In 2001 i remember hearing something about Disney buying the strawberry field over on Contella (street?). DOes anyone know if this is true?

If i remember right, the field was probably big enough to put a water park on. If disney did buy the property i would like to see them put in a waterpark there and extend the monorail out in that direction. Then they could put in another Disney hotel or nice hotel in that area. I think disney would get ALOT of business out of that considering all the people that stay at the good neighbor hotels. Plus people would need to stay at the DLR a little longer in order to expierience everything. OF course, no matter how cool this could be, i would like to see them get DCA up to par before putting anything in new.

What do you think Disney should do with the field?

I hope they put a monorail there too.. for whatever goes there.. because then our usual stay would be so much easier to get to and from Disneyland! :) Also we would have great views, seeing as how the strawberry land bumps right into our timeshare resort, Dolphins Cove. And with the way the businesses are dropping out of that block, they might buy everything else out too..
I don't exactly want a waterpark, I'm not a huge fan of those.. but another theme park would be awesomely cool (uh, given its result, of course).

NO WaterPark please! This piece of land is Larger by a good 20 acres than DCA.....so a good size theme park could be built here.

Many are hoping for a Disneysea Park or even a Westcot. Some have dreamed of a Villians park........me, I think a park with an all encompassing theme would be a bad idea(see dca). Disneyland is a hodgepodge of several themes that somehow mesh together perfectly. I think a park that has a Villians land would be fine, but not a whole park. How about something like this:

Entrance land------------Themed after a Roman Market Square.

Land on West side--------Themed after Egyptian Civilizations

Land on North side--------Villians land themed after Disney Villians

Land on East side---------the American 1950s

What's wrong with parks with a general theme? Disney's Animal Kingdom for instance? I liked the lands in your make believe park except for the 1950's. I mean i work at Johnny Rockets and "Mr. Sandman" is only fun the first 15,000 times.

As I recall, Disney has an exclusive option to buy the land but has not actually done so as of yet. I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm mistaken.

Last time I was there, our shuttle driver from Embassy Suites said Disney had bought the land. He also said the guy who farmed the land for many years repetedly turned Disney down. As soon as he died, his kids sold.

OOOhhhh - a Westcot would be awesome. Since Epcot is my favorite park at WDW, having one close to home would be great!!! I'd sure spend a lot more time at DL!

bus drivers must be in the know there.....our bus drive about two years ago told us also that Disney had bought it..and that it was going to be a Dinosaur themed water park..seemed plausable at the time to me....but who knows..it sure sounded like he knew what he was talking about..he was the bus driver after all :D

From reports in the newspapers...Disney has bought and secured the land.

The previous owners of the field are the son's of the man who refused to sell to Disney for years and years. With his passing...the son's held out selling until Disney would pay them this astronomical price. Which...Disney eventually did.
I guess it worked out well for all parties concerned. Disney finally got the land...the land seller's become rich! :D ;)

That is too funny because when we were there for Christmas 2002 our shuttlebus driver from the hotel told us the same thing! Well, just the water park part, but because DCA has been a disaster they were holding off until they can fix it.

I think a water park would be a pain! Keep the water sports at the hotels/motels, or better still, visit one of the So Cal beaches! A Westcot sounds intriguing. What about a huge ampitheater with top attractions. How about a casino (jk)? Skies the limit, but the water park seems like the worst idea. :)

Thanks! yeah i can see waht you mean about the waterparks, but typhoon lagoon is pretty neat isnt it? It would be GREAT if they could have another themepark like westcot or something but i would like to see something done with DCA first! dont you?

But wouldnt you rather have something completly new and not just another WDW copy cat?

build something like pleasure island
Pleasure island is very small compared to the amount of land they have there. http://disneyforever.com/columns/presentandfuture/article_08.htm
Scroll down to the picture of the map. I wonder what all the land around it has on it.

I think the street is Katella :)

They need to fix or bulldoze DCA before even considering a new park.

We could only dream of a Disney Sea park on the lot.

We'll probably get another parking garage or an extension of DCA...

How much do you think the land sold for?

I have been thinking of a disney sea there but i would want something new. Besides a bugs land has too many simularities with mermaid lagoon and if we get subs at DL we wouldnt need them at a disney sea.

When I was there last week, our tour bus driver told us that that area was slated to be a water park. The only downside to a another Disney theme park is "how would it effect the theme park ticket prices"?. The reason I don't go to WDW every year is the price for a park hopper ticket (cost me $600 each because your ticket had to coincide with the number of days at the park, which ended up being 7 days), and when they introduced DCA, ticket prices did almost doubled (at least for the 5 for 3 deal). I can still manage the cost now for our annual trip to DLR. At least a water park, you don't have to go to, so it would not affect the ticket price. Whereas another Epcot might give them a reason to up ticket prices.

But hey, I'm game for whatever they build. I'd definitely use another theme park over a water park...hotel pools are good enough for me.
