Aw man. I just wanted to go there before it closed. :(

I love that place.

I had planned on renewing my marriage vows there.

Well I guess not!!

Have you ever been? I have a handful of times and I loved it.

LOL Do you think it would fit in the BTR area???!!

We absolutely love that place. We have gone there every summer since our kids were born. It's affordable, it's fun, and the staff is just awesome. It's definitely on the same level as Disneyland in class and style. I am truly sad that it is closing. I wonder what they'll do with that beautiful piece of property.

If you've never been, what you've missed is sort of like a large scale version of Billy and the Hillbillies. :crying:

I was there once when I was a kid and we had a blast. The Cartright house was cool. They also served these giant burgers. Its a shame it is closing.

I, too, have been to the Cartwright Ranch and it was a fun place. However, think about it. Bonanza is an old program, and it probably needs to retire. When I mention certain things, that I think should be common knowledge, my teenagers usually say, "huh?" For instance, they got the word that Jay Leno is supposedly retiring in 2009. I mentioned that it doesn't seem like that long ago that Johnny Carson retired. "Who's Johnny Carson?" was the reply, lol. My point is, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and other "oldies" (unless they are part of the re-run circuit on cable/satellite), are not commonly known to "younger" folk, or "next" generation. Sad, but true. I suspect that less and less tourists are visiting the ranch, thus less income/profits from running the place. It was a neat place to go, however. The whole Tahoe area is beautiful. But alas, generations pass and time goes on, and what was once "common" has faded into memory! I occasionally quiz my teenagers on the first names of the Beatles, and other trivia from the 60's, just to make sure they realize that there is something in their life besides Jay Leno, Skateboards, Mosh Pits, and Pizza, lol!!! :)

I visited once. It was a good time. Friends and I got photo taken in a saloon scene. They made the photo all old and weathered looking.

Bonanza outdated? It went off the air 6 years before I was born. I love that show. Think its on at least twice a day here in the Bay Area. Of course I grew up watching it with my mom. She had a big crush on lil Joe.

Wouldnt it be great walking down the Big Thunder trail hearing the Bonanza theme?

If DCA ever did the Soap Weekends. They could have David Cannary (Candy)do a signing over at the ranch.

I never ate one of those yummy burgers until our last visit this summer - and I will miss 'em too.

I don't think there is a way for Disney to help here - if you polished up the cartwright house, etc. to Disney park standards (post refurb) all of the charm would be lost.

Ideally, wouldn't something like the Cartwright/Bonanza Ranch be a little more appropriate for Knotts Berry Farm? :)

While it is true the show has been off the air for a long time, it has a very large following.

My kids are familiar with it, they are 19, 16, and 10. Yes, it is because I made sure to watch it but it is some of the best family television I ever saw.

That and the Little House shows.

I shared so many afternoons with my kids enjoying the shows. We would discuss what was going on, definitely learn lessons.

I loved the way they all interacted. Adam, the dark older one who darn it, no woman could snag {except Laura and then his cousin took her away!!} and Dadburnit! Good ol' Hoss. Gentle Giant with a heart of gold. Little Joe~ the smooth talking cutie who everyone wanted to marry or kill. LOL

I loved to see Hoss and Little Joe interact. The schemes they pulled.

Anyone remember the leprechan episode? I was rolling with laughter with that one.

Ah. I am glad I have a dozen tapes with the shows on them. ;)

But, I will miss them. I never did get a 'Hoss Burger'. Did play around in the casino and we do have a photo from our last trip. {old time one}

Thanks for the memories. :)

I vaguely remember going there as a kid in the late 60s on my first trip to California. I don't remember all that much except being excited to be there, since I loved Bonanza. Another treasure, lost to the ages. :sigh:

Ahh yes, the Hoss Burger!!! I remember being about 13 years old and eating two of these and then walking through the mine (I think) where the floor is crooked..Not the best feeling in the world.

I'm glad you liked it! Do you have a picture of you and your son laughing uncontrollably? I'd like to see that one!! :D

I need some cheering up...it makes me so sad to think of Ponderosa being closed. :crying:
