I took a picture of my son sitting by the rabbit and his stop watch by Alice in wonderland. I was looking at the pictures and noticed the stop watch is at 5:00 oclock. I am sure there is a reason for that time but I can't think why does anyone have an idea?

Sorry who's Dave?

Dave is Dave Smith, Disney's Chief Archivist. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave a few weeks ago at the Burbank Studios Tour for D23. He is a wealth of knowledge about any thing Disney. I believe he started working for Disney in the early 70's. Could you imagine it would be like a kid in a candy store. Running around finding props and such to preserve. Dave is retiring soon. I believe a Rebecca Cline will be filling his shoes. He also has a book coming out soon, and of course it will be called "Ask Dave", just like to column he writes now.

WOW that would be so cool meeting someone that knows so much about Disney. Does he have a website?

Great YouTube clip!

There is an Ask Dave column on the D23 website. I don't know if there are any others. Find the D23 one here (http://d23.disney.go.com/wdarchives.html)

Isn't 5:00 about tea time?

Dave knows entirely too much about Disney, and does not have a great sense of humor, but he is a very nice old man and he would probably know the answer.

My guess, it had to be set to some time, so theres probably no reason behind it

Dave Smith already retired last year and Becky Cline took over his job back then. He still writes a column for D23 and sometimes comes to events.

Is there a brand name on the face of White Rabbit's watch? Most times, if clocks are pictured in a catalog or something, they will position the hands of the clock in a way that shows off the brand name on the clock face.

It doesn't seem like that would be the case tho, if it's showing 5 o'clock, since it's not a time that looks like a pie wedge, like other clocks and watches have.

There is an "ask Dave" column in the Disney Insider emails I get, also.

My guess would be because in the animated film when he (White Rabbit) is holding the watch up to his head it shows 5 o'clock.

Why its 5 o'clock in the film I have no idea.

I believe that Tea Time is usually at 5 o'clock. So that might be one explanation. It has been a while since I have watched the movie, but IIRC correctly, The White Rabbit stops in at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, so prehaps that is the very mportant date that he is late for?

I saw a T-shirt that said, "It's five o'clock, happy hour, somewhere in the world right now. :)

I don't remember the Lewis Carroll book actually mentioning a specific time.

It does, actually...but it mentions that the Mad Hatter's watch always says 6 o'clock which is why it is always tea time. Which sort of renders my earlier post incorrect.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Queen of Hearts.

I believe his very important date was to be the announcer at the Queen of Hearts party.

Because he's late for Tea Time, which is 4:00.

"I'm late. I'm late for a very important date. No time to say "Hello."
Goodbye. I'm late, I'm late, I'm late."

Exactly what I was going to say. I believe this is the correct answer.

But if you go back into the text of the story, the Mad Hatter indicates that his watch is stopped at 6:00 which is the explanation for what it is always tea time.

low tea time is 3-5 pm and high tea time traditionally is 5 or 6. i know this because one of the hotels that we (company i work for) used to manage had tea time and it was a little ridiculous. only the european guests would have tea but americans thought it was just a silly waste of time :eyeroll:

Is it true that low tea is without food and high tea is with food (finger food, not a meal)?
