These apparently have sold out after only a couple days. Of course they're all over eBay like crazy for 4X the park price. We're going next Sunday evening plus Monday and Tuesday. Have any of you local AP's that frequent the park heard if they will be getting any more?

Honestly not surprised. Even with the fact of it being known Disney could ban you from the parks for reselling it shows it won't stop those that do it (love the ones using the park as their backdrop ). I haven't been recently but I think once those sell out that is it. I could be wrong but usually isn't that how it goes with the AP ones that they do the $1 refills on? I do know this was one popcorn bucket I was not thrilled with the look of. I like the other 2 better...especially the Minnie one. I do feel bad for those that wanted just one of the Steamboat Willie one bucket though.
BTW, when I was looking at the prices, I saw one from Tokyo and have to say that one is a lot cuter.

1 of the earliest sellers sold 37 in 2 days. They we're only asking 2X the park price plus shipping so they went fast. How the heck do you buy that many in such a short period of time and not get noticed?

I agree. That many in a short time should be noticed. Especially considering they would be hauling them through the park. I don't know if there was a limit on how many per pass but even when there is the limit if one has friends/family join them and each buys that max amount per pass it can add up fast, sadly. SMH

They actually sold out on the first day. They went on sale Friday morning, and I think I saw Disneyland's post come through around 7:30pm that they were sold out. I thought they said they were expecting more but didn't have details about when.

I saw people who posted screenshots of that. I presumed that the seller was putting them up for sale before necessarily having possession of them, in anticipation of getting their supply from whomever was supplying them. I figure they sold the products and if they didn't have enough actual product, they'd just refund the money for the rest of the people. I know that when Disneyland used to have special events and they included merchandise items that were on a lottery system, people were putting things for "sale" before people even knew whether they got them through the lottery system.

It was supposed to be one per pass per transaction but people could get back in line/get in another line to buy more.

I don't look to often at this point but I do remember when there was a lot of those "presale" type auctions on ebay. Those sellers would have so many up too. It was pretty crazy at times with some of those events.
And thanks for answering about the limit. They don't scan the AP I take it to keep track, do they? I've never bothered doing the AP buckets. Most just didn't interest me and while its a good deal to bring it back for a buck refill, I just wouldn't want to drag it back with me. LOL If they are going to limit Disney really should limit them as one per pass and that is it. Not one per transaction. Obviously it wouldn't mean they wouldn't sell out still in 1 day but would give some more a chance of buying one that aren't out to resell.

They don't scan the AP I take it to keep track, do they? They actually do scan the pass (I stood in line for an hour on Friday to buy mine), so I don't know why they don't limit the number PER PASS through the online system to allow anyone with a valid pass to buy one BEFORE they can sell out on the first day. The lines were long throughout the day at the various carts and I saw several people with multiple buckets...they could have been holding them all for the rest of their party, but not necessarily!
We felt sorry for the people who just wanted popcorn and no bucket. :)

cstephens is exactly right about that screenshot floating around last week that showed 30+ sold, it was likely someone engaging in "pre-orders" for what they expected to have/sell. This is not allowed on ebay, you have to have physical possession of what you have to sell but it's not really cracked down on unless it's flagged by multiple sources.
I was watching social media all day on Friday and according to the boxes there should've been 30k of these. I don't think they sold all 30k in one day. I would imagine some of it was held to sell on future releases. I also saw a lot of complaints over the weekend about the quality control on these, sloppy paint apps and dents and dings, lots of people were saying that it was the way the cast members were treating them, throwing them in boxes or the way they were being stored but in the end it sounded like it may have been sloppy manufacturing?
I am coming down this weekend and hope they make a reappearance but not optimistic as it seems from seeing last years releases it seems pretty random. If someone by chance has an extra they'd like to sell please let me know. I will be in town Fri - Sun.
I saw a lot of gripes about the 1 per person limit and why aren't passes scanned without people reading the not-so-fine (meaning pretty obvious) print that it was one per person per transaction. Nothing stopping anyone from getting in line as many times as they could. Also a lot of people thinking that these people who bought multiples having their AP's revoked without realizing that these people have to be caught in the act of reselling. Folks who are selling anonymously on Craigslist, Facebook, LetGo, etc. aren't going to have anything happen to them, it would be too time consuming and costly for Disney to try to track them down. It's the big personal shoppers, bulk buyers, folks that have businesses who operate solely for reselling merch, have their eBay accounts directly tied to their name and address that correspond to their AP's who are going to get revoked and that number is going to be small within the context of all AP holders. Folks expecting them to see a grand purge of AP's are going to be disappointed and further complain on the internet without taking into account that Disney is doing what they can, within reason, to crack down but it's never going to eradicate the resellers as long as there is market and demand for these items. It's just part of the game unfortunately.

