I recently came up with a crazy ride idea that was a result of both
playing Mario Kart a little too much and hearing about an idea for a
Country Bear Racing dark ride that WDI had pitched but never got off
the ground.

My ride, instead of being a regular dark ride, would be a Buzz
Lightyear/MIB Alien Attack style ride. In the queue, there would be
TVs hanging around like in most rides these days(They would all be in
black and white of course to match the theming). The queue videos
would set up the premise through the use of a mock racing program hosted by Buff, Max, and Melvin(Which would either be animated or using guys
in suits like in the movie)who would explain that the bears have returned to Disneyland,
but instead of performing, they've decided to make DL the site of
their annual auto race, which your invited to watch of course. At
point Rufus mentions that this isn't going to be any regular race. He
says that the bears have decided to make the races more challening by
allowing the use of several "bee cannons" mounted on the front and
the back of the vechiles (Shaped like beehives) to hinder each
other's progress.(This is where the Mario Kart influence kicks in).
However, Rufus dosen't know exactly how the bears are going to be
able to aim and fire all those cannons and drive at the same time,
but he hopes he can correct the problem before the race starts.
(While Rufus is explaining this Ernest is in the background examining
the bee guns and accidentaly drops one, breaking it and causing Rufus
and Ernest to get chased out of the room by a swarm of angry bees).

The rest of the queue video would show each of the nine bears competing(Henry,
Liver Lips, Terrence, Teddi, Beulah, Zeke, Trixie, Fred, and Big Al)
prepping up for the race.(Beulah would reveal in her segment that
she's the only one of the Sun Bonnets who can drive-she just got her
learner's permit), along with updates from Rufus, clips from the
original CBJ, and explanations on each of the three tracks(There
would be three different ride tracks to choose from, by the way. The
first would be a simple rustic woods area, the second would be based
on the town of Big Thunder where you would crash through buildings
and such as you head for the finish line with the old Ranch and BBQ
buildings featured, and the last would be Sunset Canyon, a strenouous
mountain canyon course which would have an effect where the sun sets
and turns to night near the end of the track).

Near the end of the queue, Henry would announce that it's almost time
for the race to begin, and the bears would head of to the garage to
board their cars. When they get there, they see that Rufus has done a
few touch-ups...like putting several seats in the back of the their
cars facing backwards. Rufus explains that he couldn't find a way for
the bears to fire all the bee cannons on their own, so he rigged it
so additonal people can ride in the cars to operate the cannons.
Henry says that they don't have time to round up more bears. Bubbles
would then look at the camera and ask, "Hey, what if you folks down
there would..." Beulah, already in her car, interrupts by saying, "Oh
please, Bubbles, they've probably already figured out that THEY'RE
gonna have to do it!"

At that point the bears would head out and Rufus would then give a
brief tutorial on how the ride works....on each of the cars there
would be sensory targets on the fronts, backs, and sides. Hitting
these with the cannons would make the cars spin out of control and
slow down at the moment. Rufus also comments that there targets all
across the tracks and shooting each one would cause
a diffrent effect, either something humorous would happen or a trap
would be sprung and it would cause your opponets(or you!) to spin
out. He says that the bear who comes in first gets a coveted Gold
Cup, as for the gunners...."Well, we'll come up with something", he
says.

When you reach the boarding area, you would be asked which of the
tracks you would want to be in(Though if the ride is really packed
this may not be an option). You would then be directed to that
track's boarding station which would look like the garage where you
board one of the nine cars. Each one would have a bear animatronic in the
driver's seat(Enclosed with glass so it dosen't get messed with), and
would have two or three seats in the front or two or three seats in
the back, each with a bee cannon mounted. Each car would be different
for each bear, Henry's would be an old Model-T, Beulah's would look
like a pink Power Wheels car, Zeke's would be a rich Texan's jeep
with a little mini steer's skull as a hood ornament, Big Al's would
be a pickup truck, etc.(The people sitting in the back would be in
the tailgate).

Then you go out of the garage into the track where three old antique
laterns would be used as a starting light. Then the race would
start. Throughout the race, your bear driver would turn and speak with you and the other people in the car, either commeting about the track, or encourage you to try harder if you're lagging behind. Also Buff, Max, and Melvin would also provide commentary for the race(Each car would have there own speeches). For example, if you trigger a trap too early and you get caught in it with Big Al, Buff would say,"There will be a great big puddle of blood on the raceway if you keep that up!" or with Zeke, Buff would say,"Well, choosing these people to gun for him was Zeke's second biggest mistake!"
Max would ask what was the first one, and Buff would answer,"Weddin' Mary."

