I recently read information regarding the cast blast party which just took place. Marty Sklar did not confirm anything in particular but stated that there were several plans for attractions on Disneyland's 50th in 2005. I find this unbelievable and feel it may be a way to put us off and feed our dreams of hoping for another E-ticket ride. In fact, Animal Kingdom officially announced a new rollercoaster for 2006. Wouldn't you think Disneyland could announce a new attraction for 2005 if it is actually in the works? I think we all may be in for a disappointing 50th. I hope I'm wrong.

Well, there isn't enough time to build an e-ticket ride for the 50th, that's already a given. As far as the other plans, it's possible that the reason (and I'm an optimist) that they didn't disclose anything is that they may be reworking everything Cynthia had proposed to less than impressed new President Jay. My guess is that nothing was solid enough to show yet and Jay didn't show up to the Cast Blast because he knew they were going to be dancing around the topic and he didn't want the first CM big exposure he had assosiated with something he had little to do with. Like "you guys made your beds, now you can lay in them".

I have hopes, that because they didn't give any details, that it's because they are working on something better. I only hope it's good enough.

I wouldn't say they don't have time. It won't be something that is really large in size, but I'm sure they could build something such as Alien Encounter. I personall think it will take 'till 2006 for Everest because they don't want to pay for the man power required to build something so fast. But, if it turns out to be a dissapointing 50th I will be very mad.

Maybe they will bring back some of our closed favorites, such as Subs, PeopleMover, CircleVision and Rocket Jets - - or restore Tomorrowland in general. That sort of thing could easily be done on a timeline that fits, but might be a project they want to surprise people with.

They might as well. From what i've heard Tomorrowland is empty and the new Discoveryland theme doesn't work. So why would they leave open an empty, badly redone Tomorrowland. So it costs money, big deal they would probably make more by closing it all now and reopening it in 2005 with really good, new, original attractions.

This is what I dont understand. Why dont they just close all of tomorrowland except star tours and start construction and redo tomorrowland with more money involved this time. It would make a great present for fans if tomorrowland opened with new space mountain, subs, circle vision redo, new attraction for the peoplemover track, and new paint.

They are planning the, what is this - the 4th(?) New Tomorrowland for 2008.

Even if construction walls were to go up tomorrow, they would not be able to get a new TLand done by 2005, a mere two years from now. Design work is nowhere near the start-of-construction level. And, let's face it, they just do not put in the necessary effort and manpower required to build things expediently.

Does it really take 2 years to build Tower of Terror? Does it really take 13 months to rebuild the Caroussel? With enough money and will, these projects could be completed in one-quarter the time.

So resign yourself to 2008. After all, we want the glorious '98 Tomorrowland to be around for at least a decade, don't we?

(But don't be too suprised if we don't get "Tomorrowland" at all, as that concept is phased out in favor of the cheap cop-out "Discoveryland.")

That's for sure. It took 1 year to build all of DL in '55. Sure, the technology going in was simplier, but how complicated is the caroussel (which predated DL in the first place)? It's the red tape I tell ya! In order to do anything on that caroussel the amount of paper work probably was double needed to build DL.

Here was I think they need to do. I keep hearing about how people aren't going to Disney parks because they are afraid of terrorism. Well, first the terrorists have won if that's your reason. Two, invest in the parks. Of course numbers are going to slide when quality in attractions is dropping. Disney needs to stop pushing all this money into these crappy animated movies that probably have Walt turning in his cryo chamber. Make Disney animated movies somehting that don't get pumped out, but something special with maybe one a year. Then take all that extra money to invest in quality movies, and attractions. Disney's numbers would return if the invested in the man power to design and quickly build an outstanding attraction. According to most Disney staff noting is impossible, so they need to stop making it impossible for us to get a good attraction. I love Disney, but Eisner needs to wake up and realise that things cost money. Walt took from his retirement fund to build Disneyland. Take a risk and spend some money, do somehting original, do something Disney.

P.S. I know Walt wasn't frozen. And he was right, he said Roy wanted money, and so has everybody else after Walt.

So so true. The time for design/budget/drawings of any attraction today, as opposed to 1955, puts almost anything new for the 50th out of reach at this point.

I'm just hoping for everything neat and pretty by the 50th.

