:crying: according to the article titled "yesterland recieves 2 new tenents" located in the disneyland news portion of MP, The yesterland list has just got 2 attractions longer. According to the article Superstar limo and sleeping beauty walkthrough attraction have now been added to the list and disneyland holds no other refrence to either of the attractions. Is it just me or does it seem like the attractions that i and many other people have grown up with are being quickley removed and replaced with other rides and attractions? not to say DL isnt still magical but...doesnt it seem like some of the more modern day technology that is replacing some of the older, vintage things disneyland has to offer is, well, lets just say a little less magical and nostalgic? It really makes me sad to see that these two attractions (even though superstar limo in DCA wasnt the greatest attraction) added to the ever-growing yesterland list! :crying:

In many cases they're Not being replaced with other rides and attractions. Sub Lagoon sits empty, as does People Mover, Skyway Area....etc. Are they going to pour concrete inside the castle walkthrough to fill in the space essentially wasted? What a joke. :(

Disneyland and DCA (Disney's Corporate Abomination) aren't even putting any effort forth anymore. At Disneyworld that Limo would've long been refurbished, redesigned, and reinstated, and the castle wouldn't have closed at all (Speaking of which, why did it close anyway?).

FYI: The DLR is powered by an electric turbine hooked up to Walt's coffin, so every time he turns in his grave the energy is converted to electricity.

WALT: "California Adventure? What the hell is that? ROLLROLLROLL!!!"

the sleeping beauty castle walkhrough closed indefinetly shortly after the 9/11 attacks in hopes of a terrorist/saftey precaution. it was supposed to re-open when things settled down...my opinion on the closer is just the disney thought the attraction was to much upkeep and didnt want to waste time on such a minimal addition to the park.

as for the fact that rocket rods, people mover, skyway and sup area's are not being re-placed by other rides i still find that if disney wanted to remove a ride altogether (meaning take it completly away) then they should have done something with the space. but with sleeping beauty castle, rocket rods, skyway area, people mover area and the sub area...that space is just going to waste. i mean take a look at the sub lagoon. its about the ugliest site in the whole park...the clhorine has completly discolored all of the coral that was there and the sub station is nothing but a pile of rust. If you see my point, it seem like paul pressler was just in a mood to put in quick attractions that would easily attract guests. they didnt seem to care about the state of the other places where things were removed. AND (lol) if you havent noticed half of those attractions were removed from tommorrow land which was originally supposed to be like one super hightech area and now there is barely any reason to travel to that section of the park. did you know that disney only spent 90 million dollars on all of tommorrowlan but spent a whopping 110 million on the idiana jones ride alone? Anyway, i just hope that DL and starts going back up hill, with attractions that are quality (not crappy like superstar limo DCA) , one's that walt would have appreciated. i Still love disneyland and i can still feel the magic, but it seems to me like disney is only into the money making aspect anymore, not the more important stuff like happy guests and quality attractions (not that there arent some of those) of course i think we can see huge changes with the new president of DL, matt! and i can bet you that once micheal Eisner is out of there things will be better then they have in a loooooonnnggg time!

just my point of view...i dont care if yall agree with me! :)

Shucks, just another thing to add to my "Things I never got to do in life" list. I don't recall ever going on (in?) the walkthrough, unless I was quite young, and in that case the "I don't recall" statement remains in effect.

What was the walkthrough, and what would the upkeep have entailed?

There were dioramas with dolls portraying scenes from the movie "Sleeping Beauty". I'd guess the dolls were 16" high but someone else will correct that if it is wrong.

The dioramas were glassed in. They'd have to be dusted periodically and the passageway kept free of trash, etc. That's the upkeep, as far as I can tell.

Where did you "walk" through? Was it behind the Princess Store, the Heraldry...? I can't get a picture in my head as to where they would have another area in the castle.

You walked up stairs, through the second story, and came down the other side. It was a very small, narrow passageway.

Underneath the drawbridge entrance, I think.
And I thought this was really more of an disability accessibility issue. (Stairs only, small walk-through space, nooks and crannies, etc.)

You took stairs up? I guess it's been a long time since I've even seen the entrance to this.

Hmmm, a small, narrow passageway, in a castle? Sounds like a great make-out location. Why the heck didn't I discover this when I was a teenager?!?! :D

Mostly because of all the people behind you that were shoving you to get out of the way. Good make out places are NOT in the way of many people. Pirates on the other hand was a good place /whistle.

