The much-anticipated Audio Animatronic dinosaur was seen on stage at DCA today, and is scheduled for two more sets.

If you get a chance to pop by DCA at 12:25 or 3:45, you may be able to see him in Hollywood.

In the Lucky thread DarkBeer posted the schedule - but I went to the park yesterday at the 1:45 show but apparently by 1:55 they were all done. I missed it - or they never had it. So - if you plan to go, make sure you are there BEFORE the start time - so you can catch a glimpse. I hope they'll still run as planned next week - so I will go.

Here are some photos of the critter. He made it all the way through the 12:15 set. I have 8 video clips as well, some of which will be included in the Monday Update.

I had heard that in addition to making noises, sneezing and blowing his nose, Lucky also signs autographs. And you have a picture of his autograph. My question is this. In every picture I have seen of him, his hands are attached to the bar on the harness to the cart. I would assume that his hands are fastened, but I could be wrong? How does Lucky sign the books?

Wow. Too bad I can't make it to see this thing :( It looks awsome! Is it done to a Dinotopia theme?

I WUV his wittle face! He really is adorable, and much smaller than I thought he'd be. Very cute. When do we get ours?

Wednesday, I went to see him at 7:15...and no show. :crying: I asked the CM and he said that the dino was not comming out today. (Wednesday) I was bummed.
But, thanks for the pics. I hope to get back there before he leaves.

(Off topic:eek: )
I didn't see Lucky, but, Maynard was at the HM. We just talked to him for about ten minutes. He did the finger puppets:D

Wow, it looks amazing. I can't wait to see how they use this sort of technology at the parks. This definitely gives me a reason to visit DCA this week.

So, is this creature supposed to be from the illustrated book/Disney miniseries "Dintopia"? It certainly looks that way.

I wish he would be there for a while. Is it true he will be there for only a week or so?

I was able to stop by today before my shift to see Lucky and I must say that I am quite impressed. His motions were very fluid and precise. The only thing that could probably be worked on is his walking speed. Granted, the fact that he walks under his own power is still quite impressive, but since the whole unit weighs around 6,000 lbs. (so I'm told) it slows him down quite a bit.

I was also told that he will be around through the end of next week. I wouldn't count on any weekend shows since it is without a doubt WDI people that are in charge of the test run, and they are 9-5 Mon-Fri sort of folks. Anyone who has the ability to stop by before his visit here is through, I highly recommend it. I am definitely going to stop by again before he goes.

With the caveat that I cannot see the thing in person (I cannot get to the resort on weekdays), I have to say that I am not at all impressed.

Perhaps it's once again due to the over-hype made by Disney, but this is not a dinosaur walking under its own power. It's all contained in the cart and balanced by the cart. Without the cart, the dino could not move.

Disney publicity led me to believe that it was going to be a free-standing dinosaur. Maybe if, for once, Disney would stop lying, I could experience the "wow" factor. As it is, and has always been, when Disney says it is going to deliver "A" and then delivers "B," I experience the "disappointment" factor.

I too, was hoping for somthing that would be a little, "grander". I was thinking a dino with four legs and the cart stuff inside, almost like that one that was on the Travel Channel a year or so ago. But, you can't have everything :(

Without having seen Lucky myself, I also have to say that this shows how far behind in Robotic Disney is, compared to where they used to be.

This isn't a walking robot. It's a rolling robot. That's a difference.

Plus, WALKING ROBOTs have been around in different fashions for about 10 years now. Honda's Asimo just attended a State Dinner in Prague.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/030822/161/51pdq.html

That's how far the technology has come. Do we see anything like this guy anywhere in Tomorrowland or Future World?

No.

We've had 4-legged walking toy robot dogs for years now. It's a consumer item. It's sold in any major toy-store in america. But we still haven't seen an animatronic without a pole up it's back, and a serious amount of hardware behind the curtain (or cart, as it were).

Here's an easy thing to do, rolling robots, via remote-control. But has there ever been a walkaround R2-D2 in Tomorrowland?

Robotics have grown leaps and bounds since the days of Jose and Lincoln. But animatronics don't keep pace one bit. This stuff is cheap and in the consumer marketplace now. They need to up the wow factor better than they are.

We need Asimo!

After reading todays update and watching the videos of Lucky, I would like to recant that. I orginally thought that lucky was like a float, with the trailer having wheels underneeth and lucky just moving his feet to make it look real. I was wrong. This thing is amazing! It nears the realism of the POTC pirates and the swift movement of the snake of Indy. Kudos to Disney for making an amazing creation. After all, how many times can you see a dinosaur walking through DCA?

I think it is a pretty good idea to have this in DCA. I think it will help boost DCA attendance and will really impress kids. I think this thing is really neat and hope they keep it around for a while!
