I am thinking about booking a hotel for early October 2005, but will all the 50th celebrations be over? I'd love to avoid the summer heat & crowds but I don't want to miss anything exciting!

The 50th celebration is due to last 18 months.

I highly recommend going in late October, early November of 2005. Last year (2003) I went on my vacation to DL & DCA at that time and it was the most kickback time of the year. It's smack dab in between Labor Day and Thanksgiving so you don't have to worry about crowds. PLUS on Halloween you can go trick or treating at Downtown Disney and I hear the shops and other places give out free treats every year. And Halloween is the only time adults can wander through both parks in Halloween costumes. When I had gone in 2003 the Jack Sparrow costume was VERY popular among adults and kids. I saw a couple full grown men walking around with their little sons in identical Sparrow outfits. It was awesome.

I'm planning my vacation this year for the last full week of October. I'm looking forward to it.

I also think that Halloween time is a great time to go. The crowds are manageable and HMH is on! Otherwise, mid to late January (not on a holiday weekend) is practically empty!

We went on Halloween 2001 and it was fantastic. The crowds were light and I don't remember being scarred by too many good attractions being closed.

Keep in mind that Space isn't due to reopen until Nov 6th 2005. So you may want to plan your 2005 trip around that. I expect that with Space opening that first week in November the park will also be a little more crowded than normal.

That's why we are going Thanksgiving week. I know it will be crowded towards the end of the week, but we will be arriving the Friday before and leaving the Friday after Thanksgiving, hopefully we will miss most of the crowds.

I was planning to go late November, to go after Thanksgiving, but now I have an actual date on Space re-opening, I think early November looks good too!

November couldn't be more perfect - we'll have holiday overlays/parades, anniversary stuff still on, and Space back. All nice timing :)

Hi,

I am going to the park 1st - 8th November 2004 - apart from Space Mountain being closed (!) can someone give me an idea of what the weather / crowds might be like at this time? I'm from the UK, and have never been to LA before!
Thanks

We will definitely be there. I know it will be insanely crowded but so it goes. I was there for the 25th anniversary and attended the 25 hour party they had to celebrate. It lasted from 12"midnight to 1"00 am the next day! Insane!
I have photos of party goers crashed in the mainstreet theatre at about 4:00 in the afternoon. They still had ticket books then but 25 hour party people got unlimited rides, food, and even birthday cake all for less than 20 bucks. Best deal ever.
next visit to Disneyland Aug.28-29 yay!!!