The magic mirror trick halfway up was fun.

To find the old entrance. Enter the castle from the hub. The moment you exit the castle itself (About 20' in) look to the left. See that one painted door to the left of the exit to frontierland? It's covered by a trash bin. That's it. Look to the right and you can see the exit. Looks similar. Though it is very true that this particular ride isn't very ADA. But neither is the Disney gallery. Or Tarzan's Treehouse. So I don't think the old ADA clause works here.

That's it Merm8fan! You found the secret make out spot of the CM's! Or Walt's new Club 34 :)

But neither is the Disney gallery. Or Tarzan's Treehouse. The Disney Gallery is accessible through the Club 33 kitchen elevator. Trazan's has a wheelchair accessible activity area on the ground.

Woo-hoo! Thanks, Forbin!

I'll look for the trashcan-concealed door on my next visit. (Kind of like my very own "Discover the Magic" tour...)

Before the castle closed, my girls would make us walk through it at least 5 times a trip. My oldest is going to be very upset that it's a goner. I still haven't gotten over the subs being gone. Watching it sit there and mold is liking rubbing salt in a wound. Put me out of my misery already.

Do you (or anyone) know how to get access to this? My dad would absolutely *love* to get up there!

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread.....

I'm SOOO SAD :crying: That was one of my fav attractions! That my favorite movie. I know it wasn't much but its one of the few things that was dedicated to Sleeping Beauty. Good thing castle will never go.

I notice on the refurb schedule on this site that the castle was going to be closed down from mid- july until august. What do they mean? Are we not going to be able to walk through the drawbridge? Or are they going to have those ugly tarps around the castle? When exactly are they closing it? I'm taking "out-of-towners" to DL in July and it will be pretty disappointing to have DL world-know symbol covered in a big bedsheet as we are waling down Main Street. :(

Do you (or anyone) know how to get access to this? My dad would absolutely *love* to get up there! It depends on what you mean by "up there."

If you mean the Disney Gallery, the entrance for visitors who can not climb the 20-or-so steps to the front door is via a service elevator. Ask any cast member in the Le Bat en Rouge store in New Orlean's Square for assistance, and they will either escort you themselves, or call someone from the Disney Gallery to assist you.

You board the elevator just off the courtyard between Le Bat en Rouge and Pieces of Eight - the elevator door is "hidden" behind another wood door. When you reach the upper level, you'll walk about 6 steps through the incredibly tiny Club 33 prep kitchen, and out onto a balcony walkway. You then enter the Disney Gallery through the back door.

When you want to leave the Gallery, another cast member must escort you back down to ground level. There is no opportunity for a "tour" of the kitchen - you walk in, you walk out. This is a prep kitchen, and it's tiny. I've seen larger shower stalls. Did I mention it's tiny? There is BARELY enough room for two people and a wheelchair. If there is anyone working in there, you will be in their way, so the CMs will whisk you in and out as fast as they can to avoid blocking the flow of traffic any more than necessary.

If you mean "up there" as in Club 33, then I can't help you. You must be a member, or the guest of a member, to dine there, and they don't give kitchen tours to day guests.

AVP,
Thank you so much for that information!! Sorry for not being clear, I meant to the Disney Gallery. His mobility is severely impaired and he hasn't been to go up or down stairs for many years, making visiting the Gallery or doing anything upstairs, (i.e. the Fantasmic Balcony) inaccessible to him. I'm sure once he knows that it is even a possibility, he'll be delighted!!

This still makes me so sad. That was my tradition since I was a little girl--to walk through Sleeping Beauty Castle right before I left the park. I used to pretend I was Princess Aurora in her own castle...lol.

I snuck a peek in there the other day with a techie CM. I couldn't go through the whole thing as I was working a Grad Nite, but I found out that some of the figurines in the dioramas are STILL MOVING.

The whole closure is the security issue. And probably the disability thing too, but the Treehouse is the same problem. It's mostly the security and the worry that someone could plant something inside the castle in that walkthrough area.

What I wouldn't give to see it come back. Superbarf Limo can rot. Hahaha.

The castle was pretty abandoned at night just after the fireworks...unfortunately I was single at the time, so I went up there to think...God, I was a loser.

I just got the greatest idea for a thread...

That's gotta be creepy...it's dark...and the figures are still moving after 2 years no maintenance...

Lets call it Tower of Terror 2 and call all the Diaramas Talking Tina...

'My name is Talking Aurora and you WILL buy my dolls'.
