We reported last week that Disney had filed for several permits related to an "ABC Film Shoot" at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. We now know that these permits were for “The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60,” television show, scheduled to tape on Tuesday, January 12.

Sir Elton John headlines the special, and will debut new song "Wonderful Crazy Night," the title song from his upcoming album. Sir Elton will also perform "Circle of Life," from Disney's "The Lion King."

Disney will use virtual reality technology to allow viewers to interact with the televised show in February.

"Fans watching the show at home can participate in Sir Elton's performance with the Disney Applause app. Using Walt Disney Imagineering's Made with Magic technology, Applause delivers a second screen, interactive experience that will sync directly to the broadcast's major musical segments, displaying colorful light shows and original content on viewers' phones. Their display will be in harmony with the illuminated accessories worn by guests and elaborate lighting design during the performance. Disney Applause is available for iOS and Android. Fans will also have a rare opportunity to experience this once-in-a-lifetime performance via virtual reality. Through the use of the Jaunt VR app, fans will join in the celebration as they are instantly transported to Sleeping Beauty Castle for the musical superstar's concert and to Main Street, U.S.A. for a very special dance routine. A 360-degree view of the VR elements will also be available on ABC.com. Jaunt VR is available for iOS, Android and GearVR."

The website 1iota (http://1iota.com/Show/502/Disneyland-60) is handling audience ticketing for the tapings. Per their website, the live performances include the a capella group Pentatonix, along with Dancing with the Stars performers Derek Hough and Witney Carson. Tapings are at 5:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

“The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60” airs Sunday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.

I wonder if they are using the Hyperion in DCA for the tapings?

Excited for this. I always enjoyed the anniversary specials. The 30th anniversary special is one that will always be a memory of mine. We had it recorded and we watched it over and over. I can still to this day watch it online and know the sequence of events and recite the songs featured in it.

We were there Friday night and heard Elton John sing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" not realizing it was actually him. You couldn't really stop to watch with the mass of people and CM's making everyone just keep moving. It was an absolute mess with the taping and we were limited to TL, IASW and New Orleans Square. Tons of fireworks were going off for this and the "Studio Audience" had on glow with the show Mickey mouse ears. We went on IASW and then left. If the train had been working we would have used it as an escape but with it being down for Star Wars Land we were stuck walking with the masses and my poor dad had a heck of a time getting through the crowd with his scooter. Not a fun night. By the next morning everything was gone except for the spotlight towers.
