Is recent federal law to allow off-duty officers to carry concealed wherever they go. Does anyone know how this law will be 'enforced' at Disneyland?

I'm also interested in how Disneyland can force federal officers to surrender their weapons at the gate?

Anyone with contacts in DL Security have any idea?

One solution would be to refuse admission.

My cousion is a deputy with the sheriff's dept, and he has never had a problem. He always has proper ID with him and they let him in.

Federal law trumps Disney security policy. Federal officers carrying concealed handguns would likely show a badge or ID to the security CM and that would be it. This is assuming the cursory bag check even finds it in the first place, which is doubtful.

I wonder if they ever shoot at the hippos?

Wouldn't he be holstering it, not keeping it in a bag?

I don't think I'd have a problem with it, but I'd like to have a separate process for those with guns. Names, IDs, fingerprints, etc. Something backstage.

My brother-in-law took a handgun to DL about 25 years ago. He has a permit, but they escorted him to some offices and checked his permit. They then told him that he could either leave, or they would hold his gun for him until he left the park. He chose the ladder as to not upset the family.

Disneyland sent out a letter to all California law enforcement agencies this year asking that law enforcement personel do not carrry weapons onto the Disneyland park grounds. If you bring your weapon you are asked to lock it up at the DTD Anaheim PD substation. Until this year, my husband always took a gun with him, his department's chief has asked that they respect Disney's wishes.

As far as the federal law, what it does is allow officers to carry weapons in every state of the union, previously they could only carry if there was a mutual aid agreement.

Statistically speaking, I wonder how many guests have died in the park from gunfire vs. ride related fatalities?

Perhaps Disneyland should check attractions at the gate.

You can put it in a gun locker at the security office only that person would have the key. Alot of off-duty officers do this some don't.

This service is also at the 3 hotels let the front desk know and you will be able to store it and get it anytime you wish. at the security office

You can tell the bag checker they will call for a maingate security to escort you backstage if you are a officer. Or just don't bring it :)

well, amyone could get a gun pass the bag check people. They hardly ever look under stuff and they have never asked me to unzip my jacket. My Father always brings his pocket knife in. The bag check area is just to make people feel safe. they are not safer...IMO.

You realize that it's as easy to bring a gun into Disneyland as walking around on the street with one, right? The bag check thing is a total and utter joke. They pull open your purse/backpack and look for anything suspicious on the top layer. If you somehow knew this in advance and put your bomb in the bottom of the bag or on your person, good luck! You just snuck an explosive into the park. Same goes for guns, knives, whatever.

My husband and I are both (out of California) police officers and were wondering about this as well. With the new Federal Law, we can carry our duty weapons throughout the country, not just our home state. But we decided to keep them at home in the safe during vacation. But a lot of law enforcement officers prefer to have their weapon wherever they are - vacation or not. Just glad we made it back without ever needing it :)

I thought the bag check was a joke too, until last weekend. maybe i look a little shady, but i got the pat down. i had not purse or anything. even had show them that nothing was under my hoodie.(wich pissed me off, so i quickly lifted my hoodie AND my shirt, whoops! she got flashed.) they also opened on the pockets and zipers and took things out of my friends purse and camera bag. it was odd. but we stood there waiting for another friend and watched and it was just these too ladies. it was odd.

I am not talking about private citizens who obtain a concealed carry permit. CCW's are impossible to get in California unless you're Diane Feinstein or Don Perata:

I'm talking about government employees (either local or federal) who are authorized to carry.

Thanks for the information. My question is not what is requested, but what is required? What if the LE Officer refused to relinquish the weapon, can DL refuse admission?

Sheesh. You guys are scaring me. Handguns at DL? What if a "bad guy" steals it from a "good guy?" I don't want to think about someone having a gun at DL...if someone wants to do something evil, he'll find a way, gun check or not. I just don't want to think about it.

A good friend of mine is a police officer, and (as many cops do) he carries his firearm *everywhere* he goes, including the last time I signed him into DL. It was not ever in view, but he had it with him the entire day. I suspect that this is not completely unheard of.

It's actually a requirement of many police departments. On duty or off, many cities require them to be packing. Some allow them to leave their weapon behind if leaving their jurisdiction. But still others say they should pack at all times they legally are entitled to.

I think that's what the new Federal law was meant for. To allow (and also encourage) more of them to have it with them at all times (what with all those terrorists out there and all).

Disney as a private entity can deny admission. It would be good form for them to refund the money, but they have no obligation to allow you into the park.
