Inspired by Cariad's trip report!

My 12 year-old has begun to collect Disneyland pins, specializing in those with moving parts. All the CMs at the pin carts through the park treated her royally but the best? That would be the man at the Tomorrowland pin cart. He talked with my daughter as if he truly found her new love of moving-part pins something wonderful. It made a 12 year-old feel very special.

Tell us your most positive experience with a CM?

I have too many. Just so many great CM stories.

Having a child with Special Needs brings out the best in some CM's. We have been lucky to have such wonderful things happen to us while at DLR with our daughter.

But for me...one thing stands in my mind:
I was waiting in line to order our lunch at the Village Haus restaraunt. The family had found a table while I waited. There was a young woman standing next to me, and I noticed a pin on her sweater...and her sunglasses hanging from the pin. The pin was pewter...with Mickey ears at the top, with a loop down below to hold eye glasses.
I told her that I loved her pin (as my sun glasses were hanging from my shirt front), and I asked where she got it, as I would love to buy one...as obviously I could use it.
She told me that I couldn't buy one. It was for CM's only. She was a CM, but was eating lunch before she went onto her shift. She said, that they also didn't sell them any longer. I thanked her...and re-told her how cute it was. I ordered our lunch...and as I was waiting for our food, she handed me the pin!
She said, "Here, you can take this". I told her, no...I didn't want to take her pin from her...
She replied "Please take it! I actually have another one at home..."

How kind was that??

Funny how, when I wear the pin...I now get more compliments. Heck, even some CM's ask me where I work at DL...since they know it is a CM exclusive. :D

There's always one particular story of a Guest Relations CM that sticks out in my mind. Early one morning, I approached him at the information board in DCA (when it was located at that bridge in front of Paradise Pier) and asked him for the times for Road Trip. He looked through his clipboard and found that the sheet for the entertainment schedule was from the day before and called around the other GR locations to see if they had any info. No info, he apologized for not having it. No biggie, I said, I'd be there all day. I met up with my friend and later we headed back to DCA and passed the board again when he flagged me down and asked if I was the one asking for the Road Trip times. He said he hadn't gotten the schedule for the day (and it was already afternoon), but he did see them performing along the Corridor and was hoping I'd pass by again to let me know. I remembered his name for the longest time and now I don't remember anything other than it started with a J. He still works there and I see him from time to time, knowing I should thank him for a job well done.

3894: Glad to hear there are CMs making experiences like that. I always tried talking to kids but found it not to come with ease. I made a few parents' days, though, especially when there are parents who want to purchase things but don't know where to look or need an extra hand! My favorite Guest experiences were with the ones who took the time to smile back when I said hello and actually stopped to talk for a while about Disney parks. I miss that about working there.

As a CM (3rd shift) I dont get the opportunity to mingle with the guests. I wish I could. Especially the kids..sigh..(but I still love my job)..

Some people cant relate to kids 3894, my hubby is like that, then others can relate to kids and not adults (thats me)....so you have made other guests enjoy their disney experiences

I love this thread.

I have had so many wonderful CM experiences. Literally, it seems, everytime we go we meet at least one we find exceptional (and always make sure to fillout a compliment slip for them)

The one that comes to the forefront of my mind though:

First off, let me say that I am the official 'kiss of death' for Fantasmic. Seriously. I saw it back in 1998 (while on our honeymoon) and every single time since then (and we go at least twice a year) that we have tried to see it it was cancelled, wether for rain, or fog, or for whatever random reason. I have gotten out of bed at 4am just to stand in line to get balcony seating and have managed to book balcony seating around 6 or so times. Up until last December however, every single solitary time it got cancelled (we of course got refunds). In the last 2 years I have tried to outsmart the weather and have actualy booked two showings on two different dates. Even still each time...cancelled. I began to think that I was never going to see this show again. (I had managed to see it twice in WDW however in May of '03, but the Disneyland show eluded me with the exception of that one time in '98)
So last year, I booked two showings, one was on Christmas night (IIRC the last show) and one on January 2nd (hubby's bday). The first showing on Christmas night went off without a hitch and then it started to rain and they cancelled the 2nd show (of course). I was bummed (as usual) and this was one of our Christmas pressies for each other but we were fine. We knew we till ahd one more possibble chance (hopefully). So anyway Christmas night, we were in the Disney gallery store on main Street (one of our favorites) and we were chatting with a couple fo CMs in there (we always love talking with them), and we mentioned that we had had plans for the last showing of Fantasmic but it got cancelled, and we were talking about how it seemed we were never going to get to see it. Not bitterly, just kind of comically. We related how impossible it seemed and that it was my fault apparently. hahaha, you know...nothing major. And the one CM (I wont give her name because I wouldnt want her to get into trouble) said "What are your plans for tomorrow night? Will you still be here?" And we said yes, we would. So she whispered to us. "Meet me at the stairs at the bottom of the gallery in NOS at 10:30" It was all so covert. :) She said she may be able to help us, no promises. So we were all excited, wondering how she could help us. The next night we were there and she was waiting for us. She escorted us up the stairs and through the gallery to another blacony (just to the left of the one they do the dessert on). it had a comfy cushioned wicker couch and seats. And although we couldnt partake of the desserts, we had brought along some hot cocoa. We were right next to the other balcony but on our own little private one. It was fabulous!! Perfect view, cushioney seats and lovely alone time. I was enthralled. After the show she came to get us and led us through the darkened gallery to the back door and let us out. We of course thanked her profusely and gushed about how much it meant to us that she took the time to make our trip so special. She was so sweet about the whole thing. She said that after talking with us the night before she knew we were true Disney lovers and she had really wanted to share a special place with us. People like her are what make Disneyland so magical IMO. We, of course went immediately to Main Street and filled out a compliment card on her (using the priors days date and location) and without saying what she did we expressed how wonderful she was (we would have died before letting anyone know something that may get her into trouble).

