I was just curious if anyone here is a musician at Disneyland or knows anyone who is. I'm specifically interested in how it pays, who is in charge of hiring musicians, what the requirements are, that kind of stuff.

As a long-time musician, it has always been a fantasy of sorts to land a job playing there. Any information at all would be appreciated.

Hmm, lost of views and yet no responses. Perhaps I should ask Rod the next time I'm there. ;)

According to the musicians (BB) I know, they make a fair amount, but it took them a long time to get past the *probation/trying out* status, to where they qualified for anything other than temp status. I believe to be a musician you have to belong to some musician's union too, but he could have just meant that HIS band belongs to some musicians union. Most of them seem to have other gigs besides DL, so I guess it's not something to base your life on. Sorry this isn't more informative, but I hope this helps you somewhat. Try asking some of them sometime. They could give you more insight and info than google can.

The primary thing to keep in mind is that the musicians at Disneyland are union members who are making the standard rate for the musician's union. Since it's a REGULAR gig with regular hours, the pay gets all the more lucrative. How many full-time musicians do YOU know?

That said, one has to be extraordinarily good to be hired on as a full-time musician there, and I suspect that turnover is very low. And I rarely see very young musicians in the marching band, etc. -- They are all seasoned musicians with lots of experience.

Motorboat Cruiser, you can also contact Shoshana Lewin, our Cast Place editor. She might be able to get some more info for you.

Thank you Lani and everyone else for your information.

Just a quick question, what would be the best way to contact Shoshana Lewin?

I suppose Dr. Arthur C. Bartner (USC Marching Band director) might also be worth contacting, as he directs the College band in the summer. You might be able to ask him questions about how to go about doing it, and thus avoid calling Disney - but the downside is you have to deal w/USC's phone system

speaking of musicians, what happened to that younger guy who used to play the piano with rod a looong time ago? i remember him being there around the time i was in college, but then he mysteriously disappeared. i didn't have a pass then, so i must have missed his departure. he was really smiley. :)

he used to go to the same gym as me! i'd see him almost every night around 10:30 (if he wasn't working, that is). he was smiley there, too! :)

He's still on the rolls, but only works as a fill-in.
