I went to DLR this weekend, I stayed at the Tropicana thanks to help from mousepadders' reccomendations, it was nice, and I think it was indeed the same place I stayed many years ago. My only complaint was that the mattresses were plastic so they got a bit hot and were a bit squeaky, but at least they can be cleaned i guess.

I went to disneyland on saturday, we had a blast, it rained a bit but that kept the crowds down in the AM. We were supposed to celebrate a friend's birthday at carnation cafe but they neglected to tell them when they made priority seating reservations that if it rains, they close the cafe. We waited til about 2 for lunch for nothing! We ate at the bengal barbeque and I have to say I don't recommend it, it may be inexpensive, but as I found out later, the turkey leg cart in fantasyland near the petit chateu was much better and cheaper!

I rode the matterhorn for the first time in 15 years and I really enjoyed it! :)

I also saw fantasmic and I thought it was great! :)

We also went to disney's california adventure, we were exhausted from a long first day so we went around 11 and there were huge lines to get in, so we cruised around downtown disney. I got some charms and we headed into the park when the lines went down. I've never been to DCA but I have to say I loved soarin, it was so much fun :). I also really loved aladdin! The whole park seemed like MGM grand but with a weird carny atmosphere (I know it's supposed to be like a beach boardwalk but it still didn't seem disney). I felt that it wasn't very disney of a park, without the 75 mickeys all around, I could have been anywhere else. I suppose MGM grand is kind of like that, but that's probably my least favorite of all of the florida parks.

All in all, i really enjoyed the things I chose to do in DCA, but we were there for only about 4 hours and 1 hour was waiting for soarin and 1 hour was watching aladdin. I can't say i'd pay full price for it, but it was worth the checking out since we had the free second day from vons.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice for things to go to, I finally got to see the jewel of orleans, i never went in before b/c i thought it was a perfume store (b/c of the sign). It was cool to look at jewlery at disney, and i had a blast and the walk was easy from the hotel and we didn't have to wait for a shuttle!

thanks again, I really had a great and relaxing weekend!

When you say MGM Grand do you mean Disney MGM Studios in WDW? Because the MGM Grand is a casino in Las Vegas.

whoops, i did mean mgm studios, i'm not sure why i'd say mgm grand, i think i went there for a total of 15 minutes and got turned down for studio 54 b/c we didn't originally intend to go there and i wore sneakers. i must be tired from having too much fun :)

anyhoo, do people love the bengal bbq or were you all being funny? Maybe I just got something really bad there?

Glad you had a great trip. I like Bengal BBQ but I think whitewater snacks has it beat ;) . But it all depends on what you want at the time. When I ate at whitewater it seemed like the best meal....when I ate at Bengal it seemed like the best ;) . Again, glad you had a good time!!

My complaint of bengal barbeque was that my food was very dry, the tiger tail and the bengal beef and the something chicken, were all very dry, maybe i just got a bad batch, but i got that and my friends got food at that cafe next door they had clam chowder in a bread bowl and a big plate of bbq and they were all mming and yumming and i was sitting there with my sad, dry food, wishing that i had gotten what they had gotten. I should also preface it with the fact that they said 'we want bengal' and so i went in line and then they bailed, while i got my nice dry meat... but i made up for it later with a big yummy not dry turkey leg, so I'm sure i could have just gotten a bad batch.

but that didn't ruin the trip for me, i got lots of other yummy things like rainbow sherbet and turkey leg and then chicken fingers at dca :)

Yes, we all love Bengal. But to each his/her own. I don't get the whole churro thing. But I'm not a big sweets person.

I got the rainbow sherbet at the gibson girl parlor on mainstreet (I think it was called that, the one with the candy store next to it and the waffle cone presses, and a big glass elephant), it was good, i had a double scoop in a cone bowl and it was HUGE!

Sorry if I dissed anyone's favorite restaurant. This just means next time i'll get to try something different :)

my friends didn't want to leave, they told me they nearly bought the annual pass! :)

One of them is totally into the pins now though, it seems fun but I'm not a pin wearer in general, so I'm not sure what I'd do with them after I left disneyland.

Thanks jt. It never occured to me that they had Rainbow Sherbet. I always eat the Mickey shaped chocolate covered ice creams. That is so on my list of to-dos for this upcoming trip.

Sssh, don't tell anyone but last time I had Bengal, it was dry too. And I haven't eaten there since.
