death.

Try www.bugmenot.com to get passwords for any site you are too lazy to register for. You can plug in the url for most newspapers and get a userid and password. There's even a Firefox plugin that queries the bugmenot database and automatically logs you in if there is a password available.

i've noticed google news sometimes lets you get into articles that require accounts too.

edit: just installed and tried the firefox plugin on above site. worked like a charm!
