Hello,

could someone please explain how Matt Ouimet got his "Cast Member Matt" nickname - I mean, I can guess that since he too is a DL Cast Member, and his first name's Matt, that one's pretty obvious, but I can't find that name listed as one of the MP profiles, and wonder if it is a facetious term, or if it is the accepted title to call him around Disneyland... after all Cynthia Harriss was referred to as either just Cynthia or Harrissss depending on whether you were saying something nice or naughty about her.

Cheers, Mouseketeers !
Rob.

PS: Matt, if you DO read this, can you please send me a picture to send_me_mail@iprimus.com.au for inclusion on the Padders Pictures Page. Thanks !

Thanks for the picture, David. It's good to put a name to the face.

...I only hope that doesn't ruin my chance of getting a personal email from Matt ;) :D

Cheers,
Rob.

I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong, which is entirely possible :geek: ) that the main reason he has gotten the nickname of Cast Member Matt is because of the fact that he isn't a Resort President who sits up in his office in a suit looking down on the park and thinks he knows what needs to be done. You can find him on any random day in the park, going through, seeing what needs to be fixed, picking up trash(!), and getting things done. There is so much refurb work going on because he sees a need, and he tries to meet it.

That's what I've gotten. :)

Actually, sediment gave him that nickname at the beginning of this year. I had posted that I had seen Matt walking in the park one day and sediment replied,

"I'm going to work under the assumption that any changes being made have been approved by Cast Member Matt (and I will call him this as a badge of honor)."

So, credit goes to sediment. :fez:

I plead guilty to creating the nickname. (It might take some research to prove it, though.)
I don't work at DL. Just a disinterested fanatic.

Quite the opposite of a put-down, I consider it the ultimate compliment. I would never dream of adding the prefix to Harriss, Pressler, Eisner, Irby, or even Rasulo (although it can be earned by Jay if he fights for a favorable DLR budget).

You don't want just any person running the DLR. You want a Cast Member to be in charge. And not one of those, "Well, all the company's employees are considered 'Cast Member,' so I guess I am a 'Cast Member,'" Cast Members.

Can we consider calling Greg Emmer Cast member Greg? I mean I have heard reports of him actually walking through the park with a radio, solving problems and cleaning up, etc.

Kudos to Sediment :)

Well, it's a long process to gain this status, though. Lots of paperwork. We'll need testimonials, etc.

Consider it done!

Whats is Gregs official status in the company and what exactly does he do? You hear about him so much.

He's the equivilent level of "T" Irby (whats his real name, anyways). "T" is the Senior vice president of resort support (maintance and Security), Greg Emmer Is the Senior vice president of Operations (Attractions, Custodial, Guest Services, Hotels, Shops, and Foods). There also is a senior vice president of Entertainment I believe (Anne Hamburger  ). Anyways, Greg actually took over direction of Custodial and Attractions, away from "T". Whats nice about Greg is that he was at one point in his life a Actual front line cast member and earned his way up through the company (unlike pretty much everyone else who's a former Military Commander or Mall guru).

Basically he's Matt Ouimet's right hand man.

It is so good to hear that a person in Cast Member Matts position takes the time to walk the parks. Did anyone ever see the troll Pressler walking the parks on a regular basis? I have read different accounts on the web about average people visiting the park and having a chance to meet CM Matt, and they all say the same thing, that he is very pleasant and cordial, and that he is always very interested in what they have to say. Finally, it seems that we have someone who cares about Dland again.:D

Well, I'm impressed ! I know it's a cliche, but it IS good to see someone taking the "What Would Walt Do" stance and following it through !

Well done to Cast Member Matt, and thank you sediment for a fitting title ! :fez:

I met "Cast Member Matt" on one of the nights of the cast member christmas parties. He came up to all the ticket takers and introduced himself as follows " hi my name is matt and I am a new cast member" So cast member matt is a good title for him.

By the way Harriss used to pick up trash when she walked around as well.

I really wonder how long it will be before the more cynical types in the online community turn on Matt Ouimet, just like they did on Cynthia Harriss, who was also hailed as some kind of a hero when she first took the position.

Ouimet seems to have some good ideas (although I think he needs to find some better advisors on issues relating to accommodation of disabilities) and the feedback from those that have had a chance to meet him does suggest that he may have some good attitudes towards the park.

He is still running a business, though, and is still going to have to let that guide his decisionmaking. I honestly have serious doubts that any executive can run the park with the total disregard for profits and expense-control that some online seem to want.

Well, I do reserve the right to "fire" Cast Member Matt should he turn into Pressler or Harriss.

(I'll bet that trash she picked up was preplaced by an underling.)

Saw CM Matt today. He swung by Coke Corner this afternoon and did a turn through the surrounding buildings. Rod had some great things to say about him. Namely:

1) He doesn't let the other execs, plaids or security "escort" him through the park. He walks around alone.

2) Sometimes he does it in plain clothes. Baseball cap, sunglasses, etc. IOW, as a guest

3) *point removed because, while it's an EXCELLENT recommendation of his ability to do his job, spreading this information could be problematic.* Let's just say that he tries to find out what guests really think ;) ... incognito.

He also reportedly seems to be looking for managers who will tell him the real truth about what's going on in the park, not people who give him the glossy pages version of events. And many mgrs have already gotten the axe for not being that kind of person.

All in all (and yes, I heard more), he seems to be deserving of his new title. A fellow padder I was speaking with today wondered aloud if he was aware that people were calling him Castmember Matt. I don't know, honestly, but I hope he is :) It's not a title we bestow lightly (and you may remember that I actually like Harriss, though she didn't live up to the promise of her first few months, You cannot say she didn't improve the park from the Pressler years. She just didn't improve it enough - wasn't in her skill set.)

You mean.....all this time.....I've been quoting sediment?!

:D

I have to admit, this was a stroke of genius on your part, and it has spread like wildfire. Let's hope it does make it's way to CM Matt's mouse -ears. :D

Maybe you should visit other boards and plant the seeds there as well....unless it's already made it around the net.

I think I've done more than enough, CP. I wouldn't want to overmarket it to death.

Yeah, it's already making it's way around the net! I've heard it in many places, and that's why I didn't know to give credit to sediment in this thread. :)

Again, it is very encouraging to see CM Matt doing these things. I understand Harris had early promise, but she was really a Pressler lackey that drank his cool aid, and we all see where and how she turned out to be. Wonder how many CM's and managers were caught unaware by CM Matt as he walked the park incognito? I love it. Now we'll have to see if he will be able to accomplish all he wants, or will Eisner tie his hands. Best thing Eisner can do to survive is to allow CM Matt to have his way, and to fix Dland to its true glory.
As for the rest of the net calling him CM Matt, who cares, everyone knows Mouseplanet is the only true site of any importance.:p
