You know the one... in pieces of eight shop where you can have your name printed on the back of the doubloon? The historical one thats been in NOS since the days of the pirate arcade? I really really want a doubloon and the darn thing has been broken forever.... is it fixed yet? Will it ever be fixed, or is it just something that has kinda gone by the wayside now?:(

Well, Saturday my sister also was intent on making a doubloon. I went in there and really didn't pay attention but she said that it wasn't there.

Now that could be wrong {but she is really good with her machines} but I do know that she did not get a doubloon. :(

I have a doubloon right here in front of me on my computer desk. :)

I hope they bring em back!

How about the other ones that were in the arcade by the Pooh Store? Is that even there anymore? Or the Penny Arcade? You know, those other things you can ingrave. I hope they haven't gotten rid of those, I think those are a great momento.

Hope it helps.

The last I saw of that machine was several months ago when it seemed to magically appear at Pieces of Eight. I was so delighted, I showed Stan4dSteph how you could fill the coin with some very un-Disney phrases. The machine vanished the next week:mad:

oh this makes me ill... that machine is a true piece of Disney history, one of the few little side entertainments left with Walts stamp upon it. I have heard from several people now for quite a while that its not even in the shop anymore. Fortune Red, and this machine are the last remnants of the pirates arcade... how can they just remove it? I really hope its just being serviced, but its been gone such a long time, and when it was there I had heard it broke down fairly frequently (the thing is pretty old after all give it some TLC!).
This is one detail of Disneyland I will dearly miss if its gone, having watched many people make doubloons when I was younger, but never getting the chance to make one myself. Please Disney, for the love of god bring back this machine! Its living breathing Disney history and as such it must stay and be maintained!

I'm amazed anybody saw it that recently! I haven't seen or used that machine since about 1990 (and of course still have the doubloons!) It was yet another casualty of the 90s, but one that is missed, along with many of the unique games made for Disney from Teddi Barra's, the Penny Arcade, and Starcade - don't even get me started on how the second floor of that one got totally glossed over during the Tomorrowland redo!

Is there a picture of this to see what machine you guys are talking about?

I have none - I suppose we could scan Steph's coin, but it would violate the content standards of the site.

I'll get a pic in a second. But not if it violates the code? Why would it violate it?

The particular doubloon I made for Steph was not "family Friendly"
I'd PM you the details, but the filters would render a message of several astericks grouped in 4s.

I'm sure there are more wholesome Doubloons out there that can be shared ;)

Well I dont have pictures of a doubloon of my own, and I tried to find a picture of the machine itself for you... but its a very hard thing to find. I grabbed a picture off a website a long time ago of it, but I have no host to put it on. sorry.:(

And, Nick the pics are still not working at least on my computer... it just says "page cannot be displayed".

Both links worked for me. I also have one, though it does not have a personalized engraving. It was instrumental in our team's win in addQuest Part Deux. :fez:

I still have my doubloon, which I think I got a couple of years ago. After that, whenever I'd ask about the machine, the CMs in the shop would tell me they didn't know if it would ever be back. Such a shame. At least the fortune-telling pirate is still there, right?

You think it would be smart business wise to bring it back (cause of the new movie) you could charge $10 and people would buy it (what did it used to cost?)

cemeinke

Back in the day, I think it was 50 cents, my last doubloon cost $2.00

$10? No.

$4? Maybe once.

$2? Every single time I went to the park.

Shoot, they could change the doubloon designs on the reverse every few months. . .

Somebody smell marketing opportunity here?
