After nearly 5 years, Disneyland Railroad No. 5, Ward Kimball is set to be completed, apparently in time for DL's 50th. The engine, acquired from Cedar Point in 1999, is a 1902 Baldwin 2-4-4 similar in appearance to DLRR No. 3. Several steam railroad shop facilites are bidding on the job, but word is that the Tweetsie Railroad, a North Carolina tourist line with the necessary facilites for the work, is leading the pack.
This is indeed good news, but several Roundhouse CM's are disappointed that the work is being sent out. This in fact does go against stated company policy that all major work would now be done in-house.
After No. 5 is completed, No. 3 will then be sent out for her re-build.
