I was bored recently and decided to enter the following URL:

www.westcot.com

Try entering it and see for yourself. I guess Disney still owns rights to the domain. Anyway, even after years have passed, I cannot help but ask, "what if" to myself. So, I stumbled upon Jim Hill's old article.

Here is a part of the article that still makes me imagine:
Your day at Westcot begins as you zoom off Interstate 5, driving straight in to one of two massive parking garages that border the reconfigured Disneyland Resort. After parking your car, you hop aboard an elevated shuttle (modeled after the automated system that Orlando International Airport uses to shuttle passengers to its outermost air terminals) which takes you quickly and quietly to Disneyland Plaza.

For the entire 5-part article: http://www.jimhillmedia.com/articles/archive.0005-1.htm

Until this day, I still can't help but imagine how happy I'd be if a park of this magnitude was right here in Anaheim. I could imagine it filled to capacity almost everyday with no annual pass offered for the first 3 years. I would be willing to pay up to $50 for a single day admission for the park described above. "Disneyland Center" seems to be much more detailed than the DTD we have today, complete with an Avalon casino replica and water surrounding the shops.

In the meantime, I've been searching the internet for any rendering or concept print that details what Westcot could have looked like. So far, I've only been able to download some low-resolution images and 1 hi-res map of the entire resort. Does anyone know of a link that contains more artwork?

I guess we could always call it "The Best Park Disney Never Built." :(

There are no good sights to my knowledge. However, I believe that some of the official imagineering books from Disney have some details about the WestCOT Center (Amazon.com). There is a sight, however, that has some interesting press releases about WestCOT Anaheim and DisneySea Long Beach, as well as the conceptual Disneyland lands of Hollywoodland, Edison Square, and Discovery Bay:crying: :crying: .

So, I have to say I am relatively new to the Disney theme park scene, and I guess I just don't understand why, with all these great ideas mentioned, they built Disney's California Adventure? The DisneySea in Asia looks so dang cool, I would actually travel there if the chance came up. WestCot sounds like it would have been amazing. I actually enjoy DCA, but I think it could be so much better. It just doesn't have the magic of Disneyland. I think of it as a nice diversion for the afternoon with shorter lines and more food options. I would still choose a day at Disneyland over a week at DCA.

Welcome DivaPrincess. Be sure to tell us all about yourself at the Lounge forum.

To answer your question, it all boils down to MONEY:mad: . To be more specific, a tightwad CEO named Eisner.

Um... It logged me onto Disneyland.com. Faster than most sites do on my computer, I might add. No Westcot. Is that what happened to you guys?
We can only hope they'll get lots of money-- ahem-- give lots of money to DLR, and maybe they'll say, "Hey! What a great idea for our third park. Let's build it right now. Forget those complaining 'Heimies!*"
* That's my new nicknames for Anaheim residents. Clever and slightly offensive. Huh?

Westcot.com is a direct link to Disneyland.com - the URL was registered for when WestCOT was being build, which never happened, but was once approved. The project was cancelled in 1996.
