I like it but.... if I am alone, and want to film the fireworks with my phone's capabilities, its sometimes hard to hold for a while. A selfie-stick defniitely helps here - much like a tripod for some of the folks that have posted YouTube HD videos of the latest entertainment. I understand the greater good here, and am glad the Parks are focusing on safety and overall guest comfort. Just pointing out one place where, if not abused, it was really helpful.

I do find it entertaining that SO MANY folks on Twitter are pushing the labeling of folks that use Selfie Sticks as being socially awkward in not willing to ask someone (or a CM) to take your picture. I guess its OK to get on someone's case if it fits a certain situation. (no, not really). That's social media.

Additional information directly from Disney:

The ban goes into effect at Disneyland and Walt Disney World starting June 30, and at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland starting July 1. The guest screening (bag check) process will be expanded to include selfie sticks. Guests found to have one will be given the option of returning the device to their car or hotel room, or will be offered the option of checking the device at a designated location near the front entrance. At the Disneyland Resort, this will be at Lost & Found outside Disney California Adventure. Guests will receive a claim tag, and can pick up their device after leaving the theme parks.

Guests found to be using a selfie stick inside the park will be escorted to Lost & Found to check their device, or given the option to return it to their car or hotel room.

The ban does not extend to Downtown Disney or the Resort Hotel areas, and does not change the policy regarding tripods.

When I was at WDW this past May, I could not believe how many people had selfie sticks in the park. People holding them up recording fireworks or shows so that people behind them could not see. My favorite was a lady, maybe late 40's or early 50's, who had one. She was standing in front of the Tiki Room and doing all sorts of different poses and taking pictures of herself. I was sitting eating my Dole Whip Float and just cracking up watching her. Then she proceeded to shorten the stick and use her phone as a mirror to put on make up and do her hair. The she extended it again and started taking more pictures of herself.

More than a few times while in line for a ride, the line had to stop and wait for someone to put away their selfie stick as the CM told them they couldn't take it on the ride with them.

I went to a Dodgers game recently they ban them because they can be used as weapons, especially against Giants fans.

candles71 what man and his family, i have no ideal what you are talking about,Bryan Stow (http://www.mercurynews.com/giants/ci_27920991/comeback-kid-giants-fan-bryan-stow-continues-his).

Last trip, every ride you would hear requests to put away selfie sticks. That is after they had walked past numerous signs saying they weren't allowed on the rides. I don't get how people can think it is safe to have their selfie sticks hanging out of a ride.

Also don't get how people can think the rules don't apply to them.

I don't know what the point of your post was. If it was meant as a joke, it was in extremely poor taste, as several have pointed out. It's surprising you haven't heard about Bryan Stow, the Giants fan who was severely beaten by a group of people following a Dodger game in 2011. It's been in the news up and down California for the past 4 years, and the case was recently decided in court. I guess you just randomly picked "Giants fans" instead of Padres or Angels fans.

If it was meant as a factual statement, then you're simply wrong. Dodger Stadium has not banned selfie sticks this year, though their prior ban against tripods stands.

So, what WAS the point of your post?

I'm not a fan of this. I get that a lot of the people who use selfie sticks are more selfish so there's more of a disregard for others but that's not the case for everyone who uses them. Furthermore, a lot of guests at Disneyland and Disney World are fairly selfish to begin with so I don't think blaming the selfie sticks is an accurate solution to the problem. For example, I understand that strollers are important what with Disneyland being a family-friendly place but strollers have caused far more problems for me than selfie sticks.

The best solution would be to maybe have lockers or something similar at rides with more chance of something going wrong so people can store selfie sticks, backpacks, and whatever else that could interfere with the ride off of the ride. Like Soarin' does with flip flops.

Unfortunately, for all the people who would follow the rules and stow their selfie sticks in a provided locker, there will always be the few who feel it is their right to smuggle the device onto a ride and ignore the rules. People now have the opportunity to stow their selfie sticks in a backpack or bag while on the ride, but there are still the people who are causing the rides to go down by using the sticks once the ride is in motion. So those foolish people are responsible for a ban that applies to everyone.

