How many of you's have been in line for a ride atleast no more then 10 people to 20 people away from riding the ride and then all of a sudden it shuts down due to Technicaly difficulties? How do you act? How do you Act infront of your children? How do you act infront of other guest? How do you Treat the Cast Members operating the ride? Do you give them any respect what so ever?

Hopefuly everyone can asnwer yes to the last question. But from my expericance on Sunday at Roger Rabbit waiting in line with my two cousins about 10 people away the ride shuts down. Apparently it was a safety cut out that shut down the ride. Meaning that something happened that wasn't suppose to and the Ride Computer Sensors caught it before anything else happened. What I noticed was that the Cm's jumped on their procedures quickly and preciely, bascaily they knew exactly what to do. What bothered me the most was that a few people waiting in line started to distract the Cm's and demand they be satisfied for waiting in a long line (the line was no more then 10 mins) all day and for it to shut down that it is wrong and that they paid money to ride a ride and they demand to ride a ride now. Now the Cm's were trying to tell the guy to stay behind the yellow line and to step off the track for safety reasons and the guy presisted that he didn't care and that the ride was off so how could he get hurt and all he cared about was getting on a ride or getting a free pass. And the Cm's still asked him to step behind the safety line and the would speak to him after they take care of the Guest inside the attarction. This went on for more then 4 mins, by then the Cm's could of been inside and cleared the attarction of the guest to restart the ride up. But because of this MORON that distracted the Cm's for almost 5-10 mins it took the ride alot longer to clear.

The Guy eventually left the attarction and withen about 5 mins the ride was back up and running again. My advice to anyone that visist DL or DCA or any theme Park or Amusment park is to PLEASE Follow the Guidelines writen or not written. It makes things alot easier and just beacause a ride might be down or "TURNED OFF" don't asume it is safe to cross on a track or hope over a fence to retrive a hat just cause the RIDE appears to BE "OFF" because that is not safe. You will not only get yourself hurt but you would aslo be getting anyone else around hurt or maybe even worse. Remember this tip "You weight about 50-350 lbs(whom ever you are either old or young) and the ride vehicals weight about 1000-2000 lbs, who do you think is going to win???" Please use common sense people it makes life so much easier.

When a ride breaks down right before it's my turn to go on I am always thankful that I am not actually on the ride. On one of my visits the Matterhorn broke down right before our turn and the people who were riding were stuck on it for over an hour. On our last visit, two of the TOT elevators malfunctioned right before our turn. I kept telling my kids that it was a "sign" that we shouldn't go on (mostly because I was really nervous about riding it.)
I'm glad we waited because that ride was a nice bouncy one!

Maybe some people take acting like a kid at DL a little too far by throwing tantrums and all. That is really unkind and unsafe!

I've been in line lots of times when the ride has broken down right when I was near or at the loading station. Splash Mountain, Pirates, Thunder, Small World, California Screamin in DCA. I've even been on a ride when it broke down right when we were about to get OFF the ride. I was on Pirates, the ride broke down and we were the very next boat to be unloaded. My friend and I sat there for at least 20 minutes. They instructed everyone in line to turn back they other way and head towards the entrance because the ride was being closed indefinetly for that day. We could have very easily stepped or lept onto the dock on the side, but of course, we couldn't. Obviously there is water between us and the dock, so we had to sit and wait.

But I have NEVER been in the middle of a ride when it breaks down. I've always wondered what it's like to be stuck on a ride like Indy, Space, Splash, especially Indy. Is it scary, interesting, how do you get out and off? Is there anyone here who had experienced this? What was it like?

There's always some selfish jerk who thinks he should be catered to "just because". Good to hear the CMs stayed professional and didn't resort to insults or yelling.

Once, my mom and I had been waiting in line for Peter Pan for 20 min. when it broke down, and it was going to take half an hour to fix it. We just said forget it and went over to Star Tours.

I stomp my feet, act like a total jerk and storm off in anger. Haha! Just kidding! I am the most patient person and have NO room for that behavior....from others....and certainly not from ME! I have also been behind these people and I think, "Hey buddy, what do you want from this CM? They are doing the best they can do!" People are so odd sometimes, and being a pacifist, as much as I'd like to make a scene and tell them where to go...I politely roll my eyes in disgust! ha! :D

I always thought it would be terrible if Screamin were to break down and you were doing the loop....I have seen it break down right before a car was going into the loop.

what do I do? I don't think thats ever happened to me...hhmmmm...one time thunder mountain broke down when we were waiting in line, but not 10 to 20 people close to the front and we just walked backwards through the line and then asked the CM standing in front of the line the stupidest question ever, "how long do you think it will be down?" I know it's really stupid, but I can't seem to stop myself from asking. I then get an equally stupid answer, "we're not sure..." I then say, "ok, thank you". and decide what to ride next. Oh, this happened on splash mountain once also, but the worst thing is to be stuck on the ride. I got stuck on the jungle cruise for over an hour. Our boat had derailed. Then I got stuck on pirates for about 45 min. A man in wadders pulled our boat up to the fire scene and we had to exit via backstage. They did give us a free front of the line pass for that, but we didn't ask for them...they offered so I lined up...LOL..we were stuck in the yo ho song area. Sfter 30 min they turned the sound of...people appaulded....LOL...YES, that song can get really annoying after 15 min straight...LOL

