We are arriving quite early in the day on a Thursday..probably around noon at the hotel if all goes well. We won't be going to DL till Friday. Other than getting settled and getting some food are there any suggestions of things to see and do around Anaheim?? I dont' want anything too far or too "much" as we will all be very tired and will be in bed early.

Any good restaurants nearby....any local things to see....what about the ESPN zone?? Is that outside the park or not???

I have a 7 yr old and a 4 1/2 yr old.

Thanks...

Sonja :D

ESPNZone is in Downtown Disney as are other restaurants/venues such as House of Blues and Rainforest Cafe and shops like Lego (whatever it's called), World of Disney, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Club Libby Lu, an AMC movie theater and a few other more common stores/restaurants.

in the area is a Midieval Times restaurant, Knotts Berry Farm amusement park.

MousePlanet's Beyond the Berm (http://www.mouseplanet.com/beyond/), though it has gone some time without updates, gives a good overview of area attractions outside the Disneyland Resort.

Wow...I spent most of my life trying to escape life in and around Anaheim :p
There really isn't much to do...
I would suggest a visit to Rudebeqourz (sp) in Fullerton for a quirky, funky meal...a visit to Knotts, or the water park there, hang out at Newport Beach or even better, Balboa...Midieval Times...The wax museum (is it still there?)...an Angel's game (okay...not until April...)...shopping...

Crab Cooker, Newport Beach. always 1st choice away from DL

There's a fun 50's type diner out on the pier at Huntington Beach. Can't remember the name, but the prices are reasonable, great milk shakes, and it's a good place to walk out along the pier, smell the ocean, see the sights, etc., etc. :)

What would the closest mall be? The Block at Orange?

There is an arcade portion in the upstairs of the ESPNZone, but it's not really geared to younger kids.

I would suggest hitting the pool for a nice swim if the weather permits. Are you staying at one of the Disney hotels? If you are thinking about doing a character meal at Goofy's Kitchen, you might consider getting a Priority Seating for dinner that night, getting it done early in your trip and in a way that won't take away from your park time.

I would say the Closest Mall is the Block of Orange....

dlandnut is thinking about Ruby's on the pier.

Joe's Crab Shack is close on Harbor at Chapman. (Get a discount card at Rainforest Cafe before you go, it is good at Joe's!)

If you are looking for a good family meal at a good price, go to Knott's for the Chicken Dinner, no need to enter the park, they offer 3 hour free parking, and the restaurant is in their shopping area outside the park.

Small fun exhibits, Ripley's Believe it or Not and the Movieland Wax Museum are just north of Knott's on Beach, you can get a discounted ticket good for both places (they are in seperate buildings about 1 block apart). Better deal than the online coupon.

http://www.movielandwaxmuseum.com/

Medieval Times is also in the area (Basically acreoss the street from the Wax Museum), and you can find a $4 off coupon if you pick locations, then Buena Park, and then "coupons".

http://www.medievaltimes.com/

It is easy to get to Buena Park, if you have a rental car, you could take Ball or Katella west to Beach, and then go north. (easy directions) Or if you want to brave the freeways, 5 North to 91 west, first exit. If you want to use the carpool lanes, you can't get off at Beach, so take Knott's Avenue, make a left on La Palma, then a right for Knott's at Beach, or a left on Beach for Ripley's, Movieland and Medieval Times.

FYI, the old Wild West show building has a green tarped fence around it. So it is either going to change to the Pirate's theme... or they have closed for good (they did not operate in 2004). Only time will tell....

Rainforest Cafe owns Joe's Crab Shack?

That explains a hell of a lot.

Landry's Restaurants owns Rainforest Cafe'...

http://www.landrysrestaurants.com/home.htm

Yep, the same folks that owns the Chart House, and an Aquarium owns the Rainforest...

Plus they just signed a contract to buy the Golden Nugget Casino on the Strip in Vegas...

Heck, we will have a Hooter's Casino on one end, and a Rainforest Casino on the other...

FYI, your Rainforest Safari Club discount card is NOT good at all of Landry's restaurants...

Muer, Chart House, Vic & Anthony's, Pesce, Brenner's, Grotto and La Griglia Restaurants are not included in this program

For those of us who don't have one in our home town, the simple pleasure of an In-N-Out Burger can be a real treat!