AVP - first off dont tell me they didnt ban selfie sticks because I saw them tell a person that they have to take it back to there car at Dodger Stadium because you are not allowed to bring in anything that can be used as a weapon, a baseball bat to get autographed, sticks for sign ect... my post has nothing to do with Bryan Stow who I google, so you know what they say about people who asume something, in typical fashion here you and the rest make arses of yourself again. Nice to see that you are violating your policy of self attacks on posters, you are a total discrace as a moderator.
So go ahead and ban me, or I will just make you and the rest of the arseholes here happy, and never come back to this site. so go ahead make yourselfs feel special pat yourselfs on the back, or whatever you need to tell yourselfs how great you are, and say good ridance.

For example, I understand that strollers are important what with Disneyland being a family-friendly place but strollers have caused far more problems for me than selfie sticks. The issue really is people are causing danger to others with these sticks. Our trip a couple weeks ago, every ride had people using them ON the ride. I watched 3 rounds of Tea Cups have to tell people during the ride to put the selfie sticks back inside their tea cup as they were spinning holding this stick out. In one, a 30-35 year old woman just kept holding it up, despite the ride operator breaking in to tell her to keep it inside her cup. She just didn't care. Watched BTMRR trains going by and about 1 in 3 had someone using a selfie stick. Last Monday, Screamin' was stopped several times due to selfie sticks. (Each time takes a 30 min restart time.) I've seen a selfie stick and phone on the Racers course.

While selfie sticks used properly are great, people seem to think their need to take pics with them outweigh other people's safety. Currently, people can just put them in their backpacks. But as that is not working (and people can't obey the rules) the next step is to ban them for everyone.

BTW, what lockers at Soarin? I leave my sandals on the floor if they don't have a strap and we find it easier to lean our backpack against the pole between gliders than to stuff it into the storage net. In fact, it was a CM who suggested it.

I don't live in CA and I know about the Dodgers/ Giants fight. We try not to see either team when they come to town, but AZ plays them a lot so sometimes it works out that way. But, we are like that with any team with "passionate" fans. We also avoid the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, NY Giants, Raiders, Steelers etc. We are wimps- ha ha!

I don't own a selfie stick so this does not affect me, but from a non-owner perspective, I like it. I have gotten "flashed" by a camera way too many times to think that people will apply the rules to themselves. It is unfortunate that the actions of some have affected everyone, but it does make the rule much easier to enforce.

I get that people have abused the sticks but I think the banning them for the actions of a few is not the right way to go about it. The problem is really ******* behavior like what zombie pirate is doing in this thread.

That's really my biggest criticism of Disneyland is that there's very much an attitude of you do what they want you to do there. It can be very uncomfortable to move around the park since you're supposed to go this way and not that way or something like that during parades and the fireworks even though I want to get away from them as quick as possible.

There isn't but I was talking about how the CMs would have you and others put your shoes in a certain area somewhat away from the ride.

I have seen people take selfies (with flash) on Tower of Terror, and (with flash) in the tunnel on the Disneyland Train. It kinda ruins the experience for the rest of us. I'm all in favor of this ban. I guess how this will work is, confiscating sticks during the security check, and what if you are observed by a CM using a selfie stick even in an open area like Main Street , will you have it taken away? Good luck. Also, I suspect their may be also some type of language barrier perhaps, just an observation , not racist, but lots of foreign tourists use those selfie sticks.

It's about time. Look at the parks through your eyes not your phone. I hope this will stop the people walking around with their Gopros out in front of them as they are trying to walk and record everything. Strollers I can deal with, I have had my feet run over and been run into enough where I almost don't even notice it anymore. But don't make my ride stop.

I think the real problem is they have been shutting down of attractions because of them. Now it is a big problem because evacs are haveing to happen and unnecessary down time to attractions is bad for the resort as a whole also.

It can be very uncomfortable to move around the park since you're supposed to go this way and not that way or something like that during parades and the fireworks even though I want to get away from them as quick as possible. Here's the thing, they use directional traffic. Yes, it may take you 2 mins longer, but it is smoother than if everyone just went the way they want.

Selfie sticks would be fine, if people used them safely. However, they don't, they don't abide by warnings, and they cry foul when they get in trouble. The fact that Screamin' keeps going down because people are dropping the sticks, or losing control of them, tells you Disney needs to make rules. They repeat the warnings several times while boarding, yet the ride keeps going 101. On the Tea Cups, the woman was told at least once every 10 seconds of the ride. She would pull it in, then out it would go again. She just felt the rules didn't apply to her. (And there was no language barrier...)
