Any locals have any insight on this hotel. How's the area. What restaurants are nearby?

Without traffic, you are about 20-25 minutes north of Disneyland - straight down the I-5. With traffic (5:00 any weeknight) and you are looking at 90 minutes and frayed nerves.

While I have never stayed overnight at this hotel (I live not too far away), I have been there for a few conferences and meetings. It is a nice hotel with good amenities. The restaurant and bar are good (the bar is very small, but cozy).

The hotel is located in the Citadel. Its an old Firestone tire factory that was gutted (they kept the wonderful facade) and revitalized. In addition to the hotel, there is also a factory outlet mall. Not anything major, but there are a few shops (I know there is a fabric store that my wife goes to). Last time I was there, there was several small chain type fast food places (Sbarro, a burger place, a mexican place, etc.). Nothing to write home about, but decent for a quick meal.

There is also a good steak place on the other side of the 5 from the hotel. It is called Steven's. Its about the only decent restaurant in the area.

Good Luck!

Yeah..Kevy is correct on all counts..this is NOT a resort area and unless you have free night vouchers or something, there'd be no reason whatsoever to stay here if your primary goal is to vacation at Disneyland. The hotel itself is nice, but the location dictates that it's probably only there for business travelers.

It's a very industrial area. The outlet mall is okay and there's a cheesy casino down the street. I agree about not walking alone at night. If you can go south I would do it.

You're better off staying in the surrounding cities: Buena Park, Orange, Garden Grove, Stanton, Tustin are just some of the cities around that are MUCH better than Commerce!

When I posted, I just figured you were coming out on business and needed to be in the area. If your purpose is to come to DLR, then this is not a good choice.

If you want, PM me for help and/or suggestions.

The reason we selected that location the first 3 nights of our stay was because it's reasonably close to Universal and the Hollywood areas yet mid way to Disney. Then we would stay in the Buena Park area for the remainder of our stay. Another option would have been for us to stay in the Van Nuys area at a Holiday Inn Express off of 405 and Roscoe blvd I believe. Would that be a better area? Hard to beat the 67 bucks a night at the Wyndham though. We won't be walking around at night. Just looking for somethin ez on and ez off the interstate.

Oh boy - 405 and Roscoe ain't exactly upper class, either..lol...but since it's on a very busy street, you should be OK as long as you stay in the room.

Nope. Too far to be considered reasonably close to Universal. The way LA traffic works is: if you have to pass downtown, it's a long way away (the traffic going towards downtown is horrible from any direction). If you want to go to Universal, you need to stay north of downtown. If you want to go to DL, stay south of downtown. If you're only staying in one place for the whole trip, stay close to the place you'll be at the most and resign yourself to a few extra minutes driving the one day that you visit the other place. Trust me on this one.

Only good think I can say about the 405 and Roscoe, or Van Nuys in general, is that it has a Tommy's just west of the freeway.

Stay in Burbank if you can't find a place in Studio City, OR consider staying somewhere in west LA, Santa Monica, Venice Beach if you want to visit Hollywood. Those will be a bit of a trek up to USH though. Burbank is a decent bet as far as having great amenities nearby (ask the hotel how close they are to IKEA and the big shopping area - it's Burbank's night spot), but you'll be north of everything there. Nice thing is, you can pop down the 5 or 170 depending on where you want to go.

Sounds great guys but the closer I get to Universal or Burbank you are talking an extra 40 or so clams a night.
How's the Arcadia area? There is a reasonable Hampton Inn located there.

I would suggest if it is more than 2 miles MAX from where you want to go, pass on it. The $0 is nothing compared to the potential mess a two or three hour traffic jam at rush hour because somebody crashed something on an already conjested freeway. The rule of thumb is stay off the freeway from 7a-9a and again from 4p-7p. If you have to take the freeway at these times to get from your hotel, make other plans.

The Commerce Casino isn't cheasy - so long as you are into playing 5 card Texas Holdem. Most of the finest players in the world play there. Definately not for amatuers. Don't expect the Venitian either. I wouldn't recomend staying there on your vacation to US or DL, it's just too far away.

Arcadia is too far away by a longshot for what you are trying to do.
