There was a lot of talk about the subject when it closed rather abruptly in April 2002. Here are some threads you should check out (I searched in the DL forum on "space closed"):

Space is set to open in November 2005 (with the usual Disney disclaimers attached, of course.)

It was announced that Space Mountain was closed at 10:30am on Thursday April 10th of 2003 NOT 2002. I know because I was there that week for the opening of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

I heard that Space Mountain was going to be ready June 2005. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I have been to Disneyland in Anaheim 6 times now (big deal i hear you say but I do live in Scotland so I have an excuse) and have never been on Space Mountain as it has never been open any time I have been - I will next be there in September 04, December 04, January 05 and April 05 - so another 4 times and I still won't have been on it - I feel a certain pride now - like it is some sort of record. :fez: When it doesn't open it will be a completely new attraction for me  :D

Tutter, do you come here to California on business? You sound like you commute back and forth quite a bit. I hope you get to visit other places as well.

No - my partner lives in El Monte. I do go to Disneyland Paris quite a bit though and yes, i do get to visit lots of other countries (with my work so it's okay hehehehe).

I have to say out of all the countires I have ever been (and that is a lot) there is no place I love more that California. And of course - the original Disneyland.

November!?! That wont be untill the end of the 50th celebrationDoes anybody on here agree with me that it's pathetic the way Disney is claiming this is part of the 50th? The ride had two accidents in the months before its sudden closing. From what was written on the internet the ride was already due for a major overhaul. Now they're using a ride coming out of rehab as a new attraction. Consider that Space Mtn. was not at Disneyland 50 years ago on opening day, but Circlevision and Jungle Cruise were. Why not reopen a new version of those for the 50th? Instead the majestic Circlevision is replaced by a cheap dark ride and Jungle Cruise stays the same. I don't see a problem with marketing the new Space Mtn. as a reason to come to Disneyland, but really, it has nothing to do with the 50th. I don't know, what do you guys think?

If it's going to reopen during the 50th, then it's part of the 50th. I don't look at SM as any kind of heritage thing. But with the way Tomorrowland has been lately, the opening of ANY ride there is cause for celebration. They have so little to crow about for the 50th, thanks the the shortsightedness of their predecessors, that I don't begrudge them anything in an attempt to build a little excitement.

it was 2002 wasn't it?

The shut down Space Mountain Spring 2003 - they planned to close it for 2 years to refurb for the 2005 celebration. I never heard about the actual grand re-opening date, but they planned it for 2005 . :crying:
