I know that HM was closed last week on the 17th and 18th for a refurb... Does anybody know what became of that? Were the bizarre exit lights replaced?

I rode last night. They're all still there, as blinding as ever.

They repaired the moving walkway ramp at the exit (the one that brings you pass Little Leota). Beyond that, it doesn't seem anything else was done.

I rode it last week, and I didn't think they were as bad as everybody is making them out to be. I mean atrocious, obviously, but I don't think that a firsttimer would even bat an eye. I only noticed one TIXE sign at the ballroom scene, and I really only saw one or two in the graveyard. At least there's none in the seance room. I think they're much worse on the Peter Pan ride.

Ahhhh. But there is. Right at the end of the room. You can see it when you are half way through.

Indeed there is. That's the most obvious one I noticed

I've ridden a few times since the installation of the exit signs. I won't go as far as to say that it ruined the entire ride for me, it definitely diminishes the enjoyment of certain sections of the ride a great deal. Most notably to me is the ballroom scene. I'm sure that most padders know how the effect is done in the ballroom by now, but the exit sign makes it far more blatant. Likewise, I think the outdoor/graveyard scenes suffer, by killing the illusion that you are outside and calling attention to the walls.

I am happy that the moving sidewalk at the exit is working again though. I'm pretty surprised at how long that was down for.

slw, its based on a very old stage magician trick called a "peppers ghost illusion". Directly in front of you is a HUGE pane of glass, below the doombuggy track, and above it (in the ceiling above you) are the audio animatronics with lighting on them. The AA's are position in such a way with the lighting that they are reflected in the big pane of glass. Behind the pane of glass is the ballroom set, to add to the illusion, the AA characters are positioned in such a way as to look like they are interacting with that the ballroom set props (sitting behind a table, dancing on the floor, hanging on a chandelier etc). Extra little trivia that most people already know :D somebody in the (70s?) shot a hole in the pane of glass with a BB gun, they had to disguise it as a spiderweb because in order to replace the pane supposedly they would have to lift off part of the Haunted Mansion roof due to the enormous size of the pane of glass. (not sure I fully buy that, though it would be quite a pain to replace the pane ;) ).

The relevance of the exit signs reflecting here is therefore that they are being reflected in that big pane of glass in front of you.

If you want to learn how practically all of the mansion operates I highly recommend a wonderful site that has more on the Haunted Mansion than you ever wanted to know: www.doombuggies.com

I was just at the resort and I went on Haunted 9-10 times as I am what you would call a huge fan as seen by my name. I noticed the exit signs but they really did not bother me. I try to block out all those types of things while riding, the one thing that does iritate me is that there are so many different types of exits signs and by that I mean some are bright some are dim some are in a bit of both. Whats the deal, I just want them to be all the same.

I HATE THOSE SIGNS. I just went on the ride and they are totally ruining it. Even on the darn ramp going into the graveyard there was one there. I wouldn't mind them if they were dimmed A LOT.

Actually. Two other things are now different in the Haunted Mansion.
In "The Art Corridor"; two of the changing portraits are different.

The second to the last one: "The Ghost Ship" (Ship (http://www.grimghosts.com/art/ship1.jpg) & Wreck (http://www.grimghosts.com/art/ship2.jpg)) is now facing the opposite direction! Why, I don't know.

The last one: "Pretty Miss April". The months in the upper right corner are now gone. The months were "December (http://www.grimghosts.com/art/april2.jpg)" (for the old lady) and "April (http://www.grimghosts.com/art/april1.jpg)" (for the young lady).

Actually, now that I look at the pictures, I'm not 100% sure about the direction of the ship. But, I am alomst positive that the months are gone.
I will check on Thursday (5/27) and update. (Unless someone else can comfirm it sooner.)

Has the mausoleum across from where you exit the doom buggy always been there?

As surprising as it may sound, we only noticed it a couple of months ago. Then again, I almost always catch something new at the park every time I visit.

I'm like you... everytime I'm there I say to myself "has that always
been there" then I feel like a dork when I do share it out loud and
the people I'm with look at me funny - as if to say "have you been
blind for the past 30 years?"
