Fess Parker will be honored with a window in Frontierland in a ceremony at park opening on Wednesday. The window will be located above the Frontierland hat shop, which is being renamed the Crockett & Russell Hat Co.

I picked up a snippet of a rumor that Disney Legend Bill Justice was going to be getting a window on Main Street at Disneyland, but that's all I heard and I don't know when.

He already has one (shared with some others though) on Main Street at Florida's Magic Kingdom.

Apparently, Disney just rescheduled the unveiling for next Wednesday, now. Sorry for the confusion.

There was a great write up in the San Francisco Chronicle about his winery last Sunday.

I visited the winery with my Dad. Nice place. Does DCA sell Fess's wine?

I hate to sound like a party pooper here and I've met Fess many, many times in person at his winery, at Club 33 at a special winemaker dinner, at the Disneyland Hotel, at Walt Disney World, etc, etc and he's a fabulous guy and I'm all for him being a Disney Legend (which he is)...but...

Didn't the Windows of the parks used to be reserved for those that had a direct hand in the building or operating of Disneyland? The "screen credits" if you will, of Disneyland. Walt giving his dad one being the notable exception?

I know Fess was there on opening day and all...but honestly...what did he really do to contribute to Disneyland that warrants such an honor as this? If I were one of the existing Window honorees, I might be a little miffed at such inclusion for what is likely just a cheap publicity stunt.

I know a couple of Windowers. I think I'll give them a call and get their opinions. Or am I missing something here? Who's next? Julie Andrews? Buddy Hackett?

I believe you are missing something here.

If memory serves, one of the main ways Walt got the funding for Disneyland was through the Disneyland TV show, on ABC (which is memorialized in a window -- [Something that starts with "A"] Business College -- right above the Coke Corner, or maybe the Candy Palace, North end of Main Street, West side, past the Penny Arcade). And one of the biggest breakout hits of that show was Davy Crockett, in fact I'll bet the whole idea of a Western-themed area right there off the Plaza might have been directly attributable to the Davy Crockett shows and all the little coonskin-capped kids it would draw.

I also wonder what Christopher Miller did to deserve a window besides being Walt's grandson.

Fess Parker likes to show his guests this wonderful color publicty photo of him and Walt at Disneyland on a day shortly before Disneyland opened. It was taken in front of the Red Wagon Inn (now Plaza Inn). The photo is cropped at the bottom roughly above the knees. And that's because Walt had someone bring him a wooden crate to stand on while the photo was taken! Fess loves tellin' that story. :)

Man, the suits were out in force today. I popped in for some quick shopping today while the kids were in school and I sweear I saw more badged, but not uniformed Disney roaming the park and DTD than I saw guests. Must have been the combo of Fess and the filming of the tv special.

The Davy Crockett show starring Fess Parker was one of the first series on the original Disneyland show (back in the mid-1950s) where Walt would show key concept art on the then-new Disneyland.

yeah, I got all that..but the other windows that are named for people use their actual names..not the character they drew..etc..therefore I dont see how this is a window for Fess Parker, rather than just the character Davy Crockett..the window should say "Crockett & Parker" or something..otherwise..its not named for him at all...

Christiii,

The window is named after him in a simialr fashion to other windows. The window has the Comapny Name "Davy Crockett, Coonskin Cap Supply Co."
And list 'Fess Parker' as the "Proprietor", or buisness owner. Take a look at the first phot AVP has a few posts back.

The Store is called "Crockett & Russell Hat Co." but this is written on the siding of the building and not the window.
