View Full Version : Ryman Tree

irreparable harm

During my most recent trip to Disneyland, I took note that roses had replaced the small coniferous trees beside the castle moat. Does anyone know what became of the ‘Ryman Tree’? Perhaps the Horticulture Department replanted the little blue spruce elsewhere… I’d hate to think it ended up on the compost heap.

Which reminds me of another question.

Has anyone else here propagated Disneyland plants by stem cuttings? A surreptitious pruning, a dip in Rootone, and viola! A garden full of Disney-parented coleus, chrysanthemums, and dahlia.

Great question, irreparable harm! Any gardeners out there whose fingers itch with desire at the Disneyland Resort?

I've never heard of the Ryman Tree. What's the story behind that name?

It was a tree planted in honor of Herb Ryman when he died.

Herb Ryman was the first Disneyland architect, see:

The background behind the tree can be found about 2/3 of the way through the Sotto interview at:

As Herb predicted, the original tree died but was later replaced by the Horticulture Dept…
