So TDL and DLP both get amazing Halloween stuff all over the park but Halloween is a US thing!?!?! "Whats up with that??" I have been to both the US parks right around Oct 31st and other then MNSSHP and Mickeys Halloween Treat (anyone remember that) they really don't do much for this time of of the year. It is funny my gf works for The Disney Store (Hoops Inc.) and over the past few years this is the biggest time of the year for them. If you look on eBay you can find a JoJo costume going for at times 300 bucks. But the parks seem to overlook the chance to toss out some ghosts and a cheap parade during the day......

I just wish DL would do something like Paris does(http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=46391) it would not be that hard and it is not like DLP has as many goth people as DL does j/k. But really other then HMH DL really does avoid anything to do with Oct. 31st except a chance to get out the x-mas stuff for Nov. 1st.

Just thinking aloud,

It would be nice, but would take a lot of extra money to put up decorations that will only be up for a short time then taken down so that Christmas things can be put up. My understanding of the effort put into DLP is to pull in more visitors in the off season. The weather in the area starts to get cold and rainy at this time of year, so they have extra Halloween stuff to make it more attractive to visit.

It certainly works at DLP. It is their busiest time of year - and their actual Halloween day events are completely sold out well in advance. You cannot just turn up and hope to get in.

The park is open very late and there are special events all around the resort. I have been at Halloween and it was absolutely fantastic.

I have often pondered as to why, when Halloween is more of an American thing though, that the parks in the US don't do as much. Last year I ended up going to Knott's Scary Farm as people explained DL didn't do anything special.

I agree with everyone on this . . .we were at DLP in Oct. 01 and the decorations and parade were awesome. They especially concentrate the "pumpkin man" theme throughtout Frontierland, making the overlay very fun.

If this is truly an "american" tradition, then why don't we have this!?!

I also included a photo of the castle-looks very much how our new castle paint job looks! :D

It is because it IS an "american" tradition that they do do it and that it is so popular, IMO.

Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France. They believed that Oct 31st was the day that ghosts and spirits returned to earth.

It is not an "American" Holiday like you all think.

Did the ancient Celts put glowing plastic pumpkins on the front lawn and go trick-or-treating for miniature Snickers bars while wearing Power Puff Girl costumes too? Because that seems awfully American to me.

What we know today as Halloween is much more based on things in the Americas past as detailed here http://www.halloweenishere.com/history2.html

But how much would it really take to do something cool like DLP. I hope after this year is done Matt will see how things worked a bit better in WDW and bring over some of the stuff they do over there. I recall one of the reasons they said that Mickeys' Halloween Treat never went over that well is cause Knotts is right down the road. But if you think about it Knotts is so not kid friendly so do something for the kids a few nights and see what happens.

Very true. Here's a great link about the origins of Halloween. For some reason the pictures aren't coming up on my computer, maybe they'll show up on others though. I personally love the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos.