I would think that if they are scanning AP's upon purchase, limiting the amounts would not be that hard to implement. Tells me they are afraid they might not meet sales goals if they did so.

Thanks for that answer on scanning APs with it. There is no reason why then they couldn't stop an APer from getting more then one by doing that. It should pop up saying they were at max limit when trying to buy again. SMH

Those that presold have always been doing it for as long as I have been on ebay. Its always been annoying but yet ebay obviously doesn't care about that and a few other things that have gone on over the years (fraud bidders, bidders using other ebay members info for fraud bidding, etc).
And you are right that as long as there are those that will pay the insane prices on these items, the more it will keep going. I've said that for many years now. There will always be people that "must have" an item right then and there no matter price for whatever reason. I don't know how much of this stuff is sold on sites that would be a little harder to track a person but I can imagine its mostly done in a way that its to get the money from the ones not near the parks. So it would be easy to track the sellers on ebay, facebook or their own site compared to ones like craigslist. Yet the issues is here if they don't really crackdown there is going to be some MAJOR problems come Star Wars land merchandise. Obviously there is no way to get all of those doing this and it should be more to deal with the bulk/personal shoppers....but they do need to try to get some sort of handle on it that they should have done many years ago. This just shows they are not doing a good job of it if they don't literally limit the numbers by having it show when the AP is scanned to buy another that it already bought max number of item(s) and turn them away. That would help some I am betting.
I am not surprised on the buckets looking a certain way. It happens from time to time with them I've noticed. As for them holding any for future sale, I kind of doubt it. They don't seem to generally do that sort of thing. We have seen it in the past happen with other items that were not limited in numbers and Disney saying more would be on the way. With this type of item though usually once its gone its gone.
BTW, those that believe there could be some big purge of APs over this are obviously delusional. You are right that the number doing the reselling is probably small compared to what some may think....more so considering how many APs there are.

I don't know if that is the case but it would help keep stock in for at least a few days or so if they did it that way. Considering the offer of a $1 refill there are plenty that buy them just for that alone that go enough to take advantage of that. So I don't doubt they would have sold out still but it just wouldn't have happened in one day like it did.

I think as long as they sell them and make money and get the publicity and buzz they don't really care, and that's not a knock on them. People are still going to come and spend money regardless.

I'm not a programmer but it may not be as easy as that. I was talking to a friend over the weekend about how magic bands are used in different ways at WDW, and he was explaining the difference in how it registers in different places and how much information it's trying to read. It might be the same issue here. Having a system that only has to recognize whether an AP is valid is different than having to keep track of how much of a particular thing has been purchased with that AP.
With the AP buttons that are given out for various celebrations (e.g., Halloweentime, Food and Wine Festival), they do say limit of one per AP. I've never tried to get more than one, so I don't know if they actually keep track.

