The restaurant strategy for Downtown Disney, which is adjacent to Disneyland and California Adventure and part of the Disneyland Resort, has been evolving to address the needs of families like the Violetts since the center opened in 2001. More casual eateries with counter service, faster turnaround and lower prices are gradually being added to the mix to balance the full-service, high-concept restaurants.
"There was a clear void there," said restaurant consultant Randall Hiatt, president of Fessel International in Costa Mesa. "My guess is that they could go a lot further and continue to add that kind of option."

Further proof that Eisner's original concept for the DtD/DCA addition to Disneyland was wrong, wrong and, oh yeah, just plain WRONG.

Read the whole article. It doesn't even come close to reaching that conclusion. It does indicate that the offerings at Downtown Disney are evolving somewhat in order to meet a wider range of needs, but the overall conclusion is that the complex is a huge success.

If anyone (including Disney) expected everything in the massive resort complex to be absolutely correct and a smashing success right out of the box, that was a very naive viewpoint. The type of evolution that is going on at Downtown Disney (and at DCA) is really fairly natural and should have been expected.

That isn't to say that they didn't clearly make some mistakes in the initial mix of offerings at the complex that shouldn't have been avoided. I genuinely think they did. The overall point, though, is that the concept really is very sound and has been pretty steadily trending towards higher levels of success.