Oh, and some cool, park specific (NOT PINS) merchandise.

If we're not going to get any new attractions (a slightly modified Space Mountain is all that we can hope for, I think) I at least hope they really do make the new 50th parade a good one. (and not like the 45th Parade of Stars or the snowglobe thing in WDW)They really should try to come up with a nighttime parade that rivals the experience that MSEP used to be. The key word is "rivals," it doesn't have to be a retread of the tired MSEP theme. But it should be like what MSEP used to do in that it makes you leave the park at night feeling great. If they were really nice they would make it blow everyone away like Fantasmic does.

I also think if they are going to play up the nostalgia aspect they should bring back the Lion King Celebration for the daytime parade... its still the most popular Disney movie ever! And Disneyland needs two different parades, in the summer at least.

With more than two years to go before the actual anniversary, I really don't think its too much to ask for these rather limited efforts!

What really bother's me about the 50th isn't so much that there's no major attraction planned - but future plans in general seem so non-existant.

I remember going to DL in the 60s & 70's and always stopping in at the Disney Showcase to see what new ideas were on the imagineers' drawing boards. For me this was a huge source of excitement which really illustrated that "Dsineyland would never be finished."

Just watching the 10th Anniversay special you see imagineers showing off different effects, several of which never got built. Heck, the wall maps in the day showed lands that never were built - but you know they were considered, that people were letting their imaginations go wild, daring to be creative.

The current Disney approach of having every little attraction or enhancement a super-trade-secret makes it seem that they just run out of ideas and have no imagination left.

My hope is they prove me wrong in 2005.

All I know is that all my friends in Entertainment seem to be swamped. I fear all we're going to get is a promotional campaign. When will Disney learn that people buy THINGS, not HYPE?

Ok Iv been sniffing around and chatting with CM's lately...

First about our 50th aniv. parade
--------------------------------------------------------------
First to the rather judgemental quote about the 45th aniv. parade... I personally think it is an excelent parade but it has jsut been around a little tooooo long, but still a good parade none the less.
Now about the 50th. Im sure many of you will be disgusted to hear (especially the ones that wern't fond of the walt's 100th parade in WDW) that that is exactly what we are getting... The main theme of the parade will be the snowglobes. (were not even talking relicas of them, the exact snowglobes used in the WDW parade just recycled) Im sure there will be a few floats added but the main jist will be the snowglobe theme.

2nd about new and returning attractions
------------------------------------------------------------
I really dont know why everyone is so hyped up and disapointed that we are not getting a brand new attraction for the 50th... Isnt an aniversary suposed to represent the history and legacy of somthing... not somthing brand new.

*SPACE MOUNTAIN- :D the new version of this should be awsome. Iv been told that a loop is in the works to be installed in the new ride, with maybe an outdoor loading station and much better space effects.

*PEOPLE MOVER- Sorry all but this thang is gone for good. Iv been told that that isnt even a posibility to bring back nor would they want too.

*SUBS-   Another big snooze BUT good news for fans of the ride. Iv been told multiple times that this is almost a done deal that it will return for the 50th

*CIRCLE VISION-:D :) :D :) Very pleased to say we have another Slam dunk! This is set to return for the 50th also due to the fact that the screens are still intact in the waiting area for the ill faited Rocket rods (oh by the way those will never be back if anyone was wondering) :(

*UN-NAMED "ATTRACTION"- although my title tells you absolutely nothing and half of the people reading it may not concider it an "attraction". But I love the idea of them putting together old momentos and ride parts and pieces of history into a big walk through exibit... This would be a key exibit to put in the area that the NASA exibit occupies now. (The nasa exibit is set to leave at the close of this year :D due to the fact that NASA's contract is up and Disney is not offering to renew it!!!)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
well enough from me... just a final thought... give the people at disney a break... the 50th will be somthing to remember if WE the people that love Disneyland make it somthing to remember... The memories that we all have are worth more then any new attraction that Disney could Imagineer or build.:)

Sure. I remember all kinds of stuff that has happened at the park over the last 40 years. Remembering the good is plesant, wonderful, sometimes elating. Remembering the not so good and downright bad is horrifying.

From what has been said so far, good memories are unlikely to be created at DL's 50th. Very sad, but probably true.

