The attraction was closed at Disneyland when Tomorrowland was "re-done" into ickyland. We lost a whole slew of great rides in that sad make-over.

Oooo old Mission to Mars...Honestly I thought Captain EO was better than Mission to Mars. Though I don't think much of Honey I shrunk the audience which is currently there. Or the Pizza place that is in the exact spot of Mission to Mars.

Mission to the Moon closed because it became outdated when the US actually did land on the moon. They replaced it with Mission to Mars, and that was closed to make room for a restaurant.

Actually, Mission to Mars closed a long time before the Tomorrowland redo started...

It was tied to the opening of ToonTown... And was directly related to labor costs, the CM's hours for Mission to Mars, and a couple of other older attractions were transferred to the new ToonTown operations....

Mission to Mars closed in 1992, and The Tomorrowland redo was 1997....

As far as the WDW attraction goes, that became the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which has itself now closed to become Stitch's Great Escape, opening this fall.

More WDW info:
Flight to the Moon (http://home.cfl.rr.com/omniluxe/fttm.htm) ran from 1971-1975.
Mission to Mars ran from 1975-1993.
ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter ran from 1994-2003. (Not counting the short-lived original version that was open briefly in 1993.)
Stitch's Great Escape will open in 2004.
