Tacked to the bottom of the press release about the Walt Disney World summer promotion (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?217307-Walt-Disney-World-to-herald-return-of-%93Frozen%94-Summer-Fun-with-24-hour-party) was confirmation that Disneyland will also hold a 24-hour party to kick off the 60th Anniversary celebration. I expect we'll hear from Disneyland directly about this later today, but I've included the information provided by WDW below:

24 Hours of Fun as Disneyland Resort in California Kicks Off Diamond Celebration of the 60th Anniversary

On the West Coast, Disneyland Resort will kick off the summer with a dynamic 24-hour event of its own, May 22-23, to launch the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Marking the 60th anniversary of the resort, the Diamond Celebration includes the premieres of three new nighttime spectaculars: “Disneyland Forever” fireworks, “Paint the Night” parade and “World of Color – Celebrate!”

The all-day/all-night revelry of the 24-hour party will include dancing and special character encounters at locations in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks, along with enchanting Diamond decor throughout the resort and the exciting shows and attractions that bring guests back year after year. The Disneyland Resort invites guests of all ages to kick off the summer travel season in Southern California, celebrating 60 years of magic at a resort that remains forever young.

Edited to add: here's the information as posted by Disneyland this morning:

The all-day/all-night celebration will begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 22 and will conclude 24 hours later at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 23. The event will include dancing and special character encounters at locations in Disneyland (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/destinations/disneyland/?CMP=SOC-DPFY15Q224HourEventtoLaunchDisneylandResortDiamond CelebrationMay22230003) and Disney California Adventure (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/au/disney-california-adventure/?CMP=SOC-DPFY15Q224HourEventtoLaunchDisneylandResortDiamond CelebrationMay22230004) parks, along with enchanting Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration decor throughout the resort and, of course, the shows and attractions that our guests love.

Here’s a look at what is coming when the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration begins May 22:

“Paint the Night” Parade (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/01/paint-the-night-parade-starts-may-22-as-part-of-the-disneyland-resort-diamond-celebration/) – After dark, along the Disneyland park parade route, 24-hour event guests will be among the first to see the new “Paint the Night” parade, showcasing beloved Disney characters in dazzling parade scenes illuminated with more than 1.5 million individually controlled lights – the first all-LED parade in Disneyland Resort (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/?CMP=SOC-DPFY15Q224HourEventtoLaunchDisneylandResortDiamond CelebrationMay22230006) history.
“Disneyland Forever” Fireworks (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/01/disneyland-forever-fireworks-spectacular-announced-for-disneyland-resort-diamond-celebration/) - Disneyland park itself plays a starring role in the “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular, also premiering during the 24-hour event. Breathtaking fireworks shows have long been a Disneyland Resort tradition and “Disneyland Forever” soars to new levels, immersing guests from the tips of their toes to the brilliant pyrotechnic bursts above, thanks to special effects that turn the storefronts of Main Street, U.S.A., the Matterhorn (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disneyland/matterhorn-bobsleds/?CMP=SOC-DPFY15Q224HourEventtoLaunchDisneylandResortDiamond CelebrationMay22230007) and the facade of “it’s a small world (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/attractions/disneyland/its-a-small-world/?CMP=SOC-DPFY15Q224HourEventtoLaunchDisneylandResortDiamond CelebrationMay22230008)” into gigantic projection screens filled with color, characters and surprises.
“World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney” (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/01/all-new-world-of-color-show-coming-to-disney-california-adventure-park-for-disneyland-resort-diamond-celebration-beginning-may-22/) – Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/02/neil-patrick-harris-joins-mickey-mouse-as-host-of-the-all-new-world-of-color-show-for-the-disneyland-resort-diamond-celebration/) and Mickey Mouse will be the hosts of the all-new “World of Color (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/entertainment/disney-california-adventure/world-of-color/?CMP=SOC-DPFY15Q224HourEventtoLaunchDisneylandResortDiamond CelebrationMay22230005)” show, premiering May 22 during the 24-hour event. “World of Color – Celebrate!” illuminates the night in a fun-filled and inspirational journey exploring Walt Disney’s decades-long legacy of memorable animated moments and his dream of Disneyland park.

We’ll be sharing more details as the 24-hour event draws closer, so keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/)!

this was sort of presented the same way everything else in the 60th marketing has - trickles, hints, and seems like "well, we want them to have a 24 hour party - but they have not decided yet how to do it"...

I knew this was going to happen. Glad I changed out hotel to Sunday-Thursday instead of Monday-Friday. Not really interested in a 24-hour party. But I was thinking about adding back the Thursday night and leaving Friday morning after a few hours in the park. Not sure that'd be a good idea now.

The last two years the higher SoCal pass (the discontinued one) has been good on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend (24-hr party day), and I've gone to both. This year we're blacked out :(. That's a major event to have our passes suddenly not be good for.

I probably would have paid for a blockout day pass for this. If it were still an option.

Maybe they're hoping this will drive AP upgrades...

It is an interesting thing to watch. Actually - I think some Park management want to see if folks are willing to spend the money on a one day ticket and maybe not an upgrade.

I remember reading some information (so it was not Disney, take it how you will), that the initial discontinuation of the So Cal pass and price increases last year actually drove upgrades to the Deluxe - significantly. It was reported that Disney did not anticipate this outcome and now felt a lot more pressure about how to deal with crowding. The intent of price increases and discontinuation was, I thought, to reduce the total number of passholders. Since then the total number of days available to passholders has grown due to the upgrades. That means more crowded days, not less.

It is a dilemma for them since they love the gate $$ (immediate up front fees) but the ops teams and guest planning folks are under amazing pressure to alleviate crowding (more AP parties?). The monthly fees really drove them down this rabbit-hole and the only way out they see (I think) is constantly raising prices.

I'm sure there were a lot of people who renewed the So Cal passes in May last year when they stopped selling new ones who are debating that right now. If they switch to premium they'd get this event plus the 60th. And then next year they risk not being able to go back to So Cal and some might lost their parking add on.

And non-PAP passholders who bought after the recent price increase will have to pay for parking as well. It will be interesting to see how this affects the parking and traffic (more carpooling?) for this event.

Gosh, they could always offer a free button if you carpool with 4 or more people. And a single soda for everyone to share.

in a move to mirror the many AP parties (and get AP holders to come at off-times and relieve crowd pressure) AP holders will be asked to come between 6am and 8am on Sat May 23rd and experience life as a cast member - third shift cleaning up after everybody.

Given the popularity of the Disney College Program, this could work as a tryout of sorts. The only way it would backfire would be all of the trash deliberately thrown on the ground between 6am on the 22nd and 6am on the 23rd to ensure that there will be plenty to do at the after hours event.

Both parks will be open from 6AM Friday May 22 to 6 AM Saturday May 23.

May I ask where this information is coming from? Because while whatever you're looking at says dining hours past midnight are not yet known, I have a very early breakfast reservation at Cafe Orleans.

SO DO I!!!!

I think the information is coming from Disneyland's website, the Aussie edition.

If I am posting in the wrong thread, I apologize in advance. :eyeroll: My question is: On the official opening date of July 17th, will be there any extra events going on for the 60th celebration?

So far, Disney isn't saying much. They just keep parceling little tidbits that most die-hards already know about. The new photos for Matterhorn & HM, plus the PP nursery are fine, but I think alot of people are wanting more more more.

but nothing at all yet announced for July 17th different from what will open in May on the 22nd (or a little earlier). There MIGHT be extra stuff - its not public or yet rumored even. The focus is on May 22nd.
