In preparation for our Disneyland trip in May, my seven year old keeps talking about collecting "pressed pennies".....we did a few at WDW, but never found a penny press book to put them in, or any indication of where we might find the press machines.

I know that there is one at the penny arcade on main street, and wondered if anyone could lead us in the direction of any more both at DL/CA/DD (DD means downtown disney-right?....it's been about 3 years since I've posted!)

Also, I found a penny press case on ebay, but do you think I would be safe to just wait until we got there to pick one up?

Thanks!
~Brigit

Stop by City Hall when you arrive and they'll give you an updated list of all the penny press machines in the resort. My husband keeps his (and the change to buy them) in an Altoids tin in his pocket. :)

The Penny cases are available all over the parks. In addition to penny presses there are also quarter and nickel ones. Hope you have lots of fun!

Most of the giftshops will have a press or two.

There is also a new dime press machine in the Gag Factory (Toontown). 75 cents plus the dime.

Hey MyKarla,

The last time we were there, early Feb, there were three new quarter presses for the haunted mansion. The machine was in the Nightmare Before Christmas shop near the POTC. They were really cool. They cost a buck a piece tho, but I thought they were worth it. I love the HM!!

One thing I noticed from doing a bunch of pressed pennies at WDW (used the altoid tin myself) was that they don't necessarily come out flat - they have a little bit of a curve to them from the curve of the die on the machine. Some came out flatter than others, but I wouldn't count on them being flat enough for a scrapbook!

Also, depending on how you feel about "silver" streaks, you'll might want to use pennies from before 1982. (That's where keeping a separate tin of pennies and quarters really comes in handy.)

There was an article on MousePlanet a while back about them here (http://www.mouseplanet.com/merchandise/aam030806lt.htm)

Hard to find and rare ones are great - for example people recently starting their collections don't have the smushed pennies from the Wonder of Life machines at WDW.

So, don't take a machine for granted! If it's there, smush away! You might regret not getting it later ;)

Thanks you guys, I will try all I can find. I loved the penny press in cale cod, but again it did not cost anything, you just put the penny in and it smashed it. No extra costs.
I am anxious to see what these come out to be!

That article was very helpful to me before our recent trip. I used one of the links: http://www.parkpennies.com/Disneylandpennypressmachines.htm to print up checklists of what we wanted to find and where they were located. Their lists are supposed to be more current than City Hall's. They also have a lot of tips on how to use the machines, care of pennies, etc.

I love pressed pennies! My friend sent me a few links to the machines, I will need to get them off my work machine and then will post them here.

Also you can get penny books at any coin shop. Or you can get plastic sleeves that hold the cardboard penny holder and then you can put those in binders.

Right now all of my pressed pennies are in a box :)

hey now! We love to collect the pennies everytime we go to the park.

Check out this site - prob the best site for DL pennies:
http://www.parkpennies.com

They have a checklist that is FAR better than the one you can get at main street. It is easier to read, way more up to date and is THE tool you will need if you want to find all of a character or something:
http://parkpennies.com/alllocations.htm

Also, I set up a site a few days ago, still in its infant stage. You can help it grow if you wish

I don't think you can but pre-pressed pennies at DL, but they are all over ebay! I have a friend that is a huge collector and they even have yahoo groups for this.

One of the sites I have you can type in a city that you will be going to and it will tell you what is offered in the area. Pretty fun to find the penny smashers, or hunt for them :)

If I was closer and could get off work-I'd be there in a second! Maybe one of the local MP'ers would be willing to help you out.
