Does anybody have any pictures of the changes that occurred to the RCCT. I would like to see how much they changed. Thanks

Our Disneyland Resort Update will have some lovely photos, taken by AVP. Look for the update to be posted late tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Boy, did that movie suck! I walked out in reel two.

Poor Walt Disney and his legacy.

Another foolish expenditure from the Disneyland Resort. Why skip the classic movies people like and tie in to current lesser efforts?

Families of all ages would rather see Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Aladdin, Jungle Book and Swiss Family Robinson or 20,000 Leagues attractions. Not Atlantis and Brother Bear and The Black Hole and Dick Tracy and Bug's Life and Playhouse Disney.

They need to get their priorities straight.

And, since you asked, that movie was truly suck-worthy socialist propoganda of the lowest order, and ugly art to boot. That Walt's name is on it is a miscarriage of justice and history. Such fare is harming the brand's clarity and value.

HEY!!

There are plenty of us that would LOVE to see The Black Hole as a basis for a Tomorrowland attraction... (other than the pseudo tie in with Space Mountain) especially if they'd sic Maximillian on that stupid Wrecks over at Star Snores, um Star Tours.

Because this is a thread about retheming a ride to this just released movie. The quality and success of this movie will have a tremendous impact on the success of this move. Why do you ask why?

This move is a risky one. They are trying to promote both the movie and the failing DCA at the same time. The trouble with this is they don't know if the movie is going to be a complete flop. If it is a flop then this move will have failed at both its objectives.

It would have made more sense to wait to see if the movie is to become a big hit. In that case, retheming this attraction to Brother Bear might help draw people to DCA.

You're right, I went too far. I'd go for a TRON or Black Hole ride too - - at least they aren't socialist propoganda! But somehow I think the money would be better spent on Sleeping Beauty.

Come to think of it, Brother Bear and DCA go together like peanut butter and jelly. ;)

The New Disney. Doncha just love it?

While the movie (Brother Bear) was a bit bland in places I would rate it a 7 out of 10 in my book. I liked it well enough, but not as much as a lot of others (Lion King was a 10, Lilo an 8). A lot of this is personal taste, as I would rate Treasure Planet at 6. And Merlin, you tend to prefer the older movies (and I agree about the quality there).

And I agree about the propaganda, ever since Pocahantas I'm getting a little weary of the Green Peace attitude (good as it may be).

I didn't make it over yesterday to see the BB overlay, and frankly don't realy care to.

Oh, I definitely prefer the older movies, but among the modern crop, I like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Nightmare Before Christmas and the Pixar films, all of which are artful, tuneful, humorous, fanciful - - true cartoons with personality humor and visual storytelling and populist sensibilities - - a cut off the Walt Disney cloth - - not stillborn politically correct agendas in ugly colors.

Brother Bear is in the tradition of Pocahontas, Atlantis and the worst of recent Schumacher era literalist, propogandistic duds.

Yes, and I agree the numbers show that the public for the most part back what you say. I guess I am easily amused and don't look at it as much as art (as I belive you do, and quite well at that), but just as entertainment.

However, I think this has gotten a bit off topic for this thread.

Does anyone know how permanent the overlay is?

If the overlay can easily be removed then this move isn't as risky as I think.

I'll bet for what they spent on this Brother Bear overlay for Challenge Trail, they could have nicely updated the interior of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Which franchise has more longterm (and even short term) value?

My understanding is the RCCT is one of the better, if not the best, executed attractions within DCA. It didn't need to have an overlay added to improve its popularity. Meanwhile, Sleeping Beauty's Castle could use a new overlay to improve its popularity and in turn leverage the newly release DVD, which might offer a higher profit than BB will.

From what he said in his October 8 speech, I know that Rasulo is trying to add more "Disney" content to DCA. I'm afraid he may be confused as to what guest mean when they say "we want more Disney". I believe they mean "we want to see more classic or popular Disney characters". By classic, I mean characters that have passed the test of time and have remained popular over the years. By popular, I mean new characters (less than a decade old) that, while not yet passing the test of time, are very popular (e.g., Pixar characters). Brother Bear has a ways to go before making that grade.

Not to a politburo of marketing apparatchiks who are bent on pushing product into the public's eye and putting their hands into the public’s purses; the public's hearts notwithstanding.

I agree completely.

I think when the public demands more "Disney", they want to have escapist experiences, into total immersion, of the fantasy worlds they love to re-experience from the classic Disney legacy. They want Mary Poppins and Sleeping Beauty and Jungle Book - - not ABC Soaps, Bugs, Blue Bear and Hillary Duff.

Duh!

So, does DCA need to be promoted, upgraded and fixed or should Disneyland get all the resources? How can you complain about DCA's quality and then complain when they put resources into it?

I'm also not a fan of doing everything only for the "classics". Studios make movies - some better than others - but if you focus only on the old ones, you will never get another classic and that would be a real shame.

I have absolutely no interest in DCA or any of the lowball executive thinking that went into it. What resources have been spent at Disneyland in recent years by comparison? The public has spoken loudly - - they want Disneyland, not DCA. Put the resources there and make DCA part of downtown Disney, with tickets for individual rides.

Putting ugly moose scultpures in DCA will make Brother Bear a classic? It all starts with the film and its content, hon.

By "Disney content", I think the public also means new and original escapist "wow" experiences in the Disney family entertainment tradition (like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Tiki Room, Small World, Inner Space, Thunder Mt. etc.). Not just the movies were "Walt Disney".

from what I saw for the overlay of RCCT, it hasnt really changed much. It still has all of the rope bridges that my son loved to exhaust me on . The two things that I had noticed that had changed was the totem pole at the entrance. Second was the bear cave that used to only excite kids trying to get there feet wet, now had a place to see what kind of animal personality you have. They have to figure out how to get TWO Lines instead of one Unfortunately I didnt stick around to see if they had any more legend keepers which I hope hasnt changed. I personally loved watching the legend keepers. They were one of the jewels of DCA.

2 people, 2 opinions.

...Putting ugly moose scultpures in DCA will make Brother Bear a classic? It all starts with the film and its content, hon. I didn't say Brother Bear was a classic. I haven't seen it yet. I'm certainly not going to take the opinion of neo-Disney skeptics as gospel.

Personally, I think some of the "newer" stuff is classic. In my daughter's lifetime (she's 15) I've seen Lion King and Aladdin become classic, at least to us. We really enjoyed the Toy Story movies, we thought Pirates of the Carribbean was terrific.. Some others are not so great, but even professional film critics disagree on good vs. bad. So, rightly or wrongly it often comes down to box office/video success as a gauge.

We'll see how Brother Bear fares.. My point is if you stagnate and focus only on 30+ year old inspiration, you end up with trailing edge rides and a lack of originality.
