Disney has announced (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2013/03/limited-time-magic-disney-character-egg-hunt-begins-next-week-at-disney-parks/) an interesting Limited Time Magic promotion for Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort:

If you have an eagle eye, next week’s “Limited Time Magic (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/let-the-memories-begin/limited-time-magic/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000215-03-13)” surprise at Disney Parks (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000115-03-13) is especially for you. We’re launching a special “egg” hunt at both the Walt Disney World (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000415-03-13) and Disneyland Resorts (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000315-03-13).

For one week only, from March 18-24, you’ll be able to search for special hidden “eggs” themed to Disney characters at Epcot (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/destinations/epcot/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000515-03-13) and at Disney California Adventure (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneys-california-adventure/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000615-03-13) park and then record your discoveries on specially themed Eggs-perience park maps.
At Epcot, maps can be purchased at the Heritage Manor in the American Adventure Pavilion, International Gateway, Pin Central and Port of Entry.
http://parksandresorts.wdpromedia.com/media/disneyparks/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/lte225362SMALL.jpg (http://parksandresorts.wdpromedia.com/media/disneyparks/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/lte225362LARGE.jpg)

And at Disney California Adventure park, you can purchase the map at Elias & Co., Oswald’s, Radiator Springs Curios, Tower Hotel Gifts and Treasures in Paradise (http://family.go.com/travel/things-to-do/california/disneyland/poi-481397-treasures-paradise/?CMP=SOC-DPFY13Q2LimitedTimeMagicDisneyCharacterEggHuntBegi nsNextWeekatDisneyParks000715-03-13).
Each map and set of stickers will cost $4.95, plus tax at select locations. And whether you choose to hunt for eggs or not, return your map to a Port of Entry at Epcot or Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure park for a surprise.
Maps will be available while supplies last and no discounts apply. You should also know that separate admission is required to enter Disney Theme Parks and the experience is subject to restrictions and change without notice.

I was thinking I would head out and do this on Sunday, but now I'm wondering just how "limited" this magic will be. Perhaps I'll see if I can convince my family to head down Friday night and hope that this lasts at least that long.

Any word on what the "surprise" is?

We did it today. At the end, the girls got a pack of two Vinylmation key chains.

It is a Limited Time Magic promotion with an official end date of March 24, which is Sunday... so I'm thinking you should be OK for Sunday. The only thing you probably want to make sure is that you actually turn it in for your keychains on that day, instead of forgetting and going back later on another day.

I agree with *should* but it ultimately depends on how popular Disney thinks the promotion it will be and how popular it actually is. If it is a limited time trinket if they don't order enough my guess is when they are out there is nothing they can/will do about it.

For 3 Kings Day, which was only over a weekend and not an entire week, the specialty food offerings on Sunday were all gone by the time we got there mid-afternoon. The CM I spoke with seemed to indicate that they sold more than they expected Saturday and didn't have much to start with on Sunday, which also went fast. I have no idea whether that was true, as I don't as a rule trust information from random CMs, but it did teach me to go early if it is something I want to do.

Now knowing that it is two keychains, maybe I will only get one hunt for the family to share instead of one for each kid. Thank you Disney!

Just to provide more information for anyone who's interested, they have Donald, Goofy, Simba, and Tinkerbell keychains. They're hidden under eggshells when you make your selection, but the cast member can "guide" you to your preferred choice (or simply give it to you outright).

Nice! Too bad they don't have a Stitch one. ;-)

I did this today. Cute. the "eggs" are in someone visible areas - but at times you have to look high up, and others around the bases. the keychains ar the Vinylmation Jr Pairs 2 (http://eventservices.disney.go.com/static/vinylmation/vinylmation%20jr%20pairs%202.html). Unfortunately no Cheshire. Mini, Happy, or Pluto. Not a bad little activity - especially for the younger set they were all into it.

The one "By the Wharf" actually had us completely stumped. We ended up needing to ask a cast member for guidance. I feel kind of lame since this hunt is more or less designed for little kids to do, haha.

i kind of skirted that one since I did not want to spend time looking. So my leftover went into that slot.

We found the other 9 very easily so we could've done the same, but my friend wanted to take pictures of all of the eggs so we kept at it for probably far too long.

I wish there was a different prize. I'm not in to the Vinylmation, and I don't need any key chains. It would be nice if they offered a choice for the prize.

Does anyone remember the egg hunt from the 80s? I think it was 1984 (maybe '83?) when I won a free ticket to return to DL. It wasn't so much a "hunt" as choosing a plastic egg and opening it up. I think I used to have a button with Thumper on it from that day.

I do!!! I think I have the same button, or did. Wonder if I still have it somewhere.

Did this today. The 3 year old liked it and even found one egg we were about to walk right by. If he does not ask for it the Simba keychain might be Mommy's!
