We went to DL this morning and it was great-absolutely no lines and walked right on everything. Oh course, went straight for the HMH . . .I just love this layover! It seems the same as last year, but we loved it all the same. For anyone who has not been on it, try to see it-it gives the HM a whole new fresh, fun experience! I will be sad if they take it away next year :crying:

Do they still have to Oogie Boogie's to hunt for?

I went on HMH tonight and altho it was fun, I was rather disappointed that they added nothing new to the attraction this year. Each year they've had it, they have always added something new/different. So I was a bit sad! :crying:

And refresh my memory...didn't New Orleans Square always have a lot of festive wreaths and garland up during this time of year that had both a Christmas/Halloween theme to it? I even remember some of the trees having cool lighting effects last year. But it was all very boring tonight around the Haunted Mansion/New Orleans.

Maybe Matt doesn't like Halloween, so he cut a lot of it back! :D

Oh well, like I said, it was still fun and I'm glad I went.

All of the ones from last year aren't still there, but some of them are.

Even though it's not much different from last year, I still love HMH! The change to the Zero theme in the ballroom is nice (love the cake with the cookie dog bone candles!) and a few pumpkin scarecrows out front, there's not much difference.

It needs A LOT more Oogie Boogie and Dr. Finklestein!

I also went on it today and was disappointed when I went on it a second time. The second time there was no sound in my doombuggy at all.

If anyone is interested in seeing a rough video of the attraction, we currently have one done by RU42.

We also have footage of the Indy Snake in action at:

The decorations come out closer to christmas. Remember, Disneyland does not do anything "official" for halloween a la KNotts or other Disney parks..

I was shocked when I went last night and there were hardly any lines. I think the highest was 45 minutes! They had all the ropes out and nobody in them! The entire park wasn't that crowded. It made me fearful that this really may be the last year we have it in DL!

I have to wonder if that means there are a lot more people like me. I made it to the three previous opening (to the public) nights of HMH and last night I was sad not to be there, but I've let my AP lapse and I wasn't paying $50+ just to see HMH.

What it needs is A LOT more Sally. Come on, Imagineers, I know you can put a Sally AA in there somewhere! :D

Okay, a quick question. We thought that our kids (6, 4 & 3) might be able to do the Haunted Mansion finally, but I've heard that the Holiday Version is scarier than the regular version.

Also, since I haven't been in the Haunted Mansion myself for (wince), 20 years, do you think the kids are too young?

Years ago my sister and I went on HM with our little brother. He was four at the time and was crying by the time we got to the hallway with the ever changing paintings. My sister's boyfriend escorted my little brother through the emergency exit and watched him while my sister and I rode HM. I noticed your kids are around the same age as my brother was at this time, so I thought you might want to know about the little story.

The haunted mansion holiday looks more color full and fun filled imo. Not scarier. Found a video of it from last year here. http://www.disneyforever.com/media/dl/index.htm

Are you talking about the HM or the HM Holiday version (NBC)?

In my story I'm referring to the regular version. I only rode the Holiday version once, and with my brother ironically. He was much older by then and thought the Holiday version didn't do any justice for the ride.

I guess that's what I needed to hear. My six year old really thinks that she wants to go, so I'll let her go with her dad, while I take the two little ones somewhere else.

Thanks everyone!

Have your little ones seen the movie? If they have, they would probably enjoy the ride seeing the characters come to life! Other than being dark, I think it is less scary than the original.

My 7 year old can only handle the HMH version. The regular version is too scary for her, but she loves the movie NBC so that may be why. She has been going on the HMH since she was 5. She still can't handle the regular version! I definitely wouldn't take the two younger kids.

WHAT? HMH scarier? No way. Who told you that?

I have to agree, I am not a fan of the regular version with my son, however HMH seems more "joyful" and not as dark.

I found HMH kind of scary, but it was only because I had no idea what would be different, so the suspense was higher--never knew if something new was going to leap out at me, etc. However, that obviously doesn't factor in to the decision of somebody who's never been on the ride before.

I think the elevator is really scarier, though; it just seems darker and creepier, with the breaking glass and the singing children and all. It's just that the rest of the ride makes up for it by being a lot more cheerful and bright.

i guess it all depends on your kids. do they like the movie? my 4 year old loves that movie. we've gone to see HMH every year since 2001 when it premiered. she was 17 months old and she loved it....and has loved it ever since. she's not very fond of HM when it's not "jack's house", as she calls it. it's much scarier for her in it's regular format.