Dear sweet CM who shall remain nameless for your protection, if you ever read this you know who you are and your kindness still shines in my heart. Thank you

BTW we did get to also do the dessert balcony on the 2nd (hubby's bday). I kept sneaking looks back to the other balcony and wishing we were there. Although we loved it as well ;) We got spoiled :p

Yah I agree, lots of CM experiences and just simple things like how polite they are and really seem HAPPY to see you there, not bothered, even when it's crowded.

I'm always impressed with the CM's in the shops on Main St., I know they get really busy but they never make you feel like they are a crazed and I know they are.

THANK YOU CM'S!

A few years ago we were at Disneyland on Trevor's birthday. We were in the pin shop, the one in tomorrowland with the name I can never remember?

Well, we were buying Trev a birthday pin and a CM came up and started talking to us...and she really managed to draw him out (which doesn't happen all that often). After Trevor told her he was crazy for Minnie, she asked us to wait, because she had received a note about a birthday present that had been left for someone who loved Minnie and now she knew who it was for. She went into the back and came back a few minutes later with a Minnie Mouse pin, which she gave to Trevor for his birthday. And she gave him a big hug.

Now, I know tod had been in the shop a few minutes before we got there and I know he told the CM about it, but you would never have known it from the way she approached us.

Spending so much time at Disneyland with a 'special needs' child really makes me appreciate the job the CM's do for guests. I once came upon Trevor after we had been briefly separated in a crowd. He was with a CM who was explaining to him that there was nothing to worry about...if Trevor got separated from his people and and was confused or frightened that he should look for someone wearing a name tag like "this one" (pointing to his own), one with the blue border (not the red ones they sell at the stands) and to not ever be afraid to tell the CM "My name is Trevor and I'm lost and I need help."

It's worth the price of the AP.

this was a great story, thanks for sharing it. I bet Trevor will remember this for the rest of his life

Glad to know you all enjoy it. We also have/take stories from CMs at the stores, on the ships or pretty much anyone who works for Disney in any capacity (or had gone anywhere as a guest). We will protect your identity if you work there.
As long as I get stories I'll keep posting them -- share the pixie dust!!

I will give you a little background. My middle DD will be 6 y/o in Dec. Our last trip was in March of 2004. She was very sick as a baby and a result of her treatments she is very petite. She has the courage of a 6 y/o but is the size of a big 3 y/o. On our last trip she just barley hit 40" with her platform heels on. She was in line for Soarin' with her father and sister. My DH measured her before they got in line and she made it. When they got near the front she started to get scared that she wasn't going to be tall enough from the angle of the height chart. The nearby guests got involved in my family's conversation as well as the CM in charge of measuring. When she stepped up, she just squeaked by. The CM started to cheer and clap for her as well as the guests. She felt 6 feet tall at that moment. My DH said it brought tears to his eyes. Priceless.

Our's was this past summer. We were walking around one night and a CM came up to us to see if we had an extra pull up. Some teens had brought their little brother along to DL but didn't back anything in case of accidents. So we gave her one, she thanked us and off we went.

The next night we were walking around Fantasyland trying to see if any of the lines were short enough to take the boys on "one last ride." That same CM came up to us and started chatting (she must have remembered us). She was asking how our day was going and what our favorite attraction was. I told her the boys loved Peter Pan's Flight and she said, "Oh that's my favorite too." We chatted a minute about the long lines it always seems to have and I thought we'd say our goodbyes and be off. Well she surprised us by saying, "how about one last ride, I'll sneek you in." I was very touched. You could tell by the way she spoke that she really loves the magic of DL. Our boys got one last ride and our trip was complete. I'll never forget it.
