OK, so you can find the official rules (fine print in the above link), what do we find, that there will be 10,000 prizes given out over 41 days.

They are printing out 1.5 million tickets, some will be given out in the mail-in version, but most will be issued at the park.

So, what can you win, out of the 10,000 prizes, 5,000 are $5 ESPN Zone game cards, the odds of winning are 1 in 300.

So that means that only 1 in 7 AP holders, who went EVERY day would win a game card.

Now, there are 5,000 other prizes, so that gives you a 27.333% chance of winning ANY prize if you went EVERY day, or basically one in 4 AP holders. But only a small percentage will make all 41 days..... so lets go back to a single day attendance during the event.

The best prize is a new Saturn ION, there are 5 of those, so the odds are 1 in 300,000.

Next are 5 Yamaha TTR 125 Motorcycles, also 1 in 300,000 odds.

Also, 5 Yamaha Blaster 200 ATVs - same odds.

For some reason, there are only 4 third place prizes, X Games IX Special Guest Pkg., odds are 1 in 375,000.

Then there are 55 Sony PlayStation 2 Video Game Systems, odds are 1 in 23,077.

100 Mongoose BMX Bikes, odds are 1 in 15,000.

Then a big drop, only 16 Sixth place prizes, Kodak Easy Share CX 4200 Digital Camera, odds are 1 in 93,750.

Back to 100 Action Sports Video Games, odds are 1 to 15,000.

Next are 750 Silver Series Skateboard, odds are 1 in 2,000.

And two final prizes, first are 1,200 X-Games Sport Watches, odds are 1 in 1,250.

And of course, you have to have X-Games Pins, 2,750 of them, odds of winning are 1 in 545.

Now, based on the $235,989 in prize value (based on the official rules), the average guest will win 15.73 cents worth of stuff. It seems like the cost of the game cards, and the administration of the contest will be more expensive then the prizes they give away.

So go have a good time, and enjoy the X-Games, but don't go to just try and win a prize.

In fact, for those folks going to Disneyland, is it worth it to walk across the Main Entry Plaza just to have a chance to win a prize, when the odds show the worth to be less than 16 cents?

If they were gonna give something to everyone, they would just hand it out at the door. The odds you're quoting are true of any giveaway/contest you see out there.

In answer to your question, since any prize you win is going to be worth more than 16 cents, it might be worth it to veer accross the plaza and pick up a card. If you had stated an actual fact, that even if you won it would only be valued at 16 cents, then no, it wouldn't be worth it.

I agree that someone shouldn't go just to win a prize. But there will be a few thousand people who will get a nice bonus, what's wrong with that?
