Chef Oscar Martinez, the longest-tenured cast member at Disneyland, announced his retirement from the park via Facebook last evening. His retirement is effective today September 27, which means there won't be a huge crush of fans visiting the restaurant for "one last" meal, photo or handshake. He worked at Disneyland for 60.5 years.

It is with greatest honor, to announce I will be retiring from Disneyland Wednesday September 27th, it has been a great journey these 60 1/2 years. But it has come to an end. May everyone follow there dreams as how I have followed mine. Best wishes for all my Friends Cast Members at the Happiest place on earth.

Here's a 2013 article (https://www.yahoo.com/news/not-happy-wait-until-youre-50-older-124315992.html) about the Chef, who has become something of a celebrity among Disneyland passholders.

We never got to meet him but we really enjoyed the food. I hope he enjoys his retirement, he has most definitely earned it! LOL

I was fortunate to get a visit from him numerous times when i ate at Carnation. It was always such a special treat (and wonderful surprise) to have him visit your table. He is truly a legend and will be very much missed.

I asked after him on a visit and he came to my table. We had a brief but lovely chat. He held my hand. When he returned to the kitchen, the folks at the next table asked how long we'd known each other. I don't think they believed this was our first meeting.

He is just that kind of man - personable, kind and friendly.
