As many of you have seen, I have been hosting aerial pictures of disneyland at http://zansstuff.com/aerialdl.html (someone posted a link to them back in April).
Recently, though my school, I got access to a large amount of recent USGS .3 meter resolution color images. I was able to extract over 150 images of the Disneyland Resort and stich them together into a very large, very high resolution image.
This new image has three times the resolution of the old one. What does this mean? Not only are people clearly visible, but lots of the little details, such as the Floral Mickey, the Casey JR R.R. topiary, and many christmas decorations are clearly visible.
You can download the new image from http://zansstuff.com/aerialdl.html. There are many sizes available, but the full resolution one is 10MB (although it's worth it).
I'm trying to pin down exactly when the pictures were taken. My guess is late 2003, since Tower of Terror is mostly completed but not open (the construction wall is still out in front), the holiday decorations are up (you can see the Christmas tree and wreaths on Main Street), the Mark Twain is in rehab, Tortilla Jo's still has construction walls around it, and they were in the process of painting Space Mountain white.
Some other things to look for are the California Screamin' train (I only see one), the two monorail trains, the Splash Mountain logs, the GRR rafts (and the spares off to the side), autopia cars, and the empty lounge chairs at all the hotel pools.
I was going to post these here earlier, but Cory Doctorow posted a link to my site on the front page of BoingBoing.net, which generated 55GB of transfers and almost 7,000 unique visitors in 16 hours. My ISP shut me down because I was slowing down their network (and they said I was just a few GB away from breaking the record). Thanks to DisneySites.com, I now I have the images back online, but please, don't submit the link to high traffic sites. Last thing I need is another Farking or Slashdotting.
