I was scouting around for towns in Southern California online and ran across a website describing a town called Garden Grove. In the description it said:

"A third Disney park has been proposed for a location near the Garden Grove city limit. "

Is there any truth to this? If so, what theme will the new park follow? How far into the future is this?
Thanks for the info!:D

I doubt that Disney will build another park in California that isnt within walking or a short monorail ride from the other two parks.

There were plans to put a third theme park on the parcel of land just south of Katella (the strawberry field that Disney bought a while ago). However, all plans have been put on hold for an indefinate amount of time due to the recuction in tourism and to allow Disney to concentrate on getting DCA fixed.

Disney does OWN that land right?

Yes, the "parking lot" that used to be the strawberry field was bought by Disney (after the primary owner passed on).

It is sitting there pretty much empty now, Disney could use it as overflow parking, but would have to hire street legal busses to take the guests from the lot to the park, and they are not in the mood to pay the expense.

I've also seen stuff about a third gate. Usually thought to be a water park. I doubt would build anything new until DCA is getting a steady stream people throught he gates. There is also the Long Beach Project.

That strawberry field land is actually very close to the Garden Grove city limits(about a block and a half), but not quite inside them. This is probably the land they were referring to, though. We can only hope that some new fabulous park will eventually be built there!

I'd love to see that lot as it is now. Can it be easily spotted?
And for those who have seen it --- is it plausible that a monorail system could be built to take guests to and fro?

The City of Garden Grove is a 5 minute drive from Disneyland with traffic. Technically, if they wanted to, they could build a park in GG and connect it with the monorail (it would be about a three minute ride, however...

I doubt they would use the Monorail. It would be too costly to build a new track, and would be quite a few logistical problems.

However, I don't see them doing this, As Polar said, they have been planning for a few years to build the third park in the old Strawberry field. they even had a website for it for a while. However due to upset "Disney Neighbors" as well as the explaination Polar gave the plan is on hold.

However, if you look at where they were going to situate it, it would actually be pretty much on the border of GG (depending on how big it is). So maybe GG is just trying to get some free publicity by saying that it will house another disney park.

Ahh the strawberry field. Last trip to DL in October every shuttle bus we took from our hotel (The West Coast Anaheim) went right by there, and the bus driver would always tout it as the future home of a third gate. I'll believe it when I see it.

Last month I noticed a new area being built right by Disney I can't remember the name of it but it looks like a dinning, shopping entertainment complex. I know it wasn't by Disney but I was supprised Disney would pass up that land for someone else to take.

All,

My wife and I recently joined up with the Disney Vacation Club.

We asked the Resort specialist about future pland for the OLD strawberry field (Vacant Lot area) Adjacent to Disneyland on corner of Harbor and Katella I beleive.

She mentioned there is no plans for time shares in this area because they are land locked with too many hotels nearby. But she did tell us Disney has been planning a " Disney MGM Park" on the vacant site once the attendance and untilization of DCA is worked out. We will have to see how the Tower of Terror and other attraction upgrades help out DCA.

Well is pretty suspect data but certainly food for thought.

Cheers,
Whiles ;)

We already have MGM in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot at DCA. This is too rediculous to be believed. Maybe they talked about it at one time, but that's it. Besides, Universal, Hollywood is THE location for studio tours. No sense making a fake one just down the freeway from a real one with film history.

yes there is plans for a third gate but has been delayed and believe it or not plans have been made for even a fourth gate but that has been pushed way way way back into the future unless tourism takes a BIG step forward.

I know these are very far into the future, and things can change, but does anyone know what this third and forth park would be??? Speculation, I know, but Its fun! :D

Uh, Where would they even put a fourth gate? In the middle of Harbor Blvd?

I think the Strawberry field is the last hope for any additional park in the future.

I don't know what it would be - but I know that when DCA was being built, we were under the impression that it would be a water park. Maybe that's what they are thinking - it certainly wouldn't be either inappropriate (in SoCal weather) nor the first waterpark for Disney..
