Yes it is true. As of 6/20/04 there will no longer be any DL security officer posted at KCML gate. The gate will be open for all who wish to park in the lot. Nobody will check for DL ID anymore and grant permission to park there. I believe that DL is forgetting about the safety of our CM and guests since the cuts are still an ongoing problem with security along with our contract which is under negiotation and DL is offering a pathetic contract but it's another story in itself.
Security at the gate which alot of CM dont realize is that they had to turn away the repo man on many occasions for trying to take your vehicle while your at work.

Sorry to hear that, really.

Not to mention just general theft and assault probabilities going up now. :(

Just a quick question.

Will there still be security that will patrol the lot? Because if not, I'll find myself parking in the Lion King Lot. :)

I know as of now, you have one at the gate, and at least one more on patrol in the lot.

Hey Beavis,
Do you work at Disneyland? Where did you get this information? I have not heard anything about this at all. IF there is no security gard at the cast member lot then they will have to have some way for us to get in with our ID's and a gaurd gate to keep the public from parking in there. To me this just not make any sense at all. I am not saying this is a lie I just think there is more to the story.

Okay, that part just made me laugh! Disney should have been letting the repo guys into the lot all along. Maybe just escort them in to the specific vehicle but certainly allow them to take back the property that now legally belongs to them.

Couldn't they install an automatic gate that is activated by an employee ID? There are tens of thousands of employee parking lots and garages all over the country that control access to their employee lots that way, so why couldn't Disney do that? A human security gaurd standing at the entrance to an employee lot checking ID's is extremely rare in the 21st century.

Disney should get with the times and install automatic gates operated by a bar code or magnetic stripe, and save the labor hours for something that satisfies the customers instead of wasting labor to satisfy employees who don't make their car payments.

That's why when you enter the lot you goto the left and the bus goes to the right so that the RT&P can sit in the kisok and not be alert. Who will turn the AP's away now at the gate or the repo guy or the one that wants to car jack you ???

Oddly enough, when I went to work today, for the first time ever, there was no security guard at the entrance to K-lot (KCML), however there were 2 security cms driving around the lot in their cars. By the time I got off, there was one. Was it a coincidence, or is what Beavis saying true and happening immediately?

I do hope they fix the entrance now that they have the split with cars going to the left and the shuttle to the right. Yeah, I'm sure the security cm enjoys using the AC, but they should add some sort of remote control security gate where the shuttle goes so that all passenger cars have to drive by right next to the little kiosk and no APers will drive to the right and wave a yellow card to let them in.

How about an automatic gate activated by an ID card, like I mentioned above? You know, the type of automatic gate that is used in practically every private parking lot in America outside of a military installation?

I checked out the entrance to this "KCML" lot this afternoon. There are already automatic gates installed at the entrance, with the infrastructure in place so you can put your ID card up to a card reader of some sort. But they don't appear to be using those mechanicals at all, and the gates are kept in the raised position while a Disneyland Security gaurd stands there and looked very bored as he waved an endless stream of arriving CM vehicles through. The CM shuttle buses go through the same gates, but use a far right lane that also has an automatic gate and card reader that is not being used. Even the exits already have those little retractable spike strips that Disney loves to use with the "Do Not Back Up - Severe Tire Damage" signs.

This KCML lot is all set up to enter the 1980's and use the standard parking lot technology already in place. All they have to do is get rid of the 1940's style security gaurd waving through each individual vehicle. Why they didn't do this originally I have no idea, but I have a hunch it has to do with the Union and employing more people than they really need to do a menial task that can be handled by a machine.

Let the machines already in place take over this simple task and get that Security Gaurd back into the Park so he can find lost children and tell people when the parade starts.

Ya I agree TP2000 and maybe they'll put it in operation, but you'll also have somebody walking into the lot that just got off the city bus. How is anybody going to know if it's a CM or not without having security at the gate? With having security at the gate atleast they look and check for their ID to make sure that the CM has all right to be in the lot.

DCAwhites, maybe it was some kind of trial period. I'm sure if alot of CM's would show some concern that maybe they would rethink about removing the gate officer on the 20th.

The problem with using a gate is that KCML is where all CMs are told to park if they have lost their ID or hang tag for whatever reason. So in theory, anybody who has a convincing enough story could already park at KCML I suppose. Also, new CMs that have yet to pick up their IDs park there as well, so installing a gate and taking away the security guard would be keeping quite a few people from getting to work.

Also, at certain times during the day there can be quite a few people all trying to enter at once and a gate would most likely cause all that to back up onto Katella.

So do you want security at K lot or a RT&P cast member. Also its a great place to park for free if you are going to the park just hop on the shuttle who going to stop you the RT&P cast member.

I have nothing against RT&P cast members.

Dont Underestimate the RT&P CM they can enforce rules Use to do it when I worked out in the lot years ago

Please...if someone wanted to park for free in K-lot, they could do it fairly easily no matter if it were a security CM or a RT&P CM. Once you get past the entrance it would be a piece of cake for someone to simply blend in to the masses of cars already in there. Even more so if they were driving a common car.

Actually, there are much better places to park for free..... For instance the Fairfield or the big lot behind Mimi's Cafe. I park there a lot when I need to pop in to the Park, but don't want to deal with the official Disney lots. You can also park in the "15 Minute Parking" off of Harbor Blvd. for long stretches of time. In the past few years I have parked in that lot for up to two hours and not had so much as a chalk stripe on my rear tire. They obviously don't check that lot for people staying longer than "15 Minutes". And then of course there is the free 3 hour parking at Downtown Disney, with a convenient monorail to whisk you straight into Tomorrowland.

While I am sure there are a few people who would want to park in that KCML lot for some bizarre reason, there are far more convenient and closer "free" parking lots around Disneyland.

Of course, simply turning on the automatic gates and card readers they already have installed at KCML would go a long way in preventing street thugs, Al Qaeda terrorists, and Premium Annual Passholders from getting in to that parking lot.

I'm not quite so sure about that. ;)

My Club 33 member friend once drove us to Disneyland and he drove down Walnut behind the Disneyland Hotel to the Cast parking gate back there, rolled down his window and said, "Watch this"...swiped his Club 33 card and up went the gate! Wave to the man in the booth. Same on the exit. He said, "You could probably swipe your library card and it would work!"

That's pretty funny. When I worked at Club 33 in the late 90's there was a card slot just to the left of the front door. When the club was open, you could stick any card in that slot and the door would unlock.

I don't feel guilty saying that because the door has to be "On" for it to work.
If the Club is not open, that trick won't work.

Yep. That's probably still true. What was even funnier in the old days before the Club cards had bar codes put on them, was that the cards had the words "Insert Here" and an arrow indicating it might be important that you insert the card into the slot that particular way. When in fact it made no difference whatsoever. Just part of the "show." :)

it should be clarified that there will still be an officer patrolling the lot in a vehicle unit, and they will still put an officer at the "toll booth" on weekends because of the problems KCML has with illegal parking from The Booie night club located about a block west of the lot.
