Did anyone see the begining of the Rose Parade with Mickey Mouse and the Disneyland 50th tribute? It was so cute. They had a bunch of the Disneyland characters dancing, nice way to begin the parade I thought. :)

Yes, I saw it also. I think they should have played a short clip of when Walt Disney was Grand Marshall to go along with it.

Yup, caught the starting ceromony of the parade on the replay ;) I was kinda surprised to see a second Disney float just after the stat as well. They both looked really nice!

But ya - I WANT GOLD MOUSE EARS :p :p I assume they should be for sale with the rest of the 50th stuff??

I thought it was a nice opening for the parade. I though I misses it because I woke up at 10:00 but the Travel channel has been replaying it. :D

Nice float! I liked the band and dancers too. I thought I recognized some of them as performers / band members from Disneyland. Were those the trumpet players from the Christmas Fantasy Parade?

BTW - The TV commercial for the 50th that followed was pretty spiffy too. :)

Commercial-free KTLA showed the new commercial at 7:55 PST. I wasn't expecting it so I missed the first few seconds. But it was good!

Mickey and the dance number was the best part of the parade this year. I didn't notice any floats that had anything happening on them. No acrobats, no trampolines, etc. Seemed very quiet (except for the bands, of course). Does anyone else remember when there were tons of famous folks on the floats?

I was wondering if the dancers were Disneyland castmembers. How cool. If so, do you think they would have to try out or were they chosen?

I was wondering if any of that was a preview of the new parade for the 50th?

nope. not a parade of dreams preview- just a well-constructed special event.

and those herald trumpeters aren't the same guys who did ACF- but they are the same ones who performed on the roof of the train station for candlelight.

however, the camera angles were ATROCIOUS. there was so much more going on that you actually didn't get to see. very unfortunate. if you liked what you saw of the preshow, you would have loved to see it in person.

We got to see the float and how it is lowered to go under the light at the end of the Rose Parade Route. I took pictures but do not have the web space to place it for everyone to see. It was quite interesting to see how it "broke down" to fit under the light. All of the characters were taken off of the float just in front of us. It was cool!

yeah, I saw it. The float was nice, but the pre-show (disney song and dance) was a bit over the top and a bit to geared to marketing for my taste, but the rest of the parade was fun...:)

When the shot the confetti out of the castle and the smoke started drifting away I was thinking, "just like the real DL smoke and all."..LOL

Was there any indication that the castle float joined other parade floats this year on display in Pasadena, or possibly will be taken to the Park for display there instead?

I thought the Disneyland float and dance number was just fantastic! It reminded me of the "old days" of the 1980's and early 90's when Disneyland was always doing splashy, upbeat stuff like this. In the past few years they were so artsy-fartsy and almost cynical with their entertainment; Parade Of The Stars Volume I is exhibit A for that argument. But today's Rose Parade thing was just good 'ol American fun, and it worked beautifully. After all, Disneyland is the epitome of good 'ol American fun, and something we should all be very proud of as Americans.

A Walt Disney World message board I just checked out has a lot of East Coasters all talking about this float and the commercial. And the general consensus is that they now all want to make a trip out to Disneyland in '05 instead of or in addition to their usual WDW trip. To me that speaks volumes about how succesful this commercial campaign is going to be.... If you don't get to Disneyland for the Anniversary you will be missing out!

Bravo to Disneyland for putting on a great show for the Rose Parade, and bravo to the Marketing Department for finally breaking out of their "I'm too cool to be at Disneyland" funk they've been in the last five years.

jiminy, I'm not sure if the Dland float has left the parade viewing place yet. I can't seem to get any answer. My neighbors are in charge of pulling the floats from the "barns" to the route. They couldn't get an answer from the cast members that were going with the float.

I thought the float looked really good, and I loved the little performance before the parade. *Very happy* to see that they didn't destroy the song. I was a bit surprised that they brought out that many Disney characters for the show and parade, but it was very cool to see them all. I did notice that because of the camera angles, there was a lot going on that you couldn't see, but given how much was going on, I'm not sure they'd have been able to show everything unless they did it "24" style.

As for the float, I would have figured that if it was going to be at the resort like last year's, they'd have already announced that. The problem is there's really nowhere at the resort to put it. There's no open, out-of-the-way space at DL, some people will scream if they put it in DCA, and while the best place would be the esplanade, it would then be open to the non-paying public.

I liked the commercial ok, though I wasn't enamoured that it was obviously CGI.

Really looking forward to the 50th parade and fireworks and everything else!

Robert Niles of Theme Park Insider has a nice article about the parade, including photos...

Just got back from taking a trip over to see all of the floats on Sierra Madre Blvd. The castle float from Disneyland is still in the viewing section and it didn't look like they were going to take it anywhere tonight. So, I would think that they will be taking it away tomorrow night when the rest of the floats leave.

Here's a link to a NewsCom photo. Not that great, thanks to the watermark all over it...

I have heard of no plans to bring it to the DLR...

Also, you need to think about the cost..

First the permits and transporting the large float in the wee hours of the morning. That is not cheap, as it requires CHP escorts and multiple truck drivers.

Then to keep the float in good shape at DCA, they had a float crew working every day replacing flowers that were dying, etc... Plus they had the "crew" that was part of the float (aka entertainment folks).

That was a lot of man hours, and related costs for the promotion. Plus, based on what I saw and hears, it really didn't help to increase attendance at DCA.

My guess, DIsney decided it wasn't worth the cost, and that is why you haven't heard anything about the float coming to the resort...

One little tidbit of information I heard on the KTLA broadcast today was that Disney withdrew its float from judging competition because Marty Sklar is on the Tournament of Roses Judging committee and it would have been an obvious conflict of interest.

It was a nice float and I bet it could have won one of the awards.

I was happy to see the pre-show before the parade and thought it was really good. But, there were a few things I'll mention that I wasn't happy with. For one, the cameras that were taping the show did a horrible job with it, because there were hardly any close-ups of the dancers and other important things that were going on.

Secondly, it was way too short! I viedo taped the pre-shows for Disneyland's 35th & 40th that they had before the Rose Bowl Parade and they were so much better! Infact, the 35th pre-show was extremely long and very entertaining. And both had a lot of excellent close-ups of the dancers and things going on around them.

And lastly, I didn't like how the announcer started speaking to Mickey in the middle of the dance number/song! It slowed it down and wasn't really needed to get it's point across. Besides, I like that portion of the song and it felt like it was chopped up.

OK, that's enough ranting & raving, I'll behave! :D But over all, it was a beautifully choreographed musical number. And I have to agree with TP2000 and say how awesome it was to see a choreographed show that reflected the fun & innocence of how Disney once did their stage shows in the 80's and early 90's. Now all the stage shows (altho good) seem to be so Broadway and sometimes too theatrical.

I really enjoyed what the dancers were wearing, especially the girls! Because for those who remember back when Disneyland had a stage show called, *Disneyland Is Your Land* (in honor of it's 25th and 30th birthday), the dancers in that show had the same style of costumes in the beginning and ending numbers. The only difference in today's pre-show was that the colors were different, to reflect those of Disneyland's 50th. But the styles were the same! :D Let's hope Disney plans to do a special 50th anniversary stage show sometime during it's 18 month celebration!!

Anyway, the floats in the pre-show and the parade were absolutely beautiful and looked awesome!! Kudos to Disney for doing such a fine job!! They certainly did Disneyland proud, and what a way to kick off 2005.

Happy New Year~
Patrick :)