Yes, its happened to me a few times too. Fortunately it hasnt happened to me lately, and hopefully wont happen next month when I go again with my family. I've had this problem the most on Indy (3x that i recall), i remember a time on Space Mt, but all you can do is take it easy, and wait it out if you choose. Thats what I always did- while other guests around me, my family and friends simply yell, and throw little fits. I've always given the CM's respect while i was inquiring about the situation, as well as the other guests. My friends, family, and myself like alot of other people realize things like this will happen, while some guests think otherwise.

On one of my first trips to DL, I was probably 6 and my sister 4, or maybe 8 and 6... and Space Mt broke down mid ride. They turned the lights on and after maybe 10-15 minutes we walked out. There was a walkway next to the track. It was weird to see the coaster with the lights on. Anyway, the funny part is, to this day, my 22 year old sister will tell you they stopped the ride because she was screaming so loud and was screaming "Get me off, Get me off, Get me off." Needless to say, we did not take up the offer for front of the line pass once it got fixed :)

Rides break down - its life. I have never been on the monorail - it always breaks down. The last time in September I was actually sitting inside for the first time - but it never left the station. It was incredibly hot and we were relieved to eventually be allowed off.

We smile and go "right what shall we do now".

I am there to be in a happy place and have a happy time - why spoil that by stressing yourself - just accept the world isn't perfect and things break and instead be grateful that the majority of times the rides work.

(I do so want to go on the Monorail at some point in my life though LOL - it has become a bit of a running joke - actually adding to the fun cos its funny)

For me it all depends.. if for instance I have been in line an hour or more, then I feel justified in asking for a fastpass or some way to get that place back in line where I was. I know its a little selfish perhaps, but I generally dont get to go to Disneyland, but once every 5 years or more and this last trip was the first time we could afford to stay more than one day in a row. Splash mountain is ALWAYS a nightmare when the fastpasses run out... last trip we waited in line approximately an hour and a half and had it break down right as we were getting to the loading area. I would have been pretty peeved if I hadnt remembered about the single rider thing I read about... we went and got single rider passes and got on right away being only one log apart from each other.

I do NOT throw a fit, or take it out on a cast member thats just stupid. I do try to keep my cool and politely ask for a way back in line to approximately where I was... such as a fastpass. When I was a kid in the 70's if a ride broke down and you were around the next 20 people or so to get on they used to automatically give you a special pass to come back and ride right away (sort of a fastpass BEFORE fastpass existed) so I am kinda used to that particular concept, and still expect it as common curtesy, but only to the next few immediate loads of guests.

Regarding being stuck on rides and the experience of it... I have only been stuck on one ride: small world. Dont get me wrong I like the ride, but after getting stuck in one spot for 20 minutes and hearing the song over and over I was about ready to paddle out myself, or jump out of the boat running and screaming. I would love to get stuck on pirates or Indy. :D

A friend of mine got stuck in that scene for...get this...90 MINUTES!! The CMs didn't think to turn the music off until everyone started shouting and begging for the music to be turned off. I was waiting for the second showing of Fantasmic, and I was wondering what was taking him so long. I've never gotten stuck on a ride other than HM during those momentary stops for people who need assistance getting on/off. The closest I've ever gotten to getting stuck on a ride was on Space Mountain. I was in the next group to walk up to the loading area. I had been watching the CMs and it seemed like there was something wrong. They kept unloading the rockets and just immediately dispatched them (not into the left tunnel either, they were sent onto the ride track). After a few minutes of that (maybe they were trying to get all of the guests off?) all of the lights came on and they announced that the ride was down. I was dissapointed but, oh well. BTW a trip to DL is a big deal for me, too. I live in Utah and I only make it out about once a year (twice if I'm lucky). But my wait is almost over. I'm leaving next Tuesday and I'll be in DL Wed, Thu, and Fri next week...I CAN'T WAIT!! I WANNA GO NOW! :D :D :D :D :D :D

yes - the matterhorn - MANY times, lol. We just wait a few minutes and if its not ready we shoot over to the cars or whatever. I never, ever give them a hard time over it. People act like its the worker's fault that it broke. When I worked at SW and shipwreck went down we used to get yelled at hardcore by the guests.. so I know how much it can suck for them.

This happened to my family twice in one day. Years ago we stood in line for one of the Fantasyland rides when it broke down. We left the exit and went to one of the neighboring rides and that one broke down too. My dad went to City Hall and complained and we go a free Through The Exit pass for our family to any two rides of our choice. I remember Space Mountain was one of our choices.