I think they do care though. Otherwise they wouldn't have already took steps to ban some that have been doing this. As well as the more that speak up and complain to them in parks/social media/etc about it going on and not being able to buy one of whatever item the more they have of unhappy guests in their eyes that might not bother in the future with buying certain items. Some people do get tired of trying to get an item and decide its not worth bothering when it happens that items sell out to fast. Sure Disney is still making money because of those reselling but at the same time with Star Wars land coming its not in the best interest of Disney to let those re-sellers get their hands on most of that merchandise. Heck I have seen people online get upset over the Dooney and Bourkes being gone in a day because of those people so I can't imagine what it would be like if you have a ton of Star Wars fans upset over not being able to get merchandise they wanted for themselves. I just know I have seen how some can get over action figures in stores and I just know I wouldn't want to make some of those people mad. LOL

I think Disney is just hoping that telling us that its one per AP is enough but when the APer reselling knows its just one during that transaction and they can get back in line to do it all over again then they will do so. Obviously most of us are not that way at all though and wouldn't think to do such things or try it even...but more so because most of us don't care to have more then one of whatever item. I think the only ones we ever get more then one of are the special AP buttons but we get the 1 per pass so we each have one. I really wouldn't want more then one of the AP buckets around here...if I was to get those. LOL

I believe with the AP buttons they are one per day. At least that's how it was when I went during Halloween time last year.

I don't mean that they don't care in a callous way, just that as long as these are being sold and people are following the guidelines, ie one per pass, per transaction, that's about all they care about. I was following this latest AP bucket release all over social media on Friday and so many people were complaining and generally the complaints fall on deaf ears. I know the cast members can't do anything and are just following orders but on the AP Facebook page there were hundreds of comments of people complaining and telling the same stories and it just doesn't go back to this release it's all of these exclusive AP, pins, Funko, etc. releases. The Dooney and Burke and Pandora charms are a good example. The collectors have been complaining about those releases for days but generally it's status quo from Disney. I think the crackdown on the resellers, sites, personal shoppers is a nice is a good little first step to try to combat the problem but it's not going to net a lot of revoked passes, as stated earlier, all someone has to do is sell anonymously, create a new eBay account that doesn't tie back to the name/address on their AP to avoid being caught.

I was there yesterday. I didn't see a single person using one for a refill. Even the alien, which also sold out quickly you'd see people getting refills. After a few hours I was surprised I hadn't seen one, so I really started looking out for them.
I wanted one, but I'm not interested in carrying around a novelty bucket to get refills. After seeing a lot of reports of the matte finish being scratched I'm not sure I really want one to keep. I'm thinking of paying some friends going to Japan for an extra checked bag and asking for one of the buckets from there.

Honestly I have seen cuter ones come out of Japan then from here. Like I said the Steamboat Willie one from Japan, was cuter then the one here. I thought the one here was just oddly done. The ear shape and hat length sort of turned me off it. I'm glad after reading how many issues there are with it. I thought the Elf Mickey one was terrible because the hat wouldn't stay latched on. LOL So wouldn't blame you if you did that with your friends.
BTW, I remember seeing a pretty decent amount of people in the parks with the Alien one too getting the $1 refills. So interesting that you didn't see this one. You would think there would be a few coming in. Will keep an eye out when we go this weekend and any other time we go before the promotion on refills ends.
Oh I was glancing to see what the end date on it was because I couldn't remember and under the page for it it says it was just one per person, per transaction. Not one per AP. So no wonder they were getting back in line over and over again when it really should have been 1 per AP. SMH

I saw lots of Alien buckets when I was last there in Nov. That one didn't interest me. I am sure this new one will make a reappearance at some point just wish we had some way of knowing more than a couple days in advance. Funny thing is I was actually supposed to come down last weekend but my plans changed last second and I rescheduled to this weekend. I knew the AP bucket release was February but had no idea it would be Feb 1
And yes that Japanese Steamboat Willie is so cute, I want one!

they limit the free friggin' buttons from AP corner all the time through scanning. You'd think they could do that with buckets too... Oh, wait, they make money on selling buckets so, no, lets not limit them too much.

They don't, though. When they've had them in both parks you could get a button in each park. And you can get a button every day. I suspect if you get one in the morning you'd be able to get another later in the day when the scanners are swapped too.

The Pixar Fest stickers as well as the Halloween buttons were all one Offs. The Holiday Magnet too. I'd try to get a second and the scanner would always say I got one already.

They are obviously able to keep track of our purchases when we have our APs scanned so I would bet its really not that hard to set things up to show your AP was used already for such item(s).
I know they track some things in the aggregate, but it was not my understanding that they keep track of what each individual AP purchases.
