I was just reading Opus1guy's tour site, and wondering if anyone has ridden in the elevator? I was privileged to go a few (okay, it seems like yesterday, but maybe 4) years ago. I was hoping we'd get the elevator, but they escorted us up the stairs. I thought it was just for looks, but according to his site it looks as though it is (or was) in working order.

Since this is a "fluffy" question...may I ask you this? Do you get to see what Opus1Guy looks like if you go to his website? I've been dying to see his toupe and Robin Williams body! :p ;)

I think you can ask to ride the elevator.

I've never been though. :(

Each time we've dined at Club 33, we've ridden up in the lift. We were just there on 10-10 and it was working just fine. All four of us fit inside, tho we did have to manuever around to open and close the doors. We always take the stairs to get back down.

I thought I read that they leave a book of matchs with your name on it when you dine there? What other goodie do the "give" you?

Not us, but we were guests of a guest...they did have several Club 33 embossed freebies(like napkins and match books).

Tho what you're referring to as "freebies" are matchbook-sized, they are actually small pads of paper, not matchbooks and don't have names on them. You also get to keep the Club 33 pen you sign your charge receipt with. Other than the paper hand towels with a Club 33 logo on them (I don't think of these as "freebies", just something to use while you're there & not to take home), that are in the bathroom, I don't know of any other "freebies".

We only go there for dinner, not brunch/lunch, so I don't know if there are other things "given" at the other meal.

Last time we ate there, Mickey Mouse came around to wish all those celebrating birthdays (myself included) a Happy Birthday & to pose for photos with us. I know he's usually seen at the other meal, but this was the first time we saw him at dinner.

There is also Club 33 stuff you can buy. My hubby got me a Club 33 pint glass (wrapped in Club 33 paper). :) best gift ever!

I have kept the swizle sticks from drinks and of course I always ask for extra chocolate mints ;)

gah I am so jealous of everybody getting to go. My gf is a huge Disney fan and I would love to take her one of these days, it would make her year for sure. Oh well, we can all dream.

they used to leave matchbooks on the table with your name on it, but stopped doing that when all the california smoking laws went into effect I think. My dad has several from many years ago.
They do still give you the pads of paper (that look like matchbooks from the outside) and pens if you ask. And there's always the napkins/paper towel things you can steal from the bathroom. ;) :D
Every time I've been they've let us ride in the elevator. Maybe they time you went Melaniee it was broken or something.

Ok, OK, someone please tell me how you "get in". Do you have to know someone or can any Joe Schmoe make a reservation?

You can't make a reservation unless you are a member.
So if you are not a member you do have to 'know somebody'. :)

You also get to keep the Club 33 pen you sign your charge receipt with.

Just FYI...each Club 33 waiter only gets one of these pens per shift. It's up to them to offer it to whoever they like, or to give it away to anyone that inquires at their personal discretion.

Just taking the pen without asking and receiving permission...that's pinching it and is a Club no-no.

As has been mentioned here already, in previous times the old Club 33 matchbooks were embossed with the guest's name (the name the reservation was under). 1 or 2 per table. They were also embossed with other stuff upon special request from the member. "Happy Birthday Ken" and the date...that sort of thing.

Today, the mini-notebook "matchbook" just contains the date of the visit, and usually everyone at the table gets one. Sometimes the member's name is on one. But mainly that's now a special request item.

There was a long period of time when the mini-note-matchbooks were discontinued, but the new management has recently brought them back. :)

The Victorian-Age lift is sometimes out-of-order, and that could indeed be the case on Melaniee's visit. But other times when they are really busy downstairs...I've seen them send folks up the stairs to speed things up a bit. Also, the lift will only accommodate 3 or 4 guests. So often for larger parties they just send everyone up the stairs.

Freebies...you should all also get the logo'ed chocolates that are presented with the bill.

Other freebie souvenirs (I hate to consider them "collectibles") besides those mentioned above, include the black with gold embossed logo cocktail swizzle sticks and cocktail picks. The smaller cocktail pick is given in beverages that have twists or cherries in them, or placed as a swizzle stick in "short" drinks (like anything served in a Manhattan glass). The larger long swizzle stick is placed in "tall" drink glasses. That one is particularly a nice souvenir because in addition to the Club 33 logo appearing on the paddle, on the long stick portion of the swizzle stick it also says, "New Orleans Square, Disneyland."

On the more rare side of these freebie souvenirs is the Club 33 Cocktail Napkin. This small square bar napkin is actually a better souvenir than the "33" bathroom napkins because it is white with blue and gold lettering that has not only the "33" logo, but also the Club's full "script" logo of "Club 33 Royal Street, New Orleans Square, Disneyland U.S.A."

And finally the rarest of them all but still available...the Club 33 Matchbox. This is a boxed version of the matchbooks that contains wood matches. These are only given out now on special Member events where cigar smoking is part of the evening's menu or festivities. But if you're very friendly with a waiter, you may find they can scrounge one up for you.

So CoasterChickie...you may now add "with cigar hanging out of one corner of his mouth" to your list of Opus1guy descriptions. :)

Thanks for the info! There were four of us, plus the escort, so perhaps that is why we missed out on the lift. Oh well, maybe in my next lifetime. ;) Just getting to ring the bell and have them let us in was event enough!
