After work today, stopped by DL to take photos of what's new...

First, while in the Autopia queue (it is now the exit, with two way traffic). A very nice CM came up to me and asked me to stop taking photos...

Then later, while in the Innoventions Queue, I was asked to erase the photo I just took of some of the repaving by another CM...

First off, I have nothing against the CM's, they are just doing what their managers told them to do, and they did it politely...

But I don't understand how Disneyland can ask me to stop taking photos when I am in public areas. And I am one that never goes over the fence, or enter a CM only area... I stay in the public areas... (There have been a couple of exceptions, such as behind the scenes at Solace, but I had permission to enter the areas, and take photos).

So anybody have any more info on this new policy....

(It's OK to take ToT construction photos since they promote the new ride, but don't take picture of our refurb walls and pavement work..)

They also say no flash photography on certain rides ;)

Trust me, I have plenty of construction photos (more than likely won't be up until the weekend, due to work and travel issues.....:~D

I know that cast members are not allowed to take any pictures of any construction areas so I could understand why guest are not permitted to as well. As for the reasoning? I have no clue I am sorry.

Maybe they don't want ppl on the Internet to see their refurb work and construction ppl and stuff (even if their faces are blurred out). Maybe kinda embarrassing to have it posted on the Internet?

cuz they have walls and stuff up so the public can't see what's behind it....

that's my guess.

Next time I go to the Park, I'm bringing my attorney with me.

disneydreams, I doubt that the managment cares what people on the internet think of their operations.

Also, you would think they would want to show off the much needed improvments they are making, like on ToT

just a guess :D

I believe you are confusing the terms:

"Public Areas"

and

"Private Property"

I'd guess they pretty much have the right to prevent/allow just about whatever they want on their property.

That said, I think it's a bunch of petty BS on their part and just one more reason I'm passing up DLR in favor of Universal on my next trip.

It has everything to do with valuing the magic. It's the same reason back stage areas are blocked from view of guests... no mystery, or legal stuff.

Well, if they're blocked from the view of guests, how would it be possible for guests to take such pictures?

If they don't want guests to climb over walls to shoot photos, that's legit. But I wouldn't stand for anyone telling me where to point my camera from any actual, non-attraction, guest area.

As much as I love the construction pictures, it makes sense that they don't want guests to see those areas. If they wanted guests to see these areas, they wouldn't put up the construction walls would they?

well the construction walls could've been for safety precautions, cuz if they used, like, traffic cones, people (and young children) could easily go right into the construction sites. I dunno!

It will be interesting to see how long they keep up this "policy". I'm also curious as to what wass the final straw - if there even was one.

Good Point.

And, regarding the "losing the magic" idea, well, that's not true. Afterall, it's not like a ton of people visit DarkBeer's photo album (Ok, a 1/2 million is not a ton). ;)

I also like taking photo's of construction. Personally, I think it's all a big cover up. The only reason why there repaving TL, is so the sinkhole that the sub lagoon is causing, that the ground will be more stable. :) :p

Yes, well then:

1. Get rid of thoes craks between many of the walls.
2. Set it up, so people exiting out of Innoventions can't see anything (not like there's anything to see in DL). ;)
3. Elimate all attactions which have above ground loading platforms, such as the Skyway, or People Mover. :p

Or 4. Just ask people not to take photos. That seems the cheapest and easiest answer.

Did you ever wonder if this "policy" is JUST FOR YOU?

Casino's have their photo books of banned players, perhaps......

Just curious - can you by chance remember the exact (or approximate) wording of what they said? Was it just a request, or was there actually anything said about policy? I mean, sure, they can ask, but I guess the question is, what would happen if you said, "No, I'd prefer not to." As long as you're not in an unauthorized area, I don't really see how they can stop you from taking pictures as long as pictures are allowed to be taken at all from that particular area. If from a location on Tarzan's Treehouse, you can take pictures of the tops of trees as well as what might be behind some walls, I'm not really sure how they can differentiate between the two.

As for the whole "destroying the magic" thing, no one is forcing anyone to look at pictures of things they don't want to see. Just because it's posted doesn't mean you have to look at it.

Could they be wanting to "hide" stuff for the 50th? ;)

Darkbeer- were the CMs that approached you Security or Attractions?

Technically construction areas are considered backstage. And photos of backstage areas are not allowed. Sounds like someone just put the two together. Either that, or it could be the "heightened security" excuse.

Either that, or someone is out to get you...be afraid...be very afraid. ;)
