Was there an opening date officially announced by Disney? I must have missed it.

Hmmm, I don't recall seeing a specific target date for it opening, but February 15 would work perfectly for me, though I would expect they'd shoot for the 14th since it's the Friday of a 3-day holiday weekend.

We heard the chain on the big lift this weekend and heard at least one train on the track being tested, but I think they've been testing for a few weeks now.

We're going Jan 30-Feb 2, and with all the ride/show closures during that time I'm REALLY hoping Thunder Mountain will open early!

We heard the chain on the big lift this weekend and heard at least one train on the track being tested, but I think they've been testing for a few weeks now.On our Candlelight trip (Dec 6-9) they were testing the trains, and I caught pictures early in our Christmas trip from the Fantasyland area (Village Haus.) Then the last couple days, we listened to what sounded like E-Stop runs. I'm hoping by mid- Feb, but might be wishful thinking...

I remember seeing the end date for the refurb as 2/14 on another site. We will be there a week later so hopefully it's open.

Is there a "rope drop" from fantasyland by Village Haus after EMH? We are staying onsite that trip so I'm thinking heading there the minute the whole park is open after MM would be the best plan of action. I'm sure the lines will be long right after it reopens.

I don't think we'll really know until they officially announce the soft opening.

I am thrilled we are going the end of February and I cannot wait to ride BTMRR. It has been WAY too long!

Well ... this isn't "official" but came from a security CM. The problem is with "the operating system". The hope is to get it open in early March.

I have been here for 5 days and have not heard any trains running. I have also been told that there are problems and training has not begun for CM's. Disney still has it opening on the 1st though.

My optimism isn't any different then thinking that it will be delayed again, as there is no solid foundation behind any of it either way...Im just hopeful

The official DL site now shows it still closed thru March 6, & the calendar doesn't go out any farther.

It is going to be a weird trip this year with Nemo, Thunder Mountain, Indiana Jones, and Space Mountain closed. I don't head down until March 9th, but I'm not holding my breath. I definitely don't think it will be worth spending $300 for 5 day park hoppers.

Where does it show this now... or can you provide a link?

Thanks

Right under the Annual Pass blockouts there's a link that says "View Refurbishments" -- it still lists Big Thunder Mountain under the refurbishments list on March 6.

Well, that's new...and disappointing. A few days ago it was no longer listed on the calendar starting Feb 1st.

maybe they'll create additional dance party stations in front of each location and come up with some reason to celebrate... :|

I think the only concrete information has been "Winter 2014" from the Disney Parks Blog, so technically anything up until March 20th is Winter 2014 (not counting the Winter 2014 that starts in December).