From what I hear lately, Snowglobes Parade is in, Loop and Outside Launch Space Mountain is out.

Let me confess something here though - - I don't think it will take all that much to make a really good 50th annivesary celebration.

I base that opinion on the 30th anniversay doin's 18 years ago. They were fairly mild, but made for the best post-Walt year in the Park's history (IMO).

They had that great gimmick, the Gift-Giver Extraordinaire to create excitement about the possibility of winning a prize every time you visited the Park. All it cost them was 350 cars and about a million plush toys. Chickenfeed to Disney.

They spruced up the park real nice and featured a return of classic park-wide entertainment. Mermaids in the Submarine Lagoon, Swiss Climbers on the Matterhorn, Barbershop Quartets on Main Street, Gunflighters in Frontierland. The Electrical Parade was still running at night, but I could not even tell you what the daytime parade was - it was that insignificant. And the fireworks were your basic Fantasy in the Sky. There were no new attractions. And yet, it was a great celebratory year.

Best of all, and most important (to me at least) for my hopes about the upcoming 50th, they threw the most phenomenal birthday bash on July 17. Kept the park open for 24 hours and I saw some of the most amazing sights my eyes have ever witnessed during those 24 hours.

Technology having advanced somewhat in the intervening 20 years, I will expect something even better on 7/17/05. And if they do indeed improve on the 30th birthday for just that one day, I will be completely satisfied with Disneyland's 50th Year.

This parade is just loose assortment of Disney characters running down Main Street. Nothing special about it. If they wanted this to be a good anniversary parade, they should've at least put the characters in chronological order. Rehashing old parade floats is lazy and shows lack of creativity and interest.

It's supposed to be a celebration of not just the past and present, but the future as well. What do we have to look forward to, to keep coming to Disneyland ? New pin releases? PLEASE !

*SPACE MOUNTAIN- :D the new version of this should be awsome. Iv been told that a loop is in the works to be installed in the new ride, with maybe an outdoor loading station and much better space effects.
There will not be a loop. We're getting the same track.

*PEOPLE MOVER- Sorry all but this thang is gone for good. Iv been told that that isnt even a posibility to bring back nor would they want too.
PeopleMover is being considered for Tomorrowland '08, however, they may use the WDW MK name. Believe it or not, it's STILL the #1 requested closed attraction. It's not dead yet.

*SUBS-   Another big snooze BUT good news for fans of the ride. Iv been told multiple times that this is almost a done deal that it will return for the 50th.
Unless the 50th starts on December 4, 2003, ...uh...no.

Late Winter/ Early Spring 2004. Wonders Of China was refilmed for Disneyland specifically recently.

There IS an exhibit coming for the 50th but where it ends up in Tomorrowland is anyone's guess.

If I want to "remember" or look back on fond memories, I have pictures and tapes to look at here @ home. How about building some NEW memories instead ? If it weren't for the Imagineers building attractions, there wouldn't BE any fond Disneyland memories in the first place. Let's keep things going Disney ! A new ride soon please !

It really is ridiculous how long it takes them to build attractions. In Las Vegas huge casino resorts, with 4,000 rooms, malls, rides and everything under the sun are built in less time than an E ticket. They could work three rotating crews 24-7 if they wanted to get something built in time for the 50th.

I never understood this either.
It took less time to build Disneyland that it's taking to build the Tower Of Terror in DCA.
I don't get it.

We've had many confirmations that the track is the same, including from Imagineering, even though there is a resurfacing rumour that the loop may be in, it isn't.
Anyways, in response to your plea for us not to be disappointed about the 50th, we're not... yet. Whatever happens on the 50th will determine our feelings for it. However, many of the Disneyland faithful feel that we deserve a spectacular celebration...
We're waiting to be surprised.

I would be extremely irritated by this.

Disneyland is Walt's specific and historic park. Those five original themes should always be maintained. I get really agitated by Imagineers who want to put their own stink onto the classics. Save it for China, people...

>>Late Winter/ Early Spring 2004. Wonders Of China was refilmed for Disneyland specifically recently.<<

Actually, Wonders of China was refilmed for EPCOT's China Pavillion, specifically - - But I'd certainly welcome it at DL!