How can IASW break down? Does a boat sink? lol Perhaps a disgruntled <sp> doll goes on a rampage with an African horn?

It reminds me of how many times I have been at the doctor's office, next appointment in line, and he has to leave to go deliver a baby, lol!!! Anyway, I have been on the PeopleMover and it broke down right at the part where we were in the tunnel with the cars going by us on the screen. We waited and waited, and believe me it got really old, and finally some CM's came and walked us off. I don't recall ever being "in line" and having it break down. That certainly would be frustrating. :)

We got stuck on Splash Mountain right where you see the bears behind above you. We were stuck there for about 15 minutes. My husband took a little nap while the kids and I took pictures of him sleeping!

I've been stuck on many rides, and Thunder Mountain was one of them. They didn't compensate for anything, we were just removed from the ride (we were in of the caves and were taken out, which was actually kind of awesome to see the workings and lay out of the ride, which was worth it to me).

But my best experience of getting stuck on a ride would be Rocket Rods. That ride, for of all, was awesome. The line was an hour long, and we stood in it. Unfortunately, the ride (like the history of Rocket Rods) always broke down. So the hour line actually took 2 hours. We weren't in a hurry (my wife and I had just got engaged, so we were in that "romantic" stage) so we patiently waited. Patiently because I remembered Splash Mountain closing quite a bit when it first opened.

Finally, after being surrounded by winers for two hours, we got on the ride. Half way through it, the ride shuts down. It was night time, we were surrounded by bushes, and everybody on the car was joking about how we could get mugged by someone hiding behind the bushes because there was no way we could get ourselves out of the car. The best part and scariest part, I was in the front row and kept imagining this guy dressed in black coming to rob us.

The ride finally got on its way, and to our amazement, the CM's that worked the ride apologized for the shut down and told us we could go on the ride again if we wanted to. First, the ride was awesome and riding it once, even with a shutdown, was awesome. Riding it a second time, and being in the front seat, BRING IT ON. Best experience with a ride breaking down ever. I miss Rocket Rods, and the empty track, and the unfortunate opening of Buzz does not replace such an awesome attraction. My son will enjoy Buzz though, at least that's something.

It was so sad when that happened at Great America. I often wonder what on earth people are thinking.

[QUOTE=CoasterChickie]When a ride breaks down right before it's my turn to go on I am always thankful that I am not actually on the ride.
That's exactly how I feel. I've been stuck on Indy for only 10 minutes and the Monorail for about 15. Both of those were rather scary and very uncomfotable. When I'm in that situation my first that is thank god I'm not on there right now. Then I ask the people that I'm with if they want to wait it out or just go on a different ride. I'd never think to take my frustration out on the CMs for something that isn't their fault.

My kids and I got stuck in the dumbest place on a ride at DL. It was on the Snow White ride, where the 2 birds are sitting on a branch above you, staring down. We took pictures, and had a great time in there! Why can't I get stuck where they take you out, through the ride? (DO NOT want to get stuck on Screamin'!)

I can recall being stuck on a ride or two through the years. One time we were on Roger Rabbit's when it broke down...we were escorted through the attraction on foot, and firmly told to not take any pictures whatsoever!

Several years ago, my brother and I were riding the Monorail when it lost power in the back part of the park, prior to arriving at the main station. It was early evening and we were stuck for quite a while, until we were 'pushed' in to the station. That was interesting!

Last May, my hubby and I were on the Sun Wheel when it stopped. It took about 20 minutes before we were able to disembark, and were given a pass good for any attraction at either park that day (we used it as a FastPass at Soarin' later that evening). We didn't mind, because we were stuck at the top and had a great view!

We also had one incident in WDW a few years back...after waiting about 45 minutes for the Pooh ride, it broke down with us fairly near the front of the line. It was our last day at the MK, and I was pretty disappointed to not be able to ride it before we left. Oh well, it's just part of the experience sometimes! ;)

Whenever a ride beaks down, I always have to think of safety first. I want to make sure that we all follow the guidelines being given by a cm. Then if the ride is broke for a while or the rest of the day, we will look at the situation then.

A free fastpass is always a bonus.

Hee hee. ^_^

I always thought it would be terrible if Screamin were to break down and you were doing the loop....I have seen it break down right before a car was going into the loop.
I heqard that rides like that are designed to use gravity...so if the ride breaks down the car will coast to the bottom of the curve and stop there...makes sense..as long as the cars are spaced well enough apart.
i was stuck on BTMRR about a yrar ago...on the uphill climb where the stalagtites are..for 45 minutes!! the worst part is, I was with my mom and she doesnt like those rides..so I was on it alooooone...geeez I felt like a dork..hehe...there were other people in the car...ai just didnt know em..so you just kind of sit there hoping they dont thing you are tooo big of a loser..ai even tried to call my mom to let her know what was going..and no service!! haha...go figure!