The people in the first car to reach the end of the ride would indeed get prizesIThey wouldn't be cheap prizes either, they would be Country Bear items that could only be gotten by winning. Perhaps a die-cast model of the car you were in, or a plush of the bear you won with, or maybe a sample Country Bear soundtrack or something^_^.(I know it's unlikely knowing Disney, but hey what the heck).

Any thoughts on this?

Cool Idea! Too bad MPers are not Imagineers and there was no Eisner. :fez: One thing though, I think having to choose between tracks would make it difficult for the CMs to load. But, why not just kinda do a random thing like Indy? Once again, great idea.!:D

Here a few other things:

First off, I'd have Rufus(along with Buff, Max, and Melvin throwing
in their commentary) contacting you from time to time on the car's
radio system. When you first board the cars, Beulah would be
listening and singing to a brief portion of the Beach Boys' "Little
Old Lady from Pasandena"("I'll probably get a ticket now sooner or
later, 'cause I can't keep my paw off the accelarator!"....yes, I
know it wouldn't fit the general country theme, but fits the Beach
Boy loving Sun Bonnets pretty well, so what the heck?) Rufus would
then yell at her over the garage's PA to shut off the music so he can
have the bears test the radios before rolling out of the garage.

During the race, Rufus would buzz in from time-to-time giving you
information on the current conditions of the track. Sometimes
something crazy or unexpected would happen on the Big Thunder Town or
Sunset Canyon tracks. Along with worrying about the riders, you'd
also have to worry about these things too! For example, on the Big
Thunder, the town would be a "ghost town". Like you enter the town,
and the route signs Rufus has placed have been messed around by
ghosts before you get there. This causes the bears to go off Rufus'
planned course route, and Rufus buzzes them in to warn them about
that. The bears have no time to react as they reliaze that they(and
you) are about to crash into an old saloon(A hazard includes
chandeliers that can be shot down almost on top the cars....they
wouldn't really of course, they'd stop right before they hit the car,
but they send out a signal to a sensor on top of the cars that makes
them stop and spin out. There would be other hazards similar to this
as well). Then the cars would make it out of the saloon by crashing
through one of its walls, but end up in an abandoned hotel which is
slightly dark(the windows are boarded up). Then, a few ghosts(using a
bit of the HM's effects) would appear.

RUFUS: Ghosts!?! Unbelivable!

BUFF: Well, you know what they say...

BUFF, MAX, AND MELVIN: Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize!

RUFUS: Boys, boys, boys! There's no time to start that now! Well,
this explains how that sign got changed....try to get out of there,
fast!

YOUR BEAR:(Each would ask "How?" in a slightly different fashion.
Like Henry would say, "And how pray tell do I do that?")

RUFUS: Through the same method that got you in there!

Of course, your bear eventually takes Rufus' advice and crashes his
or her way out of the hotel, and you would shortly leave town(But not
after busting through a bank and jailhouse). Then, you would end up
going on Big Thunder Ranch, which would feature a bull locked up in a
pen on the side of the road. Shooting a target on the pen would let
the bull "loose"(He couldn't leave the edge of the track of course,
but he'd let out a signal to the sensors on any of the cars that pass
by it while it's loose to spin out). At the end of the course, the
people coming in first could even have a chance to spot Minnie Moo!

BTW, Beulah and Big Al's ride tracks would be the closest to the edge
of the road, so they would have addiontal hazards to worry about that
come from the edge of the tracks, either triggered by someone
shooting them(They have a better chance of getting hit by the bull,
etc.), or happning automatically. However, Beulah and Big Al would
also have the advantage of having brief shortcuts, by shooting a
certain target. That would signal a track switcher so Beulah or Al
could take the shortcut. The car would also speed up a little bit.
For example, when you reach the changed sign post, if the people in
Beulah's car shoot the sign(The target hidden so you'd have to know
exactly where to shoot), they would go on a straightaway Rufus'
planned route and get a speed boost. However, Beulah would go too
fast, discovers she can't make a sudden turn properly, and ends up
crashing into the later part of the saloon near the enterance to the
hotel.

I'm going to try thinking up trying to have little hidden paths for
the other bears toom but for now, it's easier making ones for Beulah
and Big Al because it would be easier to switch the tracks on the
edges of them.

I'll return with information about the other two tracks later. See you then!
