A google search yielded this Web site (http://zansstuff.com/aerialdl.html) with a high-resolution photo of the resort. Enjoy!

Interesting picture. looks like it was taken a while ago. Isn't that dirt area to the north of the D-land hotel a parking lot now for D-town Disney?

It really shows where they can go with expansion. In DL you basically have the Big Thunder Ranch, Hunchback area where we could see a new attraction, and the spot where Innoventions unfortunatley sits wasting valuable attraction space.

I'm not a fan of DCA in its current state, but the Timon parking lot provides a lot of space for future expansion. It looks to be about a third or fourth as big as the rest of DCA. This area will be key as to whether DCA improves or continues to stagnate. I have to say that much avaliable space gives me hope that great attractions can be added to the park.

There's a thread about this, oh, six or more months ago.
Still a cool picture, though.

I agree ~ there's no Flik's Fun Fair nor ToT visible. However, I enjoyed seeing the other details ~ thanks for posting the link, Lani! :)

I believe that is the Fantasyland Theatre, where Snow White is currently being performed.

Actually Downtown Disney is just next to the Grand Californian...see the green topped buildings? That's the GC...Downtown is RIGHT above it. It's funny how it shows it not straight. Nice optical illusion when you are on the ground.

I see D-Town Disney. I'm talking about the big dirt area between the DL hotel and the parking garage.

The buildings to the lower right is a couple hotels, one of which I believe is the Candy Cane, and a 7-11. I noticed it last time I was there, and thought these would be obvious areas that Disney would want to buy. For all I know Disney could already own that property and is leasing it to the hotels and 7-11 as tenants until Disney needs the space.

That would be John Wayne Airport. I don't think so ~ whenever we fly in to this airport on Southwest from Sacramento, they never have flown over the DLR. We have had a great view of the Queen Mary and the shell that used to house the Spruce Goose, though. I think it will depend upon where you're flying from.

Have a great trip! :)

When we have flown Southwest from Sacramento we could see Disneyland on the left side. We were not directly over it, but enough that my kids still got excited about it and you could clearly see the mountains of DL. Granted, it has been about a year since we have flown to John Wayne Airport, so I am not sure if things have changed. I have never thought about taking a picture.

Maybe it was too smoggy when we have flown in! :D

When most flights come down the coast from NoCal they follow the coast until about Huntington Beach - they take a left turn to go inland in order to do a 180 degree turn over Tustin/Anaheim Hills to go to John Wayne airport.

When this inland direction is taken - you can always see DLR on the left hand side of the plane. THe thing to look for in order to spot DLR is not Disneyland itself (or DCA) - but the Mickey and Friends parking structure. It's so huge you can't miss it. Night-time especially, since it's VERY well lit.

Well there was a thread on here in the past, possibly one talking about a future third park, that went into this very issue. One of the posters, who seemed to really know what they were talking about, mentioned that Disney does own a lot of property around the resort area, but doesn't really advertise it for obvious reasons. The poster said that those green plastic covered fences surrounding vacant lots around Disney is property owned by Disney.

Also the strawberry fields across from the convention center on Harbor is a major chunk of land that Disney owns.

I'm still looking for hidden Mickeys... a bit disappointed that the overhead of DTD isn't one. :(
