I am sure after Boston, the security has gotten tighter, or at least we hope so. I just wonder if they have ever thought about having an express "nothing to declare" line? I always end up behind someone who has everything including the kitchen sink in their bag and I with nothing but my clothes on my back. It sure would speed things up.

They already do have lines where if you don't have a bag, you don't have to stop.

They've never had separate lines when I've been to DL (WDW, yes, but not DL). When did they start them?

Also, it's not 'security' bag check at DL, they're front gate CMs, not security CMs. (Again WDW is different has security CMs)

Exactly right. I've even followed people going around those with bags (when I didn't have one--rare) and they get pissy and ask you to wait. Just there (DL) in Jan, so not sure if anything has changed since then.

They've had a separate "No Bag" line at WDW for years, but they don't specifically have one at DL. Sure, one line may be going faster momentarily because no one has a bag, but it's not a "No Bag" line.

I still don't understand why they DON'T do that at DL.

I think they've tried and people just can't follow directions.

I always end up behind someone who has everything including the kitchen sink in their bag and I with nothing but my clothes on my back. It sure would speed things up.They attempt them every now and again. Last Christmas, when the bag check line backed up from the tents to World of Disney, they opened a "No Bag" line. About 1 in 3 people that attempted to use it had a bag, and got upset when they were told to go back to the end of the huge regular line. The excuses why they should get to enter were usually "But my husband doesn't have a bag and I am with him" or "It's a stroller" or "It's just my purse." They just couldn't get through their head a bag is a bag.

They already do have lines where if you don't have a bag, you don't have to stop. No, they don't. On a very rare occasion, when the DTD side gets excessively long, they may open one line and attempt to use it. The only 2 times (once was on NYE, the other was the 4th of July last year) I have ever seen this, they used a security officer to man that line. The other 75 time I entered in the last year, they did not have a bagless line.

They don't want you to go around the people with bags because the CM is busy looking at someone's bag, so there's no one to confirm that the people going past actually don't have bags. They'd have to have an additional CM there to watch to make sure that the people simply walking through really don't have bags. Someone said DL did test a "no bag" line for a little while but it didn't work because people with bags still tried to go through.

Yeah, it needs to be geographically separated like it is at WDW. Completely different lines in different areas with lots of signs.

I wonder what the average wait time is to go through bag check? Although those minutes at bag check seem like an eternity with the anticipation of getting into the park, I dont think I ever waited more than 5 minutes.

Does DLR increase the number of CMs at bag check during peak times? I seem to recall 2-4 lines during my visits.

I don't expect they will do anything different at bag check -- but they may be more vigilant about unattended bags within the parks (as will other park guests, I'm guessing).

Just to be clear: The bag check at DL is NOT run by Security. It's "Just" The main gate CMs - the same ones who work the lines taking tickets. At WDW, they're security guards. Not at DL.

My apologies. I may have been at the park on a day when they had this no bag line open or being tested out. I remember the CM telling the people in our party if they didn't have a bag to check to "come on this side" and the rest of us had to stop as we had bags and a stroller. I always have a bag and have to wait. So I thought this was the norm. Again, apologies.

If the CMs aren't too busy in Disneyland we've had them escort us from the Downtown Disney side out the main gate side when we've had a zillion bags hanging off the stroller and haven't felt like having them search everything. I don't know if they'll still do that or not, but you can bet I'll ask in the summer!

At WDW they are super Thorough with bags! WIth my camera bag/backpack I practically had to un zip the entire thing and unload it before I could get through. Then they are like okay move on with all my stuff hanging open!! It's crazy. Knowing they are really security makes more sense now.

At DL they barely give my bag a glance.

I've often wondered why they don't have same set up for bag check at Disneyland as they do at Walt Disney World. It is much more helpful for those who do not have bags to have a separate line, like at WDW. I've never seen a non-bag line at Disneyland. And...the security has not changed since last week. There isn't even really any consistency as to what they do and do not check. I take the same camera bag each time I go and always have all the compartments un-zipped. Sometimes they look at all of the compartments, others times just one, sometimes none.
I wish they had Security CMs instead of the Main Gate CMs handling bag check. Also wish our tram line was set up like WDW, but that's another entirely different topic.

It's hit and miss. Sometimes they're happy to do it, other times they act like it's never done, you're wrong, how dare you ask.

Oh you've lucked out. ;)

I choose my lines "wisely" I stand back and watch to see how the CMs are behaving. I do NOT do well with the CMs that dig through my bag with their hands. First, they're not supposed to do that and because I know that, when they do, it's just an extra invasion of my privacy, waste of my time and, on their part, an abuse of power.

I've told the story here before of the time Doc got caught by the most meticulous CM EVER. He has these backpacks with 10,000 pockets. (No, really. He does.) She made him open EVERY Pocket. He also carries a lot of little bags inside the big bag, to organize his items. She made him open JUST ABOUT every single one of those, TOO. Except for ONE. And that ONE bag was the only bag that had anything in it that might have been questionable. (I assure you, it was harmless, and an item that would've easily gotten past any other CM - and does on a regular basis.) But when I needed to use it later that day and he pulled it out right away, I immediately asked him HOW he got it past that intense search. That's when he told me it was the ONLY bag she hadn't searched.

They did this a couple of weeks ago for my friend who had a rolling suitcase -- she was dropped off in the taxi area and we were taking the bag to my car in M&F. She was really happy they didn't want to have her open her suitcase and rifle through everything!

So it's all just one big show to give the impression that they are conducting security screenings when in fact they are not!

So?

At least you're not forced to pay for the dog and pony show, like for the TSA.

No. They never purport to be conducting security screenings. It's a bag check. They check your bags. It's pretty clear that it's regular cast members doing the checks, since they're not in security costumes.

What is in the bags that they are looking for?
