For two kids under 12 ($199 each) and one adult ($199) and one adult with parking pass ($298), the Southern California Select Annual Passport total is $895. I can buy any the passes any time in Dec 2011 or Jan 2012. Is there anyway for me to get that $895 down - to pay less than $895? Thanks!

Wow those prices just keep rising and that's for the Select with the most blackouts? When I first got Deluxe AP's in 2006 I am pretty certain I paid $239.00 for them and parking add on was only 30 or 40.00 extra. I can't think of any discounts on passes unless you know a Cast Member then they get a small percentage off.

I remember in 2000 when the premium pass was only $299.

About the only thing you could do is the payment plan (assuming you are in California, which considering the pass you selected should be a given).

It costs $100 for parking? Wow!!! Are you going to be going often enough for that to pay off, vs paying for parking each day?

Yep, it now costs $99 to add parking to a pass (still included with a premium). If you're going to visit and need to park more than 6 days, it's worth it. Otherwise, you may as well pay as you go.

I'm sure we'll go more than 6 times in a year, probably Sundays. $895 breaks down to about $90 a month for 10 months (excluding Summer) a family of four to attend Disneyland (mostly) anytime they want.

I'm trying to put that into perspective to convince myself its worth it.

One movie a month for a family of 4 cost about $55 (2x$13+2x$6.50+popcorn, candy, etc.)
For the price of two movies, we can go to Disneyland that month many times.

One nice dinner out a month for a family of 4 cost about $60.

Anyone else have some comparisons to help put the Disneyland passport cost per month into persepctive?

I think that's a really good way of looking at it. People only have so much disposable income they can spend on luxuries, and Disneyland is one of the choices. Everyone has to decide what they choose to spend their money on and what's more important to them to experience.

Please double check this before taking my word but I believe that the Southern California Select passes are blocked out on Sundays (Saturdays and Sundays all year plus other days around holidays and all Summer). I think you have to go up to the next level, the Southern California ($269 per person) to be able to go on Sundays.

Correct. The Select pass is good for 170 days while the SC passs is good for 215, including Sundays, well most Sundays. There are no weekend dates for the Select Pass, and blackout tickets are now $50 a day.

It's even worse. Blockout tickets are now $59 per day. -- Suzanne

Me too. I graduated college and came back home to NorCal and bought the annual pass for $399. Then when people started complaining about the value of DCA on the annual pass, they lowered the price to $299 and extended the annual pass for that extra $100 already paid.

I was just talking about this with my hubby last night.

The only discount we could figure out was buying the pass at our local grocery store. Our American Express card gives us 5% cash back on grocery store purchases, so if you have a credit card with higher grocery store rewards, you can at least get some benefit out of the cost.

Plus isn't that pass blocked out most of the summer? That is when we go.

If you live in or around Santa Clarita, you can save $10 on each pass with a 25 Score card... http://www.25score.com/2008/04/disneyland_tickets_are_back.html

And 15, 20, or 25 if you get the other passes with more days...

And they only cost $20!

One suggestion I would make would be to put the parking on one of the children's passes. This way if the parent that has it can't go, the rest of the family can and not pay for parking. My co-worker did this, and even when her family took her oldest child, they could still get the free parking.

I was also a bit surprised by the fee hike. I mean, I suppose I shouldn't be all that surprised, but here I am.

I had an AP a while ago and it was the top one-- I think I paid just shy of $400. For whatever reason, I can rationalize $400, but there I just can't rationalize $500. Everybody has a line and I suppose that's mine. Shame :(

We paid $289 for the deluxe in 2009 and now it's $379. But I factor in how much it costs me for just one 5 day trip when deciding if it's worth it or not.

10 Years ago or so we got a base anual pass for 99 bucks.

In the words of the Violent Femmes those days are "gone daddy gone"

If all you're planning on is one 5-day trip a year, a 5-day parkhopper ticket is $246 (including the discount for buying online), and there are reduced prices for kids.

We go at least 5 days per trip. So for another $120 (less than a 2 day pass) we can go several times. We are only 5+ hours away and have made even a long weekend trip with our passes. My point was that I don't look at the price of the entire AP, I compare it to what we would pay for just one trip. When we had APs in 2009-10 we made 4 trips for a total of 21 days.

Upgraded our Premiums to Primiers today. Used our Disney Visa Reward dollars. It paid 100% of the $630 upgrade fee:fez: It really pays to put EVERYTHING on the Disney Visa credit card (and pay it off every month of course).
